    → Who are we?
Hey there! We are Greg and Hillary - a husband and wife team that loves traveling, going on adventures, and helping others do the same! Although we love traveling, at this point in time, we still have full time 9-5 jobs in Dallas, Texas.
In August of 2016, we packed up our things, Greg quit his job, and we moved to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico!
Hillary is working remotely for her CPA firm and Greg is working on this site full time.
We view ourselves as fairly ordinary people, complete with an ordinary income, ordinary jobs, and (unfortunately) an ordinary amount of student loan debt (thanks UNT!).
I know what you are thinking, “Aren’t travel blogs supposed to be written by hippies that don’t have jobs and live in hostels?!” Well don’t you worry, we are working on making that happen! Although we hope to become full time travelers in the next 1-2 years, this site is not necessarily aimed at people that want to travel full time.
Our hope is not that you quit your job and become a long haired, bearded, Volkswagen van driving hippy. Instead, our hope is that after reading our stories you are more inspired to live a more fulfilling life from 5pm-9am!
Why such the emphasis on how ordinary we are? Although we love reading travel blogs, it is easy to feel disconnected from the writers at times. It seems as though they are leading such extraordinary lives that they are somehow doing something that is unreachable to the “average” person.
We are here to prove that wrong. We are here to tell you that even if you work a full-time job and only get two weeks of vacation each year-you still have the power to design an adventurous life for yourself. Afterall, that is exactly where we started before leaving it all behind to live la vida loca!
After having several caffeine induced conversations about how people should travel more and shift their priorities in a way that will lead to a more fulfilling life, we decided to share our stories with you.
Our purpose in creating Kinetic Kennons is to share our stories of travels, adventures, and funny mishaps and to inspire others to design a life full of exploration. Throughout this site you will find posts about how to go on a cheap weekend trip, funny stories such as the time Hillary forgot to update her passport before an international trip, and inspirational rants on why you should lead a more adventurous life!

Those two dots on the U are called "dieresis", normally in spanish the U is silent when put next to a G and before a E or I, but when you put the dieresis it means that you have to pronounce the U, it sounds like, güe = the we in "went", and güi = Wii.

If you want to know the difference is that they also make coconut horchata and then there is rice horchata so that is the difference. Both are super delicious you should try the coconut horchata.

I'm mexican and i can tell that horchata is water made with rice, coconut or both, and has condensed milk, lemon and cinnamon. What you probably didn't like was a water made with horchata syrup, because it's pretty comun that most places prefers to buy a premade syrup and mix it with water than make their own horchata. And horchata, jamaica and lemonade syrup tastes pretty bad, but for some places along the country could be cheaper. I'm from Tabasco, México and here we made the best horchata de coco (coconut) o de arroz (rice), because the area produces both products and send them to the country.

  • @VAN4U2
    @VAN4U2 7 років тому +3

Hola güeros nice video, you need to try other food besides tacos and quesadillas, make a video were you try other food like tostadas, sopes, tlayudas, chalupas poblanas (the real ones not like the us chalupas), mole (there are dozens of kinds), tortas, cemitas, pelonas, molotes just for naming a few, every state has different food, If you can travel to Puebla is a very good city known for it's great food, if you come, it's a great time to try Chiles en Nogada which are made only beetween august and September, Welcome to Mexico and have a nice time n_n

ALL those tacos look sooo good. Love your close-up shots. Yumm I love horchata. Yeah, horchata is rice water. I get them here in Dallas sometimes when I go to one of the small "real" Mexican taco places - Davis Street in Oak Cliff. I'm one of the few gringos who will go to the real taquerias here, but they're not as good as what I see on your plates, lol. Can't believe you guys went to that many places all together. It's all good ;-)

So basically the only difference between "Horchata" and "Rice water", is just that.. The name. Foreigners would ask what it was called, have a hard time pronouncing it, finally asking what was is in it, and booom, rice water was born. Or so I think

Hola: Las Guera's or Los Guero's not only refers to the hair color but your skin color too! My wife is from Mexico City but her skin tone is very fair, so she gets called Guera all the time there. The pronunciation would be close to saying WED-ah. Or WED-oh. Love ❤️ the videos of Mexico 🇲🇽. Memo maybe is his name, in spanish we call the people who's name is "Guillermo" = Memo, also "Gueras" means womans with white skin, that is mostly in Mexico, so you will find that another way to call white people is "Gueros" other than "Gringos" the 2 points over the "U" means that the "U" should be pronounce other way sound like "Guillermo" in this case the "U" is mute
now the difference between "Gringos" and "Gueros" is that "Gringos" is exclusive only for USA white people and "Gueros" is for anybody with white skin no matter what country is from, as you probably know there is a lot of white people in mexico but race is not a thing people don't talk about it is meaningless conversation

Hola Amy! I usually just get a cheese quesadilla and add beans (and not think about what the beans may be made with-ew). I'm sort of a fake vegetarian :) There are a few really great places here in town we highly recommend for veggie options-Salud Super Food (great veggie burgers), Planeta Vegetariana (cheap buffet with all vegetarian options). For tacos in particular, we recommend Veggie Table. They make street type tacos-all made with veggies and they are really awesome! I don't think they have a website, but here is a link to their Facebook: facebook.com/veggietable.com.mx/

About the horchata and rice water it depends where you are and who you ask. It could be the same thing OR the differences could be that horchata is made with:
      -rice obviously (cooked),
      -cinnamon
      -vanilla
-condensed milk and some other ingredients
And the rice water is almost the same just with raw rice.
Horchata also can be prepared from other flavors like coconut, almonds, etc... but the most common flavor is rice and we just call it horchata so the correct name is horchata de arroz (rice horchata).
      aaand...
the words with "gü" are pronounced like a "w", so güeras and Güipis are pronounced like "weras" and "wipis".

Reading so many comments on both sides, I'm guessing that the initial G is silent in some parts of México and spoken in others. Much like a violin has strings in New York, but in Nashville, a fiddle got strangs.
