  • In this video I go over pay in the National Guard. I discuss drill pay, annual training pay, and pay at Basic Combat Training and Advanced Individual Training. Also, I explain BAH or Basic Allowance for Housing that soldiers who are married or have dependents receive.

      This is what I would recommend. Save as much as you can during BCT/AIT and go to college online, take courses that will help you with your UA-cam channel that are easy, so you can get the extra GI Bill money. I don’t know what your monthly expenses are so I can’t say for sure if you can survive off the monies you get from the Guard. If you save a reasonable amount from BCT/AIT, that alone will get you by for awhile. Then your drill pay will obviously help as well.

      My best advice for the test with knowing you only having a day beforehand: if you don’t know an answer, try to eliminate any answers possible that you know mathematically don’t work or aren’t close to what you came up with. Get a good night sleep tonight, maybe drink a little extra water so you’re hydrated for the test. Normally your instinct is right when answering questions so try not to second guess yourself. Use all the allotted time you have for each section and if you have time leftover, you could go back to the questions you struggled with. Don’t spend too much time on one question but absolutely DO NOT leave any questions blank/unanswered.

      I’m glad this video was helpful, I’ve probably got others that may be useful for you as well! So your pay is determined by your rank, not your job. Unless you have a degree or ROTC credits, you will likely come in as an E1. So if you watch that video and take note of what an E1 makes, that’s what you will make. Are you married or have children? • @SFCBEITZ
      @SFCBEITZ  3 роки тому +2

      Thanks brother, I appreciate you subscribing! Also, I can definitely answer your question with 100% accuracy. You can be a MP in the Army National Guard, then transition to a police officer on the civilian side or you can do them both simultaneously. When I was a Recruiter I probably enlisted 100 people as Military Police. I actually live a mile from the Military Police armory where I enlisted many of those soldiers. Something I learned quickly was that a lot of the MPs at the armory are civilian police officers as well. Since the National Guard is part time, you’re able to do them both. However, I’d recommend joining the Guard as an MP, going to Basic Training and then AIT (for MP 31B), getting some experience under your belt, then applying to become a police officer. After Basic and AIT, you’ll report to your Military Police unit. There you are likely to find out that a lot of the people you work with are police officers and they might be able to help you get hired on. I hope this helps and answers your question. Feel free to ask any other questions you have! Also, know that the Army Reserves and Army National Guard are different. I’d recommend joining the Army National Guard as there’s likely way more MP opportunities. I don’t even think there’s any MP positions in the Reserves in my state, so check the Army National Guard first!

      Thanks fam. You can potentially get BAH without dependents if you have a lease and bills (electric, gas, sewage, etc) in your name. Also, to earn more you could volunteer to work full time for your unit on temporary orders. You would need to talk to your Readiness NCO about doing this...but you need to be Jonny on the Spot during drills for your unit to consider giving you full time orders because those opportunities. It's not guaranteed that you'll get these orders, especially right away. If you stay consistently asking every drill, it will show the unit you're serious about it though. • @SFCBEITZ
      @SFCBEITZ  3 роки тому

      Thanks for the questions - I’ve been getting questions similar to this a lot. I’m going to make a video on this topic but I’ll still answer you here. Yes, you can work for the Guard beyond just drill weekends and annual training. However, it’s not as simple as just volunteering and getting to do it. You have to volunteer and then orders have to be produced putting you on the additional work duties. They will only do that under special circumstances...but there’s a lot of special circumstances that come up. Whether that’s security for the Presidential Inauguration, being a logistical assistant, being a Recruiter assistant, or some other form of special work or operational support. Any time you are on orders for 30 days or more, you receive BAH. So, you won’t receive BAH for drill weekends because that’s typically only 2 days. However, there is a way to get BAH only working two days but it’s going to be hard to make it understandable outside of making a video. When you join the Guard, you get the GI Bill. If you work on full time orders for 180 days or more, you’re normal GI Bill is changed to the Post 9/11 GI Bill. If you have the Post 9/11 GI Bill and go to college full time, you’ll collect BAH and only work two days a month. I haven’t explained that in any of my videos yet because I know it’s complicated to understand.

