I finally get to talk about this film. I was able to see it MONTHS before the release and was not allowed to talk about it. Here are my thoughts on the new Alex Garland film.

Hi Aaron,
I've seen Civil War 3 Times, twice in IMAX(gigantic screen, not fake IMAX) and once in Dolby Cinema.
It's my #2 greatest experience in a cinema this year 2024(#1 is dune part 2, and #3 is Abigail)
Aaron, here's my take -
1. The Film is almost completely Ambiguous on purpose, it's literally Cluedo in Film Format..
2. We have 3 Factions, The Western Forces, The Florida Alliance and the Loyalist States.
3. The Western Forces Suffer a Major Blow(said by the president) and lose many of the states on that map on the screen in the beginning with Kirsten Dunst.
4. Part of the Reason (from what we know in the film) for the Start of the Civil War is because the President has Forced a 3rd term, he has disbanded the FBI and he has dropped bombs on American Citizens. Before that 3rd term, there's probably more things but we don't know.
5. Jesse Plemons' character seems to be from the Loyalist States Faction, he doesn't seem to be a Racist but he does seem to be an American Nationalist.(he doesn't execute Wagner Mouras Character immediately when he says he's from Florida, even though Wagner Mouras Character isn't Caucasian, also the the grave is full of all different races)
6. More Ambiguity of the film, Cailee Spaenys' character, she mentions "the Antifa Massacre" was it a Massacre of Antifa? Or a Massacre by Antifa?
7. The Press aspect was(in Wagner Mouras Character case) to get a final story and interview before the president is killed and (in Kirsten Dunsts' character case) photos to, I guess to try to turn this thing around. (She mentions every time she took horrific photos, she thought she could avert the impending crisis at hand)
8. Then we have the Technical design of the film, sight and sound, it was absolutely stunning IMAX. The Sweeping Vistas of America on the Gigantic IMAX. The Battles were Insane, Super loud sounds coming from the Front, Side, and Rear of the Auditorium, Helicopters Flying Overhead, Cars Speeding Fast, Super loud impact of each gunshot.
9. The Final Battle was such a Sensory Experience, Soldiers Positioning themselves on Rooftops as the IMAX Shots of Washington D. C. and it's Landmarks serve as the Backdrop, and Orange & Yellow Gunfire Lines are Visually Seen through the Dark Night Sky.
Aaron, Not enough people have seen the film for it to have a massive impact on the American election. So that's not really a problem. But from a Filmaking perspective, it's such an excellent take on a war film, we've seen hundreds war films with cookie cutter Plotlines hundreds of times, just the same thing over and over again.
Anyway I understand if this film Just didn't work for you.
Really enjoyed Civil War. Quickly got involved with the main characters, and was fascinated with their often shocking and emotional journey throughout. Will be picking up the 4k when it's released.

If you don’t understand why independent journalists embed with the military it might be why this movie didn’t appeal to you.

Hey Aaron. I absolutely agree with you ! The movie was garbage. To much music and not enough dialog. Most of the time I thought I was watching a 1980s MTV video! I'm a independent voter, yet even I recognize a scared tactic movie warning us, " if you vote for Trump, this is what will happen to our country ! No need for this movie. Especially in the fragile time we are living in.

After having seen the trailer I expected a dark future film about what would happen if a president like Trump succeeds in further splitting and radicalizing the nation. Although I am interested in war photography this film

@@myreview-aaronfischer I was busy before, so I'll try to make my point rn. It's a movie about losing democracy, about how death and misery caused by politically opposed points of view lead us all to a break in society. It's about how voting for office guys who promote "we vs them", "division" or "walls" in a (or many) country it's a bad ideia. It's about the more we see death and disasters and hungry, the less we seem to care. It's about losing our humanity. It's about NOT GETTING TO THAT POINT these people in the movie are. I like Arron but the fact that he’s telling everyone to watch rebel moon (which is one of the worst films I’ve ever seen) and then says Civil War is a bad film, has me confused. If Snyder made Civil War he’d be all over it.
