- Charles Vane was a versatile sailor and one who knew the seas well. However, could it be that his knowledge of the waters and the ships on them, lead him to act with reserve when it came to plunder?

"When I take something from a man - his ship, his money, his life - I don’t hide behind a clerk. I don’t hide behind the law. I don’t hide behind anything. I look him in his eye and I give him every chance to deny me."
i dont mean to be so off topic but does any of you know of a way to log back into an Instagram account..?
I stupidly forgot my account password. I appreciate any assistance you can give me!
@Jaiden Jacob instablaster ;)
@Remington Zechariah Thanks so much for your reply. I found the site thru google and im in the hacking process atm.
I see it takes quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Remington Zechariah it worked and I finally got access to my account again. I am so happy!
Thank you so much, you saved my ass !
@Jaiden Jacob happy to help :D
It's cool how a lot of pirates worked together at some point or had interaction in some way. I think he was just being cautious about things. But a little more chance might have done him well. Thanks for the great video.
Charles vane: I get your ship I get your cargo I get your weapons I get it all
Ned low: and what exactly do I get in return for all that?
Charles vane: A Headstart
best character in the Black sails series
In the series his character never really breaks from true pirate ideals. He was the real deal.
Josh Cook He was also the most selfless character. Even his leadership style was “I’ll put my crew’s needs ahead of everything to ensure their loyalty”. When he saved Flint, he put his personal feelings against him aside and went to get him. It wasn’t out of personal obligation, it was because he knew the weight his name carried for the enemies of Nassau, and how becoming a trophy would ruin them. McGowan himself has said that the only lie Vane said in the show was “I didn’t do it for you” when he told Eleanor he killed Low. Fascinating character.
feels bad that his death was all in vain
the war and pirates all go to shit, the worst character in the series is leading nassau
Truly!
sooooo hot
Pretty amazing that I looked exactly like Zach McGowan!
U should be thankful for that. U could look like the pic from Wikipedia....
Love pirate history. Binge-watching. Great vids!
Greed kills. Charles wasn't tryin' to die.
Not if you were a Scottish pirate like Ruari the Turbulent who were very successful with there fortune and died peacefully in there bed
@@edwardneilloftheclanmacnei7057 I feel ya. 😁😁😊😊
Some people greedy n lucky. Generally greed will lead to failure. I assume Vane didn't think he is lucky he replied in what he has n experience.
I love all the pirate stories
Charles Vale was one of the real life historical person of short-lived Black Sail series.
My favorite show, better than game of thrones, well the first 3 seasons of blacksails were definitely
Its Charles Vane mate not Vale.
@@vperkv6554 the ending was weird. They made captain into a submisive halfwit working in a field with his boyfriend. Wtf
David Valter no they didn’t haha all he wanted was to be with the man he loved, it’s like if the punisher was killing loads of criminals out of anger for his families death and then finding out they’re not dead he would then go back and try to become a normal father again
@@lewisburrow3946 it was total bs.
Although flawed I found the Netflix new Pirate documentary series pretty good and Vane as one of the most interesting (and viscous) pirates of that time
I looked forward for that
Actually Vane did the right thing avoiding that french warship.I would've done the same if I saw a huge man o war.
depends offcourse but "warship" is usually a bad idea, then again the french are generally less disciplined on the water being a land power
Vane was a true badass
I'm thinking this man already had his lute hidden somewhere. He might have been wise enough to be happy with what he had and not be sought after by officials. I would imagine he settled in North Carolina eventually and possibly might have come from there. There were several Pirates Who were known to have settled in North Carolina Georgia and of course Louisiana
I'm history nut so new sub here 💖 love the artwork you use. Great video. I look forward to more. Thanks ✌️
Very well done video. However, I respectfully suggest you give some credit to Black Sails in recognition of the footage and show-inspired artwork. Seems only fair.
Is I found out about him from assassin's Creed IV Black flag
0:24 - 1:00 Black Sail's first season plot in a nutshell
Thanks for the history lesson!
