I have total respect for your views Olly - it was not a rant or a waste of time, or boring. It was nine minutes of unscripted complete common sense. You are an extremely intelligent and talented farmer and people need to wake up to your sensible thoughts and suggestions. 😊👏👍🚜
Hi Ollie, If farmers want to protest it might be worth it for them to each buy a couple of shares of the big supermarkets and then turn up en masse at their annual shareholders meetings. They would surely make the news and the public wouldn't be affected. Cheers, Gavin
Well said Olly. I’m not a Farmer but have seen the change in the tide with lobbying MP’s through the years. People quickly loose their patience with protests - look at the Just Stop Oil protesters. Initially they had people on their side but once the protests started stopping ‘ normal life’ they soon lost their way. Persuasive Pressure works.
Your videos are never boring Olly especially when you tell it like it is. Common sense is a priceless commodity these day and you have it by the bucket full ! 👌👍.
The Welsh situation is really bad as the Welsh Government have no real understanding of food production or sympathy for farmers and are soley focused on environmental issues. Combine this with their naivety regarding the TB policy in Wales, the extended NVZ's and you can see why there is such frustration in the Welsh farming community. 90% today - another great video and your observation about protesting/explaining using the media rather than a tractor is spot on - keep the public onside.
Olly, you are bang on the money about social media and using it as a tool. I'm not involved in farming at all, almost everyting I now know about it is because of you and your channels. Blocking the roads will only do harm to your cause but getting the public behind you on social media could make a massive difference.
Good points well made. Target the supermarkets not the public. We need the public behind us & don't want to become the subject of hate like 'just stop... etc'
Hello Oli, I read some of the comments on the forum , I was discussed by some of the comments, everyone is entitled to an opinion but when it got personal they were well out of order, all the best Robin
Completely agree with you, and people should take time, take stock and think long about responses. Shooting yourself in the foot is easy when your not looking at the target.... hats off to you for all your hard work, I honestly cannot fathom where you get the time from...
I am not a farmer, but i can only say, I have heard more common sense from you in the last ten minutes than a weeks worth of waffle from politicians. You are so right that social media has way more influence than direct protest. Keep doing what you are doing, it's worth it's weight in gold! Good luck and good health to you and your family.
Good Rant boss, unfortunately this is the downside of UA-cam popularity I’m afraid, whether you like it or not, you are now one of the faces of Agriculture in this country, and people want to know your opinion, all you can do is what you’re doing. Keep up the great work Olly 👍🏻🍻
Common sense and honest view Olly, I for one have learned so much about the real problems farmers encounter on a DAILY basis and all from watching your videos. You explain it all in plain English. Keep it up!!
Hi Ollie. One of the best speeches Iv heard in a long time, keep going with you directions and thoughts as it makes total sense to us non farmers. Well done 👍
Super markets must be the focus . You hit their profits and they will listen . Socal media can also get the message out but maybe explaining the poorer condition of the food coming in to the country . Most homes if they knew wouldn’t buy it . People must think if the supermarket sells it it must be ok .
Good point, to be honest at the risk of upsetting some it's time they subsidised growing local food and more proper mixed farming, ie cattle sheep, arable and veg, and fruit, which would in turn improve soil health instead of wasting public money on renewable energy
@@richardmatthews3304 absolutely. They could also hugley increase food security here by subsidising and re-opening the fertiliser factory down the road from Olly.
Olly you are definitely right with social media it is very powerful tool a comment on that will reach 10x more people favourably than sitting in your tractor angering people
You are spot on with your views. They shoukd use there time snd energy and shout in the right direction. I think most of the protestors are just jumping on to what is happening abroad. Im 85% today and would love you to tell us how you are every day too so we can make sure your ok too 👍
Great video Olly and you are right about blocking the roads if you remember years ago the farmers, had the same problem and we targeted the distribution depots, off said supermarket and blocked them peacefully, and that worked and random ones and we got loads, off publicity and it didn’t affect Joe Public 👏👏👍👍
Olly, hopefully you did fish the old valve core out of the mini merlo tyre, I’ve known a small stone to be left inside a tyre and it completely destroys the inside layer of canvas and creates a multitude of punctures
Well said Olly. I agree something needs to be done my only worry is we have the people behind us but how long will it last once the supermarkets are empty of food shelves empty. And Yes I'm in farming all my life. Great video and it's certainly not a boring video
Great video. You are 100% correct on what you said. Protesting by hindering the public is not the way to go, it only alienates them and turns them against you. Social media is a powerful tool now if used correctly and the best way to educate people about the problems
Olly, I completely concur and agree. Building understanding, agreement, concurrence with the wider public is the way to go. Who, ever, persuaded anyone about anything by slapping them in the face with a wet fish? Nobody ever. Communicating, building solidarity, diligently persuading, seeking the consent of the 'silent majority' over time is the way to construct the future. You are a very practical person, not political, not ideological, 'what you see is what you get'. Communication is Key. You will succeed without pissing people orf. Like you say, we, the food eating public, can be brought on board. I so respect your insightful, balanced and thoughtful take on the challenges we, either as consumers or farmers, face. Better than Clarkson, imho. You explain situations objectively, quite impartially and very much practically. Sound as a pound.
