    I've seen people carve with knives, chisels, dremels, axes, chainsaws, but i never thought of a bandsaw. Seems you do it all and any sort of size or subject or material.
    I'm 66 and wanted some passion to fill the missing creativity and adventure my spirit and life had once had but lost and now craves to return. I've been living in social security hell and no one will hire an elder man much less let him do something interesting.
    So I've just ordered some beginner tools, gloves and basic wood to start on in my tiny public housing apartment. I've subscribed to UA-cam channels good for me to learn from, small figures to learn basics from. I admit I'll never be you for what you know is vast as those Viking seas beyond me and I might in a year be a solo swallow landing on you workshop roof to see the thing you are doing. My great respect for you craft and skills.

      Thks for your support yes a band saw saves a lot of time during roughing process but takes some practice best whishes on your new journey take your time in beginning over time you will pick up speed try to better yourself with each pc etc.

      @@Woodcarving_Master I understand. I've learned many different things so far and patience, observation and mentors are good. Golf is the only one I couldn't master. You are one of my instructors so I should be fine with time. You're inspiring I know you know. Thank you.

      Thks for your support.🙏..yes historicaly..the horns on helmuts were not very authentic...either had nothing at all or maybe a chieften or high rank had the wings...plus from artistic perspective wings add a nice decorative look
      Native black cherry is wood hard but carves crisp with sharp tools one of my favorite woods

    Thanks, Christopher nice work. I have been wanting to carve cherry. But was worried it would be too hard. I had looked up the janka hardness a while back and it was something like 2,300. That was brazilian cherry. I did not realize that black cherry had a janka hardness of only 950. That explains the carving that have been able to been done on Chippendale furniture. I'ts time to give black cherry a go a carving.

I have heard it said that most artists when making the human face tend to make it look like themselves without even meaning to. This Viking if you look at his eyes, nose, shape of the face, looks like you. The wood spirit you did that was a whole tree also looked like you. Nothing wrong, just interesting. The bottom line Chris is that you are an incredibly talented man with no calves, lol

    As a native/indigenous person it is very offensive when Euro blooded folks make comments saying that either the Vikings or the mass murderer/rapist Christopher Columbus discovered Amerikkka. We natives have been on this soil for many millennia. Historians are incorrect to say that because we were already here. We native people have suffered greatly from European colonization and erasure attempts. Yet, we are still here. Know the real history!

    • @Woodcarving_Master
      @Woodcarving_Master  2 роки тому

      Your right you were..but dont take it out of context
      What was meant was the vikings discovered it existed for themselves as it was new to them...
      Not that they were the first there of course natives were there first...
      I Have native american heritage and I am not offended and niether should you..
      It's same as saying I discovered Ice cream for first time cuz you have never eaten it before...does not mean you invented it just means first time experiance for that person or people.
      Don't misunderstand context then call it an insult etc.

    • @kaibilbalam7151
      @kaibilbalam7151 2 роки тому

      @@Woodcarving_Master I am not taking what you said out of context. I am explaining to you that as a native to these lands the very mention of “invaders” most notably Christopher Columbus is offensive. Were not talking about ice cream or discovering something shinny and new, were talking about stolen land, broken treaties and attempted genocide of my people. If you in fact have native heritage that is of any worth to you, im asking you to think of this next time. Of course, you can do as you wish. I am a native wood carver in a white dominated industry. I see the lack of cosideration for us. Maybe because we don’t have a large enough voice and i hope to change that. You are an amzing artist and thats a fact. This is a simple message to you that my people are still fighting from north to south and we are fighting for our land, for our water, for the right to exsist. There were many other cultures that came before Europeans such as African cultures who never claimed to discover anything because we were already here. In this context, the word “discovered” is incorrect. Take care

      It's art...my Art! and the customer was very happy with it thats what matters ..not you or what you think!...I have artist license to portray and glorify as I see fit ...there is no rule anywhere that says I can stylize a viking headress in a cool way...I have norwegian heritage as well and not offended by it and niether should you dippy!! I AGREE that not every grunt viking had a fancy Helmut but a significant king or chieftain very well could of of course it would be rotted away after being buried for 1000 plus years...but there's no photographs from the period I feel bad for an uptight moran like you..its art for art sake not historic accuracy sake
