    Don't be sad that it's over. Smile that it happened at all. The dice was rolled and what we got was the Vanilla game, it was as close as would be acceptable today, even laggy servers. However it came with a retail playerbase, streamers with their zoomer fans, a boomer pay to win mindset and addons for everything on day 1. The world has changed, the game has been solved, we all knew what to expect before it arrived, there was nothing new. Except the oldschool gameplay, something that has been forgotten about so much, from the RPG mechanics, insane grinds and forced socialisation, to some they are amazing good old days and others they are ancient relics of the past. But atleast we got to experience it one last time in an official setting, a moment that may never be recreated again by the WoW playerbase, 15 years after it all started.

    I started classic hoping i would be able to once again be part of a great guild that adds ppl to your afk friends list aswell as ingame. And i wasnt disapointed! Everyone i play with now is also 14ish years older than the friends i gained during vanilla. We are "old" but the atmosphere is as wholesome as it was last time. We even have the class clown, the moody raidleader and most other personalities represented again, even though almost none are the same ppl from back in the day. Classic has been all that i hoped it would be. One of my officer friends dressed up as santa for my kids yesterday. First time i see the guy IRL :).

    The biggest thing I can say about Classic is that it reminded me why WoW is my favorite game of all time, after numerous mediocre/bad expacs, I had started to forget why I ever liked the game to begin with. Classic's game design, class design, community, zones and quests and dungeons and raids, the challenge of leveling the first time and getting your regular and epic mounts, your first purple, it all really revitalized WoW for me and made me remember why I've been playing it all these years.

      @@stanisawgacki4236 I think class design certainly got a lot better in TBC and WoTLK, but Vanilla's class flavor, unique class quests, talent trees, stat distributions all are such a breath of fresh air and deep dive back into RPG mechanics after retail where everything was watered down and homogenized. As for game design, vanilla's emphasis on difficulty while leveling, community and group based content, consumables, buffs, unique mechanics like the hunter's dead zone or pet system, professions mattering a lot, all just examples of things where vanilla really shines. Sure the world buff meta is tedious and i'm glad it got toned down in TBC, but when was the last time you gave a crap about a buff in modern wow?

    The people shitting on Classic difficulty are the same ones who barely ever clear anything than LFR and normal raids in retail. Classic is not difficult in the sense of mechanics, but rather having a core raid team of 40 people show up every single week, consume out of their asshole and grab all necessary buffs. The difficulty in Classic is the fact that it takes a huge amount of people to be as passionate about the game as yourself, show up and know what to do and actually consume. This wasn't the case for previous tier raids and a lot of people have been carried all the way through to Naxxramas, that is why you see guilds disbanding all over the place right now too.
    In retail the raid mechanics are harder (for heroic raids+), but you don't have to do anything else than just be there with 20 other people and know the tactics. That's about all the effort you have to put in. As long as you know the mechanics, you will clear the content. I'd love to see a retail andy try to grab 39 other people for a Naxx raid, attune to Naxx, have to farm enough consumables for their entire 40 man raid, grab world buffs, and know every single mechanic, e.g. making sure to have 8 fucking tanks and offtanks for a specific boss and actually having EVERYONE use consumables on a lot of fights and clear it in the first week. It won't happen, because retail andys are not gonna put in so much effort into clearing content because they're used to just leaving when things don't go well and just re-queueing because their actions have 0 consequence. That's the difference. Classic is difficult in a entirely different way.

    • @cattysplat
      @cattysplat 3 роки тому +1

      Classic difficulty is preparation, which means playing the game outside of raid time, farming the world itself to make those consumes and battling others for those resources. It also means social organisation, lacking the easy mode tools of retail means guilds have to go the extra mile to recruit, retain and keep happy 40+ raiders every week, which only became more difficult the more raids were added, doing every raid is a big time commitment but is absolutely necessary in Classic due to linear raid progression and no easy catchup gear/modes. Unfortunately for many they instead take the retail mindset, just raid logging, buying boosts and buy gold from botters instead, causing the massive inflation of gold and bots started taking over the economy and murdering the levelling experience for those who didn't boost. I wish people respected the game more but seeing how ubiquitous boosting was it is clear you could never bring Vanilla WoW back, it's Boomercraft today with players spending plenty of real life money to throw at botters/boosters to make the game easy instead of playing the damn game.

    So I started with classic when I decided like a year ago to play wow .... and I bought shadow lands for Christmas and .... it feels very wrong
    I feel to op versus mobs and I can very easily pull 4 mobs at a time even at lvl 3/4 ... the items are at time useless and I played for a whole day without any item on and It was almost no difference ( I'm lvl 20 so IDK if it will switch later on ) the talent tree is gone :( the trainers have no point since you learn skills at lvl up and it makes no sense ,things like leather-working or skinning feel useless and don't really give me any reason to actually do them ( for now ) .... yes classic is at times unforgiving but it's so rewarding ... Launch was fantastic and the leveling experience was a blast (warrior at launch, so I had the worst experience). I thoroughly enjoyed raiding, I joined a Guild that wasn't too serious but still challenged the top spot on my realm (we had the fastest cleared BWL time on our server at launch). I enjoyed raiding up until BWL, when the age of the game really started to show. I quit playing entirely not long after BWL, but I feel I got my full worth out of the game up until that point. I was one of the first to hit 60 on my server, one of the first Blacksmiths to complete their Armoursmithing quest lines, one of the first to complete Molten Core and I fought in Hillsbrad when World Pvp first released. I tanked dungeons and raids, I saved our Guild more times than I can count from wiping on Ragnaros and Netharion (might have made a typo) and I loved every second of tanking. I was reliable and thorough in my job, and if I might toot my own horn I was a bloody great tank on my server.
    I achieved what I set out to achieve on a game that I played when I was a child (I played vanilla, after the Gates had opened but before TBC launched) and I had so much fun.
    I really hope the next step is Classic TBC, as TBC was when I was old enough to really flourish at PC Games independently, and I have so many beautiful memories.
    I hope everyone has a lovely Christmas, and I hope you all have a wonderful new year. Fingers crossed we're done away with this Corona Virus by early next year.

