this one brought me to tears. I suffer from anxiety all my life (was going through an attack right now) and this just made my day. For some, a fear would be jumping off a cliff. for others, it can be mmuch smaller things. But for us they are huge!! And each person has it's owe fears!! I decided to start with changing my hair and see how it goes. Thank you so much for this talk. It might have possibly just changed my life.
I've watched thousands of TED talks..There are very few that have ever encouraged me to change my life...this is the ONLY one that made me truly want to, or let me believe it was possible... The best TED talk, hands down..THANK YOU!
My fear was not breaking up with my boyfriend. He was in construction and I became dependent on him doing so much around my house. He was controlling and I knew I would never have happiness. Once I broke up, I faced my fear. I started to do the small projects around the house. I would look on UA-cam on how to do these projects. One project led to another and another. It was so satisfying to face my fear of taking on these projects and with a sense of accomplishment. I mentioned this to a girlfriend. One day she called to tell me that she too accomplished a home improvement project and wanted me to know that I had inspired her. Wow! I can’t tell how wonderful that was to hear. Face your fears and inspire, pass it on!!
Lloré cuando nombraste Venezuela y lo peligrosa que está..Aún aquí estamos muchos valientes, luchando por un futuro Mejor: estudiando, trabajando, educando a nuestros hijos..
This is an incredible Tedtalk. It deserves so many more views. As someone who has lived life crippled by anorexia , anxiety and depression I know what it is to be controlled by fear. This has really helped me know how to acknowledge and "become intimate" with the fear as Michelle says. Thank you so much you beautiful human for spreading this light for us all
Michelle's video inspired me a lot. How is possible to face so many fear and survive? I understand that stay in our confort zone is simpler, but not the right choice. Trying is the best thing to be free and to have new opportunities. I was also captured by the energy that Michelle transmits in the talk. From now on I will TRY instead of saying "No thanks"
Fear is wisdom in the face of danger. But negotiating with fear is a great solution to be a inspiration to others and specially to ourselves. Thank you Michelle Poler!!......I wish I could meet you in person. With great love and inspiration, Your fan.
Michelle, Although I can honestly say that I have very few fears, I can truly appreciate your conquest! Enjoy life, feel the fear and do it anyway! Keep life great! Never give up and you can consider yourself a success!
Brene Brown says, “Comparison is all about conformity and competition…it is the killer of creativity.” I am who I am. I have something to offer. I will be working on my fear that I can't complete of accomplish anything. I always quit. My fear is I'm not good enough smart enough. I'm not in competition I just have my own creativity and story to tell. Thank you for sharing your fears!
Inspiring. In today's world of electronic communication, it is easier to avoid rejection when it comes over a "dumb" phone, than in person. Increasing people use devices as a crutch, and they lead smaller lives. Cast off your fears, and the world becomes large, and life becomes brilliant.
Thank you so much for this video. I have been having so much doubt and fear in opening my own business. I focused on being embarassed for so long. Wonderful speech!
Beautiful I wanna face my fears and finally start doing my music cause that's what I love But instead I'm stuck in other world and career Thank u No more anxiety and fear for me God bless
11:57 PROFOUND! Amazing truth! I have finally started to face my fears, one by one, little things and big things.. and that is the absolute truth. I get to feel these emotions i never feel when consumed and hiding behind fears. Excellent work! Oh and thanks for using one of my comments on your powerpoint! SO COOL!!!
+Van San Awesome!! So great you saw your comment up there! That's what motivated me the most, all of your support and encouragement to keep going!! Glad to hear that you started to face your fears!!!! Keep me updated!
THANK YOU SO MUCH MICHELLE, this is so inspiring, lately I realized that fears are limiting me to live my life the fullest but now I decide that's not going to happen from now on. I'll start to face "my" fears.
This year I am facing STAGE FEAR... I decided to enroll to music conservatory after years of struggling with piano. Right now I am singing opera! And I did it because I thought if I decided this is what I want to do in life I have to decide not because I think I cannot do it but because even though I could I don´t want to.... So... You are very inspiring for me! I ´ve enjoyed watching your videos a lot and the part I love the most is "inspiring others". So... Keep going, Michelle! P.S.: I love how you presented your project in this TED, funny, beautiful, inspiring, honest.... Congratulations!
