- Which is the best modern muscle car? Adam, Rutledge and Tanner drag race down the LA river. Rutledge begins in the 1970 Dodge Challenger, Adam in the 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 302 and Tanner in the 1969 Chevrolet Camaro SS. For the return leg Rutledge chose the 2012 Dodge Challenger SRT8. Adam chose the 2012 Ford Mustang GT. Tanner chose the 2012 Chevrolet Camaro SS.

Seriously, the noise that came out of the 70 Challenger sounded more like a freaking turbine spooling than a car motor. Like a lion roaring or something.

Adam cant even launch the Mustang, classic or modern,
Rutledge knew what he was doing in the classic Challenger but lost it in the modern,
and then then there's Tanner the only one that could drive both generations of the Camaro.

Jack Benton the camaro had painted bumpers too aswell as an aftermarket interior, aswell as the mustang was lowered and had different rims. Not one of those cars are stock
@Ken Norcott yeah I know, a dead stock one of any of those cars would be worth well over 100k (atleast where I live) but I still think it’s not accurate to compare modified cars to each other and then claim that because this modified car won all of that car are better than all of the other modified car

Tecnically the Challenger, Camaro and Mustang arent muscle cars, theyre pony cars. The Charger, Chevelle and the Torino are musclecars.

The muscle cars were bigger plus every make had a muscle car even the luxury cars were half muscle and half luxury cars I wish I can go back in time but I play mafia 3 and that's the closest I can get.
Does it really matter? As far as I am concerned they are mostly a similar concept. Technically pony cars are smaller and more balanced, which means that at least the challenger, if not the 2nd gen mustang, are in fact muscle cars.
At this point the modern challenger, mustang and camaro are equivalent to modern full sizes and thus should qualify as muscle cars. The charger is definitely a muscle car and the challenger is in the same chassis

That Mustang was a resto-mod. The wheels and tires, the 5 speed instead of 4. The Challenger and the Camaro were both automatic and back then the auto's were alot slower than the manuals, and the Challenger was most likely a 440 racing the small block SS350 Camaro. Still pretty cool, but wish they held out for original 4 speeds of every car.

The issue with Top gear US is that they try to be like Top Gear UK and try to not be like them all at the same time. The presenters of the show have canned interactions with each other and it all feels flat. I like some of the challenge ideas they have on paper, but once executed it fails to deliver overall, for me.

Actually, you could get good braking performance on the Challengers, if you knew how to order them, set them up...and maintain them.
The R/T and TA models had pretty good, heavy duty disc brakes in front, but they worked longer if you installed semi-metallic pads and high-temp brake fluid (DOT 4, if I recall). The brake lines had to be carefully bled before you went out racing. Rear brakes were drums that also benefitted from semi-metallics and arcing.
If you did those things you'd have fun.
I don't care if you dislike the hosts or the entire show, but you all have to admit this was awesome.

I agree, I was working in the US when I got into it, about halfway through season 1 and have been a fan ever since. The guys are funny and entertaining. yes its not the same as Top Gear UK but thats okay.
Finally, a good Top Gear US clip...I love when the do the truck and domestic US vehicles...I have more appeals for Top Gear UK when it comes to the high power foreign super cars and ridiculously hilarious challenges

+WarmSoftKitty WRONG. There's something called power/weight and the mustang had them beat. Camaro has 400hp cuz it was an auto, challenger had 470hp, and this year mustang had 412hp. Mustang weighs 600lbs less than the challenger and 400-300lbs less than the camaro. It was the Mustangs race to lose but Adam can't drive plus they gave him the slowest classic.
@@AutoYoung You're an idiot. The 1970 Challenger is wildly faster in a drag race than the Camaro / Mustang. The Challenger R/T had a 440 big block versus the smallblocks in the other 2 cars. The best driver won in situation despite driving the slower car -- a modern day SRT8 Challenger is just as fast as a Mustang GT..... and the classic Challenger was a LOT faster (by about 2 seconds in the 1/4 mile).
@@LakeHowellDigitalVideo srt8 are slow 0-60 4.5 bmw of nowadays with 330hp hit it in 4.5 also and with a tune don't even talk about it with just that already at 3.8 weigh about 3850 same as the mustang and camaro and like 300
