    The hardest one for me to practice is probably the round house kick.

    • @EffectiveMartialArts
      @EffectiveMartialArts  5 років тому +14

      Indeed. The key is to send your body and hips ahead first, and let your leg whip across while being limp, to deliver the most power through the principle of inertia and dead weight. Practice well! - Patrick

      as a bodan in taekwondo (1 belt before black) ive noticed this kick is best when u turn with the waist, this gives more force, if u become good with this, try jumping up with the other and roundhouse with ur main foot, this is only good when the opponent is dazed, and remember, this jump kick aims for the skill/temples of the head.

    Roundhouse to the ribs can be caught easily so for roundhouse i dont really kicks anywhere above the waist. However sidekicking the kneecap is extremely effective, and if youre good enough sidekick to the chest or stomach

      +Effective Martial Arts Wouldn`t the front push kick be better to use to the groin? I wasn`t told to spin round if I missed the roundhouse kick but I guess your way was more correct because that`s why it`s called a roundhouse kick right? Also in my Shaolin class in the late 80`s I was taught to throw the side kick from my rear leg was this incorrect and why would it be less effective? I saw a vid saying that Bruce Lee invented the lead leg kicking stlye do you know if this is correct because I don`t know what to make of Lee as a legit martial artist on some level?!

    • @EffectiveMartialArts
      @EffectiveMartialArts  6 років тому +1

      Good question, Mark Ant. Front push kick can be delivered to the groin, although you might hit the pubic bone instead of the actual groin, which would make it less devastating. Roundhouse kick can be thrown without the complete 360, but you still have to go through the target to create power. Following through is simply a way to recover off a powerful roundhouse that misses the target. Side kick can be thrown with the back leg, although in my experience I find it takes a bit too long, and it is easy to see coming, since you have to switch your hips all the way. I prefer to throw a turning side kick if I am going to hit with the back leg. Some people with great hip mobility and agility can pull it off though, it is not wrong, as long as it works!
      Hope this helps :)

      +Effective Martial Arts Thanks, I got laughed at in my school in 1986 for displaying rear leg side kicks and they said my other kicks just looked normal also I lost in a tournament if I`d known I could use lead leg kicks I might have got a few more in, my instructors were far too vague and I said this before somewhere but I found out years later that my main instructor was arrested for sexauly abusing his 2 sons! Maybe that`s why his teacher was quite shoddy!

    I usually go inward with a side kick close to the stomach and go for the ribs or the kidney but I'll use the low one too. that helps me change target. I'm guessing your using it in thier legs? also it helps if they are taller (which is rare but could happen)

    If you had to kick to break the glass on a fire alarm pull station would you do a kick back and up or a straight up kick? Whats the benefit of kicking back and up vs straight up?

    • @EffectiveMartialArts
      @EffectiveMartialArts  5 років тому +1

      When you pull back your kick, you are increasing the potential energy of your technique. There are times, however, when speed is more important than power, in which case you would go faster to your target. Depends on the situation. We like to help students develop maximal power first through proper body mechanics, and then we can adapt depending on the application. Hope this helps. - Patrick

    The Roundhouse is my favorite I like aiming for the liver. They'll act tough like they can take it then pass out shortly after. I find it a good spot to kick for self defense.

    I understand that shit happens. I'm partly learning this because of that. I want to be able to defend myself and others when necessary. But I'm mostly learning this because i need a hobby and this is fun lol. I'm exercising and eating healthy and now this. I'm hopefully going to get professional lessons but until i get a job this will do.

    What part of the foot should I be trying to use to contact the target? I've heard so many different ideas where the impact should be absorbed by the foot. What part of your foot is taking the brunt of the kick from your POV as the kicker.
    When I kick, it hurts my foot horribly. Help?

    • @EffectiveMartialArts
      @EffectiveMartialArts  Рік тому

      That depends on the technique. Typically, a side kick will connect with the heel (sometimes the blade of the foot), a front kick with the ball of the foot (although also possible with the heel), and a round kick with the laces or bottom part of the shin. This can vary as well based on the practitioner and the context. If you feel pain when kicking, I would recommend consulting a health professional in person, and please refrain from doing any more kicking until you get a proper diagnosis. Get well soon!

    • @EffectiveMartialArts
      @EffectiveMartialArts  4 роки тому

      Could be a few different things. You might need a better warm-up (ua-cam.com/video/EncNo7EsqCU/v-deo.html), better stretching after your training (ua-cam.com/video/avpLW897fm4/v-deo.html), or you might just be doing too much, and need to train lighter. In any case, I would suggest you scale down until you don’t feel sore the next day, and then take it up prpgressively from there. By the way, also check out version 2.0 of this video, with many more tips and tricks!

    1:16 Plexus? did you mean to say Xiphoid Process? One of the 3 parts of the sternum, the area you were pointing to. A plexus refers to a network of nerves or vessels in the body. They communicate to the brain messages regarding pressure, temperature, and pain.