I went to a sfi meeting last week. Came out with a headache but there was positive from the meeting. I am with you on not protecting . we are getting a better deal .
I’m not a farmer but I 100% agree with your shaming the worst supermarkets and getting our (as in non farmers) support to stop shopping at them that’s the only way it will change they have to pay u more for the product u all produce. Great video olly thank u for educating us all.
Well said Olly,I am not a farmer but have friends in that sector so understand quite a bit of what is happening. I agree with you 100% over using social media as a platform to gain the public support,it does work in other areas so yes farming and agriculture use it first.
Boring video, I think not! Doesn't matter where in the world you are a farmer your advice is spot on, I hope people listen! It makes very good sense what you are saying!
Hello Olly, having worked in horticulture the majority of my working life as a grower I am fully behind your comments we all work very hard long hours in an industry we love. Keep up the good work we all do an excellent job
Well said Olly, I am from Northern Ireland, if living here for half a century has taught me anything it’s if your going to call people into the streets to protest, you need to have an achievable and measurable objective otherwise the protests will quickly become unpopular with the general public. You also have to take responsibility for everything that happens during that protest which is difficult to control and often attracts extreme factions. We have got issues in agriculture at the moment but they are not on the same scale as European farmers yet. We do have devolved governments who are free to tweak our farm payments to suit each region without interference from the EU. It’s up to us to make sure our political representatives are constantly scrutinised and held to account by our farming leaders. That only happens when public opinion is on your side and the media organisations support your argument. Social media and positivity can achieve alot. If you want to see what protests on the streets achieve, just look at the last 50 years here!
Well said olly I’m with you on this we don’t need to take to the roads a pee the public off get them on board and we can hopefully make a change as a country
Your video isn't boring Ollie. It's true life. It's your life. It's farming life and as one of the Joe public I'm 100% in agreement with your views and support British farming whole heartedly. Take care. I'm 90% today. 🏴❤️
Spot on Olly your rants are some of the best content sometimes. As you know I am not a famer but suppoet farmers 100%. Its great to hear your exploring options to put pressure on the supermarkets where necessary. The social media/influencer edge is probably more effective than most of us have concidered. It could just work out to be the most effective tool in the box 👍
It’s good way of explaining/expressing your opinion/thoughts, possibly a better way of protesting, it sad to think that we were self sufficient many years ago, before supermarkets took over the power of shoppers, now hold the world to ransom, feeling 80% as my father home from latest hospital stay, and I going for my new knee replacement surgery in two weeks time, so not binge watching but everyday instead
Absolutely 100% agree Olly, direct action is not the way forward, that sort of action reminds me of 1984 and the miners and we all know how well that went, keep up the good work Olly you are doing a great job.
As usual Olly, you Intelligence, Insight and passion for farming shine. Hopefully the numpties in Londonland will take note of your comments and make some sensible decisions for a change! Thanks.
My little boy is 8 and has grown up knowing that if we don’t have farmers we won’t have food. But there’s also a lot of other kids his age that don’t understand that. So I think we need to do something asap to make people and kids aware because one day soon we will be hoping that the kids have grown up and understand.
Wise words Ollie the key being keeping the public on side. If they can realise and see benefits in social media campaigns supporting farmers and get supermarkets to pay fair prices to farmer and reduce there profit margins everyone wins. NO FARMERS NO FOOD HUNGRY COUNTRY
Morning Olly, you are spot on with your views on protesting. Without public support it will not work and could even backfire as spectacularly as JSO has with the public. Blocking roads etc would be the last, last, last resort, the anger farmers receive just by moving machinery by some of the public is digesting, let alone when they realise you'd be doing it on purpose. Running a boycott campaign would be superb 👍
Hopefully a little of what you have said will sink in and prevent a protest that will just piss off the very people that farmers need on their side. I agree 100% with your comments, it certainly is not waffle. There is a lot wrong with the social media monster but, in this case, it is exactly the platform to use.
Spot on! We live in a democracy, lets use it to our advantage, eventually politicians will listen and legislation will be brought in, its going to take time but with a fraigle environment and many more mouths decisions have to be thought out very carefully!👍👍
Great video, your point of view makes sense to this none agricultural neighbour. Name the supermarkets concerned and I’ll do my level best to support British / English agriculture.
Makes sense fella, this is the start of the campaign and not the time to block the roads that will come later but hope not, the supermarkets have got a lot to answer to and need to play fair, after all a lot of them say they are fair trade !
85% today so feeling okay. 100% agree with your comments loose the public loose the fight and nothing will annoy the wider public than holding up peoples lives such as insulate Britain or just stop oil movements but a campaign on mainstream social media to explain in plain language the rural point of view will get/keep more people onside rather than French style rabble rousing
Watching dragons den this week and Peter Jones commented that the mark-up going into supermarkets is 70-80% otherwise they don't bother. This is the issue that government needs to address but to many of them are on the boards.
i think i've heard that the owners of some supermarkets give financial donations to the conservative party and labour party.......it's all a bit corrupt really