      I leveled a warrior and it was the most fun I had despite the roadblocks I came across. I levelled a warrior alone before so I knew what to expect.. and avoided it. We started as a group of 5 totally random guys, lost our priest around lvl 20. Managed to find a permanent replacement soon after. Well, that is until lvl 45 when we lost our shaman because he didn't like Classic all that much and our group kinda crumbled at that time because people's time off was running out and we had to return to our actual lives. Three of us still kept tight and reached 60 around the same time. We got out pre-bis together but went our seperate ways when it came to guilds and raiding. I never really cared about raiding in WoW but was spoken into becoming a class leader and, well, that was absolutely not fun. First month or two was okay when it came to raiding - we killed Rag week 3, but soon I started fearing logging on and having to deal with these people. Harder and harder rules were being implemennted (must have all pre-bis, most of the buffs, these WBs, all enchants, etc) which I didn't agree with and had to be the one to enforce for 20 warriors. Tried looking for another guild to go but it seems like I have stumbled upon the hardcore server (Progress was on our realm). One day I just said bye and never logged back in again. This was before BWL came out.
      At it's best it was the most fun I've ever had, at it's worst it felt like a soul-crushing job.

Something about the fights and duration of the raid felt gross in addition to the "mechanics" at times felt very unfun to deal with. Once we got to a point of doing AQ, BWL, and MC binding runs in a single night much of the fun was sucked out. I could tell that AQ had an adverse effect on a lot of the raiders as well and people were noticably more irate than usual as opposed to the fun fast clearing of BWL or the meme-filled stupor of MC. BWL is still by far my favourite raid and I truly believe I could raid that all the time and never get bored.

Each month I would think I'm almost ready to dive back in, but honestly the story lines have lost me, I think. @blighticus 3 роки тому +1

      @Andrew Stevenson Maybe because LFR isn't the end-game content, but MC was? LFR is tourist mode made for people to simply see the content if they have no time or means to do so otherwise. The real content is Mythic Raiding. Good luck thinking bypassing tedious levelling means you now are qualified to clear that. Then again, you classic Andies would probably even fail at LFR to begin with.

    • @blighticus
      @blighticus 3 роки тому

      @Andrew Stevenson
      Literally who cares about 'welfare' legendaries. Legendaries have always been a dumb part of the game. You can see it in Classic. Do you really give a shit about seeing some dude pass by with a HoR or TF these days? It only felt great back when the entire game felt like a great unknown. That's the problem with you classic Andies. You care way too much about the color pixels of items rather than what the item represents: a way to enhance gameplay.
      All your points are utterly pathetic. Even Normal mode retail is far far more difficult than anything Classic has to offer. And that is coming from someone who barely even plays retail anymore. There is a massive truckload of content in Retail, yet you think raiding is all there is to do LOL. There's Mythic +, dozens of dungeons, solo content coming out the wazoo, Torghast, dailies, weeklies, world quests, sanctum building, pets, a massive range of battlegrounds, Arenas, flavor content such as transmogs and mount/pet collections. To actually think that Classic is better than retail when it comes to that, when all people do is get world buffs and raidlog is uttterly delusional. There's absolutely nothing to do in Classic.
      You need to get a grip and stop masturbating over the Classic pixels. Scarcity equals value in Classic, that is all. The only reason we remember items is because there were barely any of them. Again, the only thing classic Andies care about is the 'value' of items rather than the challenging and interesting gameplay. Probably cause you were too bad at the game to be able to actually do anything above LFR difficulty.
      There are a shitload of raids worth remembering. Just because YOU don't know them (as you were too bad to progress in them) doesn't mean they don't exist. MC was just one of the first ones, but if that's your idea of an epic raid, then I guess there's not really much left to say. Go do your one-button rotations and pleasure yourself in SW/ORG whispering "retail bad". Comfort yourself in the fact you'll never be good enough, but at least the item that dropped from a 15 year old version of the game had value.

    • @blighticus
      @blighticus 3 роки тому +1

      @Derp Inshmurtz Who said they are a dumb part of mmos? Why are you misrepresenting my quote and putting it quotation marks? That's not at all what I said, so no clue why you're attributing those words to me if not to purposely take my words out of context. And then there's no point to discuss anymore because the goal isn't a discussion, but to "gotcha" me.
      The implementation of legendaries has always been bad in WoW. That's my point. There's no achievement in RNG, I'm sorry. Getting 2x 2% droprate items isn't a testament to your skill, it's simple RNG. Being the one chosen to get the item is the only part where you have influence, and that has 0 to do with the game and everything with the social fabric of guilds.
      Again, that's the very point I'm making. Classic Andies (not saying you are one) are obsessed with the purple pixels and how much value that item supposedly has rather than the gameplay of the GAME itself. They don't care that the vast majority of content is dogshit and poses no difficulty. That's a fine way to play, but to act as if that's objectively superior to complexity and challenge is disingenuous.
