  • You have to really earn your catch when spearfishing near sharks. Grayson Shepard nearly enters a tug-of-war battle with bull sharks over his freshly captured Grouper. Watch the shark fearlessly come in for a bite or a near attack. it was a close call to say the least.

Blowing bubbles and shouting in the water intimidates most sharks (when scuba diving) .

0:34😂😂😂😂 That's hilarious. I wouldn't expect anyone to say that to a shark that close

Left my Subway foot long unattended on the couch once (smoked turkey w/ extra cheese), looked up and saw my terrier mix making a beeline for me and the sandwich. Gave a throaty growl and jabbed the tv remote in his direction. He backed off but continued to circle the couch until I had finished the sub. Same alpha move that I see on the video. Seriously though, great video, subbed.

Man this video is something else.. It's far more disturbing for the fact that at 0:49-0:55 not only do two sharks head towards him, one from head on, another from his left POV side and off screen was another one that had just prior to this swam off to the right on an angle that suggests it was going to start circling him.. Now obviously There's no way to know for certain if the 3rd shark was at his blind, swimming somewhere behind him, unnoticed.. That's a grim situation and you're lucky to be alive yet unscathed.. I understand the concept of fisherman not wanting to give up their catch to hungry sharks because it'll normalize the sharks into expecting that to happen when they approach divers.. they will begin to associate divers with food just like most other animals.. But this one was a good exception to just toss the fish and make your calculated ascent to the boat.. and when you got fresh blood hanging from you that smell alone will turn them more aggressive. Just like if you were to shoot an animal in Africa near a pride of lions.. The lions are going to pick up on the scent and lord knows what comes after that 😅

Robby Stamper you’re 100% correct. I’m stubborn, and won’t give up a fish under any circumstance. But I have before and the results are even more terrifying. Once they do eat, they go into a frenzy. Whatever fish was given up is devoured within seconds and they madly search for more. You can’t turn your head fast enough to track them all and the feeling of helplessness is horrible. I will never do that again. These are wild sandbar sharks in N FL seeing a diver most likely for the first time. These are not resident reef sharks in the Bahamas used to being fed for tourist photo ops.
Turn the volume up and you can hear me growling at them like a dog defending his bone. I don’t know if it works or not, but it makes me feel better.
Coincidentally, I dove this same site this past Saturday for the 2018 Lionfish World Tournament and thankfully there were zero sharks on it.
My all girl team and I placed 2nd in the tourney.
      Cheers, and thanks for watching!

grayshep Oh man this is to cool, I never thought I'd actually get a reply from you! And yeah I can't blame you for not wanting to give up your fish, it's dangerous but what people fail to realise (even myself at times) is that when you don't give up a fish you're actually helping to reduce the chances of sharks attacking humans or going after other drivers fish. And i definitely heard the growl xD I'm pretty certain it helps deter the sharks, I've watched tons of videos where divers who don't yell get bit where divers who scream, even at the last second, it usually deters the shark into doing a 180° and backing off for the moment giving the diver time to prepare for his next move.
Congratulations on your win btw, cleaning up lionfish is a great service to marine life, I saw one stung ya in video too and you still continued to spear more.. good stuff. I look forward to seeing more dive videos from ya. I should probably check your channel, I'm pretty certain I subscribed a few days ago but I'll double check!
Thanks for the reply, in a way this is kinda surreal because I've watched a bunch of your dive videos and shark encounters and it's almost like I'm talking to a celebrity right now 😂🙏😅

People commonly think just hand over but I tell people if your that scared you dont belong in the water .fact is they know as soon as that band pops its feeding time ..don't hand over easy then they start associating ever diver with food ! I've been diving these waters forever not going to put up a fight with a great whit if it came up to it ..would carefully say bye and get on the boat but definitely do what you can to not just hand them over after every shot !! Thanks Capt Brandon Panama city beach fl