    2 questions.
    With BHA be direct deposited to us along with our pay while at basic and AIT? (or will it go to whoever we pay our rent/mortgage to?)
    After basic and ait, as full time, what hours or when will I work/drill?

    • @SFCBEITZ
      @SFCBEITZ  2 роки тому +1

      That’s a really good question about BAH that I haven’t mentioned before! BAH gets directly deposited into your account along with your paycheck. They both are deposited together as one. On your Leave Earnings Statement (LES - which is like a paycheck stub) it’ll show your Base Pay, BAH, and whatever additional pays separately, so you can see how much each item was, but they’ll be added together and deposited into your account as one. I hope that helps and makes sense.
      After returning from BCT/AIT, you will return to the Recruit Sustainment Program for one last drill. At that drill a new representative from your new unit will come to your battle handoff ceremony. That’s where you’re transitioning out of the Recruit Sustainment Program into your actual unit/duty station. That representative will provide you a drill schedule that will give you your training dates for the whole year. You will work at minimum, 1 weekend a month, every month, and a 2 week duration once a year (normally in the summer time - it’s called annual training). If you have more questions or confused, just let me know!

    • @SFCBEITZ
      @SFCBEITZ  2 роки тому +1

      So to clarify, you will receive your BAH into your bank account. Which is great because - let’s say your BAH is $1,200 but your rent is only $750. Whatever is left, you pocket that money…know one can see how you spend your money. All of your monies get deposited into your account and you use the money however you deem fit. I probably have a lot of other videos on my channel that’ll be helpful to you. Go to my videos and start scrolling down! Even some of the ones from 5-6 years ago are still relevant!

      @@SFCBEITZ what does annual training mean

    • @SFCBEITZ
      @SFCBEITZ  2 роки тому

      Every year as a Guard soldier, you do annual training. It’s approximately 2 weeks long, and you’re doing your specific job and working with your battle buddies; you’re training to ensure proficiency amongst you and your comrades; this training could be in your state, it could be in Alaska, Korea, Europe, or anywhere in the world. They determine where your training will be using a lot of different factors like; your MOS, most relevant training environments, opportunities available at that time, etc. So again, Annual Training, also know as “AT”, is approximately 2 weeks of training every year conducted so that you have more time doing your job with your comrades than just your normal 2 days a month. Does that make sense?

      I’m not sure if I’m understanding your question correctly brother. In the Guard, you’ll get BAH during BCT, AIT, and any time you are on orders 30 days or longer. Orders basically means, activated to work. When you are drilling one weekend a month, you will not get BAH. When you do your two weeks of Annual Training, you’ll receive a partial BAH. Does that clarify? If not let me know brother and I can break it down another way. There is a way to get BAH while only working two days a month drilling but that’s a very complicated process that I don’t want to confuse anyone with. I will make a video about it at a later date!

      Yes, I recently posted a video after this video called, "Maximizing Pay - National Guard". I elaborate on making more money in that video! You can volunteer to work more than just your two days a month. The Guard has full time positions called, Active Guard Reserve (AGR). These positions are Active Duty positions in the National Guard where you work full time just like you would in the Regular Army. The Guard also has other opportunities to work for extended periods of time know as Active Duty Special Work (ADSW) or Active Duty Operational Support (ADOS). The Guard puts you on full time orders to complete special missions or special projects.

