1976 Banana 🍌 Yellow Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Brougham Junkyard Find

  • This banana yellow 1976 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Brougham hit the junkyard recently so I decided to go check it out. Obviously it had been repainted in this "look at me" yellow not too long ago as it was still very bright. They had also applied some rhino liner as I'm willing to bet this was a vinyl top car with some roof rust. The interior was about average for a junkyard find and it appeared that the pillow top seats may have been swapped in but I'm not sure. This being a Brougham, it did have power door locks and power windows as well as power driver seat along with a tilt steering column. I would have preferred some buckets, center console with matching steering column but no such luck. I couldn't get into the trunk but from what I could see through the back seat area, there wasn't much in there Under the hood was a small block olds with number 8 heads, and a painted black Rotchester carburetor with glitter to sprinkled over it. The one cool thing under the hood was the vintage Holley Oldsmobile valve covers. They are not reproduced anymore so they are somewhat sought-after.

All in all, it was probably in driving condition the way it sits. The radiator must've been new or pricey as that was one of the first things to go.
The worst part of the car are the seats and the floor, but everything else is good enough for a driver for sure.
Won't win any car shows, but it'll sure stand out enough in a car show for an honorable mention and in any parking lot.
Should it have been saved? Absolutely. The yard should also have put in the effort in selling.

Good eye. This was a 76. The only visible difference you will be able to see between the 76 and the 77 is those air vents. The round air vents were on the 73-76 models. They were round only on the passenger side with the drivers side being long rectangular shaped. In 77, they made the vents match on both sides with the long rectangular shape. I have a 76 Cutlass S with the same round vents. My friend had a 77 Cutlass S that had the rectangular vents on both sides. Parked beside each other you could not see the difference, (Both cars were black with black interior), until you looked at the air vents.

Whoa Nelley, it's yellow and that one isn't mellow.......
We got the VIN, we win: 3 for Oldsmobile, M for Cutlass Supreme Brougham, 57 for two door coupe hardtop, R for 350 V8 with four barrel, Oldsmobile produced, 6 for 1976 model year, R for Arlington, TX assembly and the rest is the production sequence. So, yes, it was a Brougham originally.
We got the tag, we can brag: ST76 for 1976 model year, 3AM57 for Cutlass Supreme Brougham two door coupe hardtop, R for Arlington, TX assembly, 74H for Red interior trim, AM6 for front split bench with armrest, three passenger, 37L for Mahogany metallic lower exterior paint, 37T for Mahogany vinyl top, 10D for the fourth week of October 1975 production.
This is considered the "Colonnade" and was basically the same across the board from 1973 to 1977, and was downsized in 1978, then "refreshed" in 1980, and then redesigned for 1981 to 1988. They sold like wildfire and people either liked them or hated them, but most liked them. They were everywhere back then and through the 1980s. By the 1990s they thinned out a bit and by now they are harder to find.
Whoa Nelley, "I'm just wild about saffron (yellow)" and this one is soon to be jello. Banana on a peel, the end is near I feel. 3-5-0 and gotta go. Brougham and soon to go home. 1976 and it hit the bricks. 3AM57 and going to Heaven. Going to be flat and that's that. Vinyl top took a big flop. That's it, time to quit. Going to be squished and all of the "A" body faithful along with the Google Man are going to be pretty pissed.

I can't believe the effort that someone put into this car, and then they just junked it? Why? I never would have done what they did - paint it yellow, including the bumpers, but to do all of this work, the paint, the windshield, the valve covers, etc. That was a lot of money someone spent! It needed new seat covers and a headliner. What was wrong with this thing that it got junked?

And once you see a tasteless color, applied on the bumpers as well and it doesn't match the interior you know it's just a matter of time before it ends up here. It was actually a cool car and it's day. This goes the proof that if you got some disposable cash you can destroy anything. What a sad attempt.

I want to know who the people are that keep sending cars like this to the Junkyard! cars like this, and a lot of others you've shown, should never have been sent to the yard. there aren't enough of them left. if you have an old car you don't want. put a sign on it, post it online, or anything else. but DON'T SEND IT TO THE JUNKYARD!!! this is where cars go to die. the yard destroys half the good parts. then maybe somebody buys a few other parts off it. then it gets crushed. I wish I had the ability to start my own yard. I'd save every car possible. this has to stop. we're running out of decent cars. I don't care if they're dented or rusted. make it run and drive it. don't let them get crushed!!!

These cars aren't particularly valuable which is the only reason old cars are saved because they're valuable and they aren't particularly desirable I see crappy smog malaise era cars by me for $1500 to $2000 all the time because yeah they're running and driving vehicles but it's not desirable like a performance era 60s car which cost 3 kidneys also if you own the junkyard and saved every car you would go bankrupt crushing cars for scrap metal money is what keeps junkyards alive

Hey, I noticed this car has Texas plates. I live in Texas and I am looking for a 68 to 76 Olds 350 engine since the ones in those years were the best. They had all the good stuff that would make up an Olds engine. Where is it located? Thank You.

Damn.with a little work, that thing would drive out of there. Texas was what the plate looked to be saying. Too bad I'm in Pennsylvania. I'm not a fan of the color, but a car is a car. If someone fixes it, good. One more car to piss off the environmentalists. Lol