When you walk the talk the effect of your efforts on others can be great. Action speaks louder than words. We truly are inspired to take a step towards facing our fear. Beautiful talk dear.
I loved your openness , bravery and truth. I'm so proud of you for facing 100 fears! I have a fear of flying but I force myself to do it because I want to travel. I'm facing my biggest fear soon of flying to Europe alone for the first time. I rewatched your video for inspiration. I want to face fears instead of being held hostage by them. People like you inspire me and others to step out of our comfort zone, push past anxiety to get to see we can do that which seems "too terrifying". I can't imagine sky diving but I'm not saying never , it's good to tackle fears and get stronger as you've showcased. Did you overcome your fears? Or just face them? I'm wondering if just doing them changes it eventually or if some still remain. I have fears of heights and claustrophobia and I can't imagine ever getting past them, every time I go over bridges I get anxious, just going over hem doesn't take it away.
Love this. I really liked the introduction part about the motivation: fear of living. This has happened to me for a long period of my life, stuck in fear of living, by and large. You story is so inspiring that I decided to set myself the most daunting challenge: facing and overcoming fear of new activities, of new relationships. This brought tears to my eyes, however I’m determined: I’ll consult a good therapist who could help me face all my fears, even though I’m not as young as Michelle. But guess what? I’m afraid, anyway I don't wanna miss out on new opportunities in my life.
Alright, what you done is great, I'm really glad you were able to fight your fears, but like you said in the beginning, I am quite comfortable with my fears. I don't feel I am missing out on anything, for instance, I dislike spiders (I saw that was one of your challenges) I know quite well that if a spider crawls on me nothing will happen. I simply don't want it to happen, therefore I don't think letting one do it will help me in any way. I would completely agree that people need to face their fears, if they are social anxiety and inner personal struggles. Your approach is good, and I am sure it will help others, but I have grown to be quite comfortable with what I like/dislike(fear). Therefore tackling your fears is a good way to battle them, but knowing your boundaries and being comfortable with them is another.
I was thinking something like that but You expand my horizons. I never thought I can have more than 6 fears. This is amazing way to tackle them in a fun day
Great Ted Talk, the mix outta explaination about the subject + real life experiences is making it almost perfect. And the message is strong + its easy to start something yourself, no madder what level each is.
I was very lucky to attend your luncheon yesterday day in San Antonio, you were by far one of the best speakers I’ve listened to (I was the sound girl in the back) and want you to know it inspired me. Keep it up girl!
Utterly inspiring. I’m going to do this as well. I have an extreme fear of death, and a need for control. So it’s crippled me from doing anything. I’m going to change.
This really resonated with me. I was really inspired by your talk at the 2021 Global Leadership Summit (GLS), and so I went looking for you all over the internet. You have a great fan here Michelle.
This is very inspiring, thank you mam for sharing your experience with putting Fear in it's right place as an emotion like the others not the big monster that holds us back from living our life
One of the only fears I have is dissapointing my dad. Recently I did something that I still feel is the right choice for me and makes me happy. However I knew it would dissappoint my dad. I decided to face my fear and have a talk to my dad to see if I could get him to understand my choice. He didn't and I was slammed down. It felt like the earth could swallow me whole and at the same time everything inside me was crushed. It's been a month now since then and we are polite to each other and still love each other. But emotionally I am still hurt and feel all broken up about what happened. He will never approve of my choice and I need to find a way to accept it. I don't think my fear of dissapointing my dad will ever go away.
I don't know how old you are but it took me to the age of 41 before I could stand up for myself to my mom. I am sensitive and kind and I suspected that she would reject me for my decision. And she did reject me for about 6 months. I remained strong and she finally came around. Don't give up. You will make it. Your dad needs to respect you. Bless you
Nada Abu shamia yes, but before u had seen this , u have power ur inside, now u brought that power out side, any way keepitup.... bye the bye iam Srihari from India (Hyderabad)