I really appreciate and agree with what you said
So, so well said Olly - with an abundance of passion and logic - in my view, and I'm not a farmer, you are spot on!!
Totally agree, a well reasoned response 👍👍
Thank you
Thanks, olly, for the clarification. It did make sense, it's really the same approach needed for many years of educating the public
Hi Ollie,
If farmers want to protest it might be worth it for them to each buy a couple of shares of the big supermarkets and then turn up en masse at their annual shareholders meetings. They would surely make the news and the public wouldn't be affected.
Cheers,
Gavin
What a brilliant idea
I'll keep it short Olly, spot on 👍
That was six and a half minutes of complete common sense.
I ABSOLUTELY agree, well said Olly!!

Your approach to campaigning is spot on Ollie 💯👌🏻💪🏻
It's not waffle when it's reasoned, logical, informative and sensible. 100% agree with you!
From a non-farmer just across the river.
Olly , brilliantly put and very well said . I’ve never met ya , but by god I’d love to sit n have chat . Thank you
Olly, you are bang on the money about social media and using it as a tool. I'm not involved in farming at all, almost everyting I now know about it is because of you and your channels. We’re not farmers - you delivered an excellent video 👏🙏🏻
Olly - YOU speak so much sense.
Hope people (farmers) listen
Get the public onside!

Farmers need to win the hearts and minds of the public. And through channels like yours they can make a huge impact
Spot on, your bang on the mark I feel. Thank you.
Politicians do NOT want cheap food. If they did they would subsidise growing food, not flowers. They would also be ensuring food security!

You are absolutely correct on the public support and protests. Brilliantly put and on the nail.

I completely agree with you we need the public as our friend not foe as there spending helps to keep us in business
Some very wise words especially around keeping the public onside.
Not boring, good content we need more people like you who put things plain and simple
Olly, hopefully you did fish the old valve core out of the mini merlo tyre, I’ve known a small stone to be left inside a tyre and it completely destroys the inside layer of canvas and creates a multitude of punctures

a good rant ollie----- and it was actually good sense as well
