    The Barnardos advert had nothing to do with dyslexia or drugs, it was about the lifelong consequences of child abuse with this ad being an example of what many have been through.
    Unfortunately this happens all over the world. I can’t believe people would complain about something that needs to be so clearly highlighted. Shame on those who made the complaints.

      Me neither. Most of them sort of tell you what the adverts complaints were too so you can work out why it is controversial and what the message is. Like with the Marie stopes one saying that the complaints were that it promotes abortion. It’s pretty clear then what the advert is

      @@OutnumberedbykidsandcatsThey do lots of medical issues for women, including finding out if the woman is being forced to have termination and protection choices. It's the same for most folk outside Europe. There's just something different about the culture. The ads here are much more arty and creative and challenge the viewer. They're not used to it.
      Edit: actually, it's not just Europe. There's something about American culture and capitalism that means they just don't care as much. Plenty of other places do it good, like Aus/NZ

    It seems ridiculous to me as someone in the UK, that a few hundred or even a couple of thousand complaints is enough to get an advert taken off the air. There are something like 26 million households in the UK, with a population of about 68 million. If you say there were 2,000 complaints, that represents just 0.0077 percent of households. And that is for the most complained about advert!

    They never wanted to ban aerosols. It's the chemicals used in most spray's, namely fluorocarbon's also knows as CFC. That was because it was harming the ozone layer. CFC's were banned and are still banned. Aerosols now use other gases.

    The CO2 ad is about making you think about the World around you and the consequences of your day to day actions. It is never intended to say you must do this or must do that. It's making you engage in a subject that is going to be around for a long time, hence telling the story to a child and will be living through it throughout her life. Your reaction, may I say, is what I would typically expect from an American. Laughing at it, not looking beyond the message and also trying to work out what I should go and buy to make it better. Also all through the Barnado's ad and this he seems to be expecting a happy joyful time with the broad smile. Some advertisement's are about serious subjects and try to make you think about the subject of the ad, not what to buy.

    The US was one of the few countries that refused to join the agreement for less factory / industry pollution. While billions of households can make a difference (public transport/car pooling, turning lights off when not in the room, only heating or cooling necessary areas etc) businesses definitely need to do more and governments like the US and China need to control them with sanctions and laws. You needs to vote local someone who will bring these things to congress and vote national those who will pass the laws.

    I haven't put heating on in over a decade. Yeah, I've had to wear thermals and like 4 layers but that's still cheaper than trying to heat a room. The "British" government DGAF about anyone outside London

    • @mrkiplingreallywasanexceed8311
      @mrkiplingreallywasanexceed8311 Місяць тому

      Trust me, they DGAF about anyone inside it either. I admire your "heating hardiness" - I made that decision November 2022. Russians had switched off the gas by then and so it was GUARANTEED prices not only would rise, but by a disproportionate amount because everyone always overreacts. Although living in a 70s tower block had its drawbacks, poorly fitting, warped, 50 year old single glazing being amongst them, conversely, having people above and below you is also quite insulating... Don't get me wrong, it was still freezing, but if anything, I almost enjoyed that because I felt I was also sharing some of the privations of the poor put upon Ukrainians whose energy infrastructure was getting absolutely pounded and who were likely having a fairly miserable winter. I felt solidarity with them - as well as gaining enjoyment from seeing my energy bills going DOWN even as everyone was moaning and groaning about the spiralling costs ... As you said, with some extra clothes, it was entirely do-able - so repeated it this winter. Since I moved to a flat my brother owns and it has a combi boiler, he asked me to run it occasionally even for just a short burst in order to keep it circulating but I more or less did the same this year. I also sit with only one bulb on - use the oven 2 or 3 times a week only, don't have radios and TV's on - just watch what I watch on my phone - don't have partners or kids to consider with all their devices to charge and
      wandering around leaving lights on - plus their showering and wanting the place like a sauna. ..I even make sure the freezer door is only open for a few seconds. In short, my gas is a tenner month and my leccy is thirty five😎

As far as driving their cars less, I have just this minute watched a YT clip about the design of housing schemes and shopping in USA. Apparently there are about four parking spaces for each car. Nobody walks anywhere over there and if someone is walking, it's probably a cause of concern for all the people that drive past. In the olden days in UK, we were forbidden to hang washing on a line stretching across the streets and maybe in the front garden, or on a Sunday. (CO2) It’s an ongoing problem so the father couldn’t answer her. EVERYONE contributes - if we all cut back, recycle and companies found alternatives then we could make a difference. We ALL have to do our bit. E.G driving 2 mins down the road when you can walk is unnecessary. Switch appliances off when not using them. Laws to make companies use environmentally friendly ways to produce their products and not produce so much non-recyclable plastic.

    Typical American response to not using aerosols. Not in my back yard. Ignorance beyond comprehension.

    Hard to believe people took the time to complain about these adverts, especially since the world went woke. Can't stand people speaking with their mouths full so glad to see the KFC at #1. Still wouldn't complain about it!

    You've missed the message about CO2. It's about personal wastage . We in the Free World . Most of Europe have been, instrumental in reducing CO'2 consumption.
