2:22 Fun Fact: *Book's novelization explores this detail-the eventual antagonist; Rattlesnake Jake have killed Rango's predecessors (previous sheriffs). Judging by the number of collected badges-he may have killed seven lawmen so far*
It's already shown in the movie that the last sheriff, Amos, was killed by Rattlesnake Jake, so the implication would be that he killed multiple previous sheriffs.
The fact that this includes the deleted scenes as well just makes this clip even better. Long live Rango. 12 years of perfection from “a very lonely lizard”
@@radio7353 imaging comparing Rio Bravo, the man that shot liberty valance, for a few dollas more, sabata, and the good the bad and the ugly with rango hahahahahahaha
I also have a feeling that in the past every Sheriff was in someway corrupt for the Mayor. That’s why the Mayor said he is no problem, he is the solution. I feel it’s because he figured Rango would just be another desperate Lawman. Who would use his title as sheriff to lock everyone in town into a false sense of security. But would also do his bidding behind the curtain. So that’s another reason the Mayor was so quick to give this “expendable” stranger the role of Sheriff. To give the towns people some form of false hope.
That's how you control people, sadly. Through their beliefs. It's the only power that works because people aren't able to resist you because they can't see you doing it. And if they do, what are they gonna do? Would they even want to? It's easier to focus on what gives you comfort in the moment. What made Rango unique in contrast to the previous Sheriffs is that, despite being a fraud, and a liar, Rango did have a genuine desire to do good. To be a Hero. Like all Westerns, the main protagonist ain't clean. Not always. In the case for Rango, like I said, he was a fraud. But his actions also did him credit. Which carried him to se it all through to the end. He was both actor and Hero and goofball at the same time. He's so layered, I can't even joke about it. I love this movie.
The turtle was not a VEEEEERY unlikeable villain. He's the business guy villain, pretty good at what he does too. He's greedy but not bloodthirsty. And he tends to offer you an alternative, like you can fit into the new world or goodbye. When Jake was about to kill Beans he actually tried to stop him. He could have just remained silent but tried to mediate the situation. You gotta say what's right. It is understandable that he wanted to kill off Rango since he was becoming a problem and blatantly refused the opportunity to be part of the Mayor's plan. Every villain has the mentality of destroying everything in their way. However it pissed me off that he tried to kill Jake, because getting rid of the last gunslinger was not a strong motive to me. Yeah modern world has no need for outlaws but he was working for you and you summoned him...what a reward... But I got a feeling it was just because of plot... The Mayor's not my favourite character, I like Jake. They both are villains. Jake seems to be capable of respecting CERTAIN people (on the other side the Mayor offers you opportunities to join him), he's generally brave (the Mayor is not) smart and strong (Mayor's cunning but not strong). Plus Jake has very cool eyes lol Jake strikes you immediately as a cool guy. Feared gunslinger (fame preeceds him), skilled with guns, cunning cuz he finds out Rango is a "pathetic fraud" cit., clever cuz he knows how to torture you psychologically... then how to forget the red sunset behind him the first time he appears. You see him and you say he's cool cuz he is meant to be cool. And some people instinctively (it is not logical but it is human behavior) tend to "justify" someone's evil actions/understand them/feel inclined to give them a 2nd chance if they are cool. Certainly you cannot say the same for an old turtle in a wheelchair All this rant to say one last thing: IMHO, if you say Jake does not deserve to die (and I agree) neither did the Mayor. Even though it is a less likeable character
I'd like to point out that I think the whole reason the mayor summoned Jake in the first place, was to eventually kill him. Use him one last time before cleaning him up forever, since it was very likely Jake would prove to be a problem for his new world long term since he was basically as much as past of the old world as Rango and the others were. Tying up loose ends so to speak.
1:50. An interesting thing: it’s long been believed that to drink a toast with water in the glass is bad luck, and if anything, it is better luck to toast with an empty glass. Rango was the lucky one here, the Mayor was not.
Kelsey Grammer, John Lithgow, Willem Dafoe, Alec Baldwin, Christopher McDonald, Jeffrey Tambor, Gary Oldman, Rupert Everett, Jason Alexander, Robert Downey Jr., David Cross, Paul Giamatti, Patrick Stewart, Jeff Bridges, Ian Mckellen, Bill Nighy, Robert De Niro, James Cromwell, Tommy Lee Jones and Christopher Walken were all considered for the role of Tortoise John before Ned Beatty was cast.
Kelsey Grammar makes the most sinister, con-artist, yet calm and collected like villains. Dafoe is good at making unhinged, unpredictable sociopaths, while Patrick Stewart seems like he'd make purely comic relief villains.
It was from the extended version on dvd. I'm not sure why there really was an extended edition because the extra clips in it only lasted for a few seconds, apart from that extended ending that wasn't shown in the theaters.
Certain clips were edited out at the last minute for the theatrical release of the movie to bring down the run time a bit. But these clips were restored for the DVD release. Netflix is notorious for always showing the shortened cuts of movies that have extended editions.
He is drink water like a expensive whiskey
Nice way of showing how rare and valuable it is to them
Here in California it seams like we have more whiskey than water … in our case it’s not as much Global Warming as it is poor water management.
In the desert it is expensive whiskey
Despite knowing all the way through this guy was a villain I think he's a pretty well written character
Agreed.