Meaning, will I be able to secure a job with NG that pays the same Basic training salary? Thanks

    • @SFCBEITZ
      @SFCBEITZ  Рік тому +4

      No problem! That's what I am here for!
      So, what most people do is, work for the National Guard one weekend a month, and then work a civilian job. That is what I would recommend, the National Guard will not prevent you from having a full time civilian job. Matter of fact, in your state, you will most likely have a representative who works for the Guard, and their job is to help Guard soldiers get a good job on the civilian side. When you do get a civilian job, you will want to provide them your National Guard schedule (your National Guard schedule will be for a whole year, so you will know the dates of your training for the whole year) and according to federal law (USERRA), your job must allow you to attend your military training without you being penalized. I could get really deep into this topic and maybe I should make a video on it. Let's say you deploy with the National Guard for a year. Your civilian job must keep your position for you to return to after the deployment, and if you would have received a promotion during that time, they would be required to promote you, and give you a pay raise, if that came with the promotion. Some jobs will even pay you while you are away at training or deployed. We call it double dipping, where you are getting paid by the National Guard and your civilian job. If you want to know more about the federal law I mentioned, Google "USERRA" and read about it. It's a great federal law for soldiers.
      Now, if you want to work for the National Guard full time, that's a possibility, but there is a process to getting that opportunity. You must earn it. I'm actually making a video about full time National Guard right now. I just took a break to respond to some comments.
      Did I answer you question?

      What’s BMT? Do you mean BCT? The Guard and your school will work together well. Almost all schools understand soldiers have unique schedules and they work with the soldiers for two main reasons. 1. Soldiers have tuition assistance and other educational benefits so they know will get paid. 2. Most schools like the idea of having soldiers in their school because of patriotism and soldiers refer other soldiers = more money for them lol but over the years I’ve noticed more and more schools have become military friendly. I’ve sat down with many military liaisons at colleges and all have been willing to work with soldiers and their military schedules. I hope that helps! Just maintain good communication with your school and the military.

    • @SFCBEITZ

      Pay is the same, it’s based on rank, how much time you have in service, and how often you work…however, you work full time in the Regular Army and part time in the National Guard…so you get paid more in the Regular Army cus you’re working every day and National Guard you’re only working two days. When you go to basic training while in the National Guard, your pay is the same as Active Duty because you’re on Active Duty.

      If you go to the National Guard website, click the top right corner drop down, scroll down to benefits, and click on Guard Pay, that will give you the exact amount you will receive without BAH. You will have to select if you are enlisted or an officer, then click continue. Then enter your rank and how many years of service you have. I’ve linked the reference Im using below. Active Duty pay for an E3 with one year or less of service will make $2,043 per month. The only way you’d make 4k a month is if BAH was included and BAH was at least $1,957 per month.

    • @SFCBEITZ

      Combat MOS’s will always need their support elements so I would say it’s very unlikely. One of our biggest strengths is how our military is set up with different MOS branches which allows us to operate tactfully and strategically; if we start taking soldiers out of those branches and putting them on the front lines, we will lose our biggest strength. Also, we would be putting soldiers not trained for fighting in a bad situation, and I just can’t foresee that happening either.

      The regulation says that you must enlist before 35th birthday…however, you could reach out to your local recruiter and ask if they’re doing “age waivers”. I’ve seen people enlist up to the age of 42 with age waivers. Every once in awhile these waivers are authorized. I’d reach out to a recruiter asap because recruiting numbers are low right now so the Army/National Guard have been making a lot of exceptions to policy.

    • @SFCBEITZ
      @SFCBEITZ  3 роки тому

      @@tomaszwida Yes, being on active duty would be Basic Training, Advanced Training, being activated for a natural disaster, crowd control, security for the presidential inauguration, deploying overseas, a training school, etc. Yes, if you're only activated for a week, you will get paid for that week. In the National Guard you won't be sitting on a base, you will only be on duty 2 days a month (the rest of the month you'll be at home or doing whatever you want to do), 2 weeks of annual training, and again, anytime you are activated for one of the above scenarios I mentioned. You only get a basic housing allowance when you are activated for full time duty. Now, if you are interested in full time military, you could join the Army and you will get paid full time and receive a basic housing allowance but that a whole different situation.
