from the manual: This product is a set of wireless headphones with a companion transmitter. The input jack of the transmitter can be connected to the headphone jack of a device (such as a digital keyboard, guitar amplifier, audio interface, etc.), enabling wireless connection of exceptionally low latency

don't forget it takes sound 5.33ms for sound to travel 6feet if you're using a real cab.. no one ever seems to complain about that. Of course if you're mic'ing it it's essentially zero latency.

Cool idea, I think it can be improved for the next version of these, because for the price range, you'd expect yamaha to do better with those "small, yet annoying details". They get bonus points from Noodle and X !!! 🤗

Yamaha is leading the pack of headphone latency performance. The low latency external charger / wireless transmitter uses a Yamaha proprietary "light weight" Bluetooth protocol that has lower latency. I infer this because I am an engineer who designs Bluetooth audio products for a living. I have great respect for this innovation. I am also a guitar payer and musician. I want one!

This is a great innovation, but also feels weird to me that we've had wireless systems for instruments for a long time and they work great. Why can't/don't they just use that same old technology for wireless headphones? Also curious how these compare to those other "fast wireless musician headphones" by AIAIAI. The Wireless+ or whatever they're called.

You said that modellers + headphone latency could amount to too much latency but it would have been nice to know if it actually did equal too much. Did you try the headphone out of your Helix floor for example? And any other modeller you may have to hand? If so, does it depend on the patch? Do more intensive patches introduce more latency? Something I've not really considered to date.

I see lots of guitars on the wall and I hear you speak about latency with modelers. What I didn’t see, however, is the most important thing: you plugging in a guitar into any modeler (preferably a few) and say, “Wow, that’s good.” Or “Yeah, no, that’s unacceptable.”
Do that first and, then, continue with 15 plus minutes of features and stories.
Note: Yamaha advertises those headphones connected to their modeler / practice amp plus a wireless guitar system (from Line 6). They claim no noticeable latency with guitar wireless + modeler + wireless headphones. Why didn’t you review what Yamaha claims-specifically with their promoted package?

I clearly said the speed is only achieved by using the charging base and NOT with the Bluetooth in your device. So no, it wouldn’t work with your modeler that has Bluetooth, you‘d have to connect that to the charging station gonget the speed.

I have a different thought on the USB cable. Companies should stop providing crappy usb cables. They just end up in the garbage. It is wasteful. They need to label the box clearly with what cables you will need to operate it and let you verify if you have one already the right format and length or you can buy your own at point of sale. Fewer cables will end up at the land fill that way.

I've a feeling they're cheating, using a hybrid Bluetooth / WIFI mix - hence the transmitter. Not tech people normally get confused and assume all 'wireless' devices are Bluetooth. They aren't. Example: Some of my customers accidentally bought BT keyboards / mice for an older PC that didn't support BT, so they couldn't use the keyboard and had to return it. Why? Because they didn't understand about normal 2.4GHz wireless non-Bluetooth, as used by those little mouse/KB dongles we all use. Wifi-style transmission is virtually lag-free and I can't see any other way this can be achieved as the BT standard just doesn't support this. But hey, those clever folk at Yamaha HQ - who knows!

Why bother with cables at home or in rehearsal? I do not get. I see the convinience and the freedom, but imo, better buy would be a Senn HD 600, cheap and for sure better, last long too for sure. I think you are right of course that for the money you can get better sounding headphones, such as the HD600. These are for people who want to practice playing an instrument quietly (say electric guitar) and value being able to do so untethered and without the usual latency issues. The trade off is lower sound quality than wired competitors. Personally I can't stand wires and cables so they certainly appeal to me.