Love your videos. Can you do one on Grace O'Malley? The Pirate Queen of Ireland
She's next ;)
He made one
I dipped on the entire series within the minute that Vane was killed off
I think saying that like most pirates Vane just wanted more is probably a harsh and inevitably an inaccurate conclusion. What other choices did he have? Become a rancher, plantation owner or farmer? Open a tavern-brothel? A bit tame wouldn't you say? I think like many men before and since, he decided to stick with what he knew with the obvious advantage of working for himself. I enjoyed your video.
Keeping your men lower is the most important thing. The ideas you have are mere thoughts in your head if the workers don't want to listen
Pirates worked by intimidation. They didn't wouldn't want to get the ship and cargo damaged.
Yes your ryte
I'm sorry for not watching your vid sooner but I got it just as I was about to go to work & went straight to bed when I got back home but I'v seen it now, very interesting fellow, although I don't think that he was a coward, I do think that he was overly cautious & his men begin to resent him for it 😕 cool vid, with some nice pic's 😊 I was just wondering if you were going to be doing any vid's on the Captain's that tried to catch the pirate's? 😊
No problem xD I did look into pirate hunters, but for the most part their only notable achievement is the capturing of said pirate. So there wouldn't really be much to speak about. Maybe I'll do a video featuring a whole bunch of them at some point. :)
The Legends of History
Fair enough 😂 but I do enjoy your vid's 😊

Your saying vain kept sounding like rain and I was like who are we talking about again 😅
I was so confused because sometimes he called him with a Hard V sound then turned around and said Reign lol
Charles Vane was probably not a nice guy....but when you hear his story about being a slave in the past... So I think he was special and wanted to protect pirates and Nassau!!! He was the best character of Black Sails!!!!! ❤❤
I believe Charles Vane to be the most bad ass pirate of all time! This opinion has very little to do with his character on the show black sails, it has to with how he conducted himself and never ever gave up on the pirates code. Also Woods Rogers is one of the worst people who ever lived.
I find it ironic that pirates were formerly privateers for the crown. In black sails, woods Rogers claimed to be a privateer once as well. The only difference was one served the crown, and the rest were unemployed after the war with spain.
What a badass
I find it funny how there’s all these people talking about the black sails version of him and this video talks about the IRL Charles Vane being (to put it bluntly) a coward of a pirate
But who remembers the feral savage pirate we see in Asassins Creed 4? That’s the Charles Vane I knew
Try meditation skills for your battle
Mentioned Henry Jennings 🎉
fan of back sails lol?
Yup, same here lol
What's to lol about?
Hell yeah
we need a sequel with jack , anne and mary read
So Jack Sparrow tipped his hat to Calico and Vane... and Sven the Vicious
Roar
My story
I really love how assassin's creed 4 is so accurate as this story cause if you think about all of it is pretty much the same
Anyone from Assassin's Creed Black Flag?
My name
Was he in assassins creed 4
Yes
But what the card reckless greed do again?
Draw 2 cards from your deck but skip your next 2 Draw Phases.
And yes it have everything to do with this video
Jesus with abs
Try me.
Captain Flint ?
I was looking dit captain James flint but i did not find something.....sorry
Flint is a character of Treasure Island, not a historical figure
@@belmorra24 Are you sure? Captain Flint is a historical character
You pronounced 'Calico' wrong. Just saying, because I'm a prick bastard. Cheers mate
And its 'Vaine' not 'Rain'.
Was this a show or what?!?!?
You mean the pictures and clip used in this video? Those were from a show called "Black Sails"
@@KoltiraMemeweaver I just seen pictures of Zach McGowan as a pirate, didn't know he was in that show. Thanks
Np dude! Yep he plays Charles Vane in the show. He's pretty badass
Zach McGowan = sexiest pirate ever.
humans dwell more on perceived losses of revenue then they do on potentially losing their lives. especially uneducated pirates lol
I mean how you gonna be a Pirate 🏴☠️ and be cautious. It’s like being a swimming 🏊♀️ athlete but don’t wanna get wet 🤦🏽♂️
