Hear me out: Batter Head: 232 or 233hz | 235hz if you want 160hz fundemental. Reso Head: 400hz Batter Fundamental Frequency (Snare off, but hearing both heads together/center hit): My favorite: 157/158hz (D#3) | or 160hz This get that Passion/Slightly higher bethel sound. Its what I heard at Passion 2024. Not sure what snare you got, but I super recommend THE GOAT COMBO: Remo Powerstroke P4 coated, Remo Clear Hazy Reso head, Evan's E-Ring + 1 moongel with it. Give it a try and let me know your thoughts! So far this on my Ludwig Universal Black 14x8, i can't tell the difference between it and a black beauty/truth customs. Sounds AWESOME.
To answer your question specifically, give this a try?: The fundamental frequency in the video is 146hz. For the Batter head, this may be around 210-215hz? I think that's the ballpark. For the Reso head I would crank to 400hz personally, but he might be somewhere around 380hz or lower. Play around with that but I recommend trying it CRANKED (400) first. Let me know your thoughts!
Is that tuning method for metal snare drums only or does it work with steel drums also? Does it work with different snare wires or are they a key element to get that crack?
you need at least 20-30 snare wires but 42 is the most ideal and it works with any snare shell (edit) I use a Custom Dallas Snare 6.5x14 Beadless Brass, I used to use 42 but I’m using 20-24 currently but I’m gonna try 30 strands, P77 Batter side but I’m gonna try the Powerstroke 4 because everybody else is using it and the bottom is a Remo Ambassador Hazy Side. 8x14 is the most ideal for that Big fat tone but 6.5 works very well too because it’s more versatile, the 8x14 is a one trick pony where it only does the Fat snare very well but can’t do anything else but the 6.5x14 is more versatile and you can tune it very high or you can tune it very fat
Do people actually need a guide for this? This is pretty much every snare sound out there right now. Deep drum, loose top, throw a weight on, crank the reverb like a teenager who just bought Altiverb with his mom's credit card.
Hey Phillip! Thanks for the comment. I think people do need a guide for low snare drum tunings. I think people need a guide for all kinds of tunings for a snare! It's actually more challenging to tune a snare low and making it sound good compared to cranking a snare super tight. I also think it is important that we as musicians support and edify others. We all have different tastes. That is what makes music so incredible! P.s. I do not know what "Altiverb" is. My mom bought me the "Valhalla Room" reverb.
@@aidenfowler2245 Haha, not a problem. Love that you put this out there! You're 100% right -- people struggle to get good low snare sounds, especially in churches. This is a great guide. My post was more a facetious joke for the jaded mix engineers out there
Can you please let me know what lug locks you use? Looks like you put on after the tensions rods are tightened (not underneath tension rods)? Thank you
You get a "beefier" hit in the center of the drum. Feels like i get some "oomph" out the snare when I use the backstick. Might be placebo and preference. Give it a try!
This comment made me laugh, thanks! I do think it is sooo important for us as drummers to adapt and learn from every genre and every sound. Most of the hate on this video was about the sound I was going for and that makes me sad to see. Being versatile in a constantly evolving field, is extremely important.
Solid effort homie but that snare sound bad in my Opinion. Maybe its the P77, i think the P4 or really just a Coated Emp work best. Sans the snare weight. Let that drum breathe a tad more- the full kit mix and effects will cover any slight overtones.
Learn how to tune...pitch pipe and a drum key...BASICS!!! Bethel Sound...but some vinyl records and listen to any power rock ballad...Phil Collins is probably the best known for this sound...these durn milllenials.
If that's the sound you're looking for just get a cardboard box and hit it. That snare drum sounds like crap. And for the novice drummers watching this once you get the lugs close to the tightness you want and have the tension equal on all lugs THEN PUT YOUR BODY WEIGHT ON THE CENTER OF THE HEAD SO IT WILL SIT ON THE DRUM. If you don't seat it right from the begging it will go out of tune after using it for a while and you'll have to retune it.
@@aidenfowler2245 I found it a long time ago, didn't mean to sound rude with my comment but it's far from what I go for I prefer more of a Stewart Copeland slash John Bonham sound.
Snare: Ludwig Black Magic 8x14
Snare Head: Remo Powerstroke 77
dw 14x6 maple snare abassador head. tuned low and used moon gel. got the exact sound
the ambassador also adds more tone to increase the gain on the sound and gives it more tuning poosiblilties
Sample?
this better than the bethel sound cause they use samples.. this is the real deal. great snare sound man!!!
