I just got diagnosed with type 2 diabetes 2 weeks ago when the doctor told me I had it. I was crying I was now my life has changed forever, but it’s fine. I will stay positive eat right and exercise and make sure I check my blood sugar levels 4 times a day. For all the diabetic people out there you’re not alone stay positive and keep your head up 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾

Ghost - I am not the author of this video, but, I’ve been Type 1 for 40 years. No complications so far. I’ve had some pretty bad scares with DKA, but overall have monitored my BS (pun intended) very closely. The key is to know your boundaries and keep everything within check. Exercise, watch your carb intake and stay vigilant to blood sugars (BS). It sucks, totally sucks, but it is doable. Wish you well.
This is so so so upsetting. Not because he is diabetic but because if you really really stop and think about it half the T1D community does not get diabetes supplies. 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 People just think wow maybe you should eat less marsh mellows or less butter fingers. I have had type one for 2 years and it has changed my life sometimes I feel upset or different but this video makes me feel happy because I can relate to it so much and reading all the comments just make me feel a lot better about myself.
I was diagnosed with type one on july 9 2013 after two seizures I was in a coma for two days my blood sugar was over 1300 I was told how lucky I was to be alive by the great staff at st rose hospital in las vegas nv I have a new appreciiation for life and I am truly happy I was able to come back from a horrible tragedy and share it
I got diagnosed with type 1 about three months ago at the age of 15 right after my birthday and so far it has gone very well with my first average blood sugar test at the hospital being about 6 mmol, i am so grateful for the Norwegian hospitals that made it so that us with diabetes get free sensors every two weeks and insulin. I will keep on living with diabetes and try to live a normal life despite my sickness, and pray that there will be a cure as soon as possible!
I know exactly how you feel. I was diagnosed just after my 6th birthday and it's been almost 12 years now. I hate having it but I guess I just have to get over it. Hopefully they'll find a cure soon but we have to remain positive until then. Thank you so much for sharing your story :)
@@byrasulovI agree. Amazing a "cure" for covid in a 6 months, but nothing for diabetes all these years. Lost grandma, 2 uncles to diabetes my dad struggles with it. I keep myself checked.
I have been type 1 for 33 years, have an 3 month average blood sugar of 127. I travel for my job 95% of the year and eat out every meal. It is all about choices and moderation and mixed with walking and light exercise. My weight is good my doctors(retired two at the place I go to) have all thought I was a bit thin for my height 6 foot and about 180 lbs. Couple of great things I appreciate: long acting insulin(balance), continuous glucose monitor(trends), insulin pens(easy to travel).
I feel the same. Like if you take something out in class everyone will stare at you or ask what are you doing, when all you want to do is fix yourself.
Thank you for sharing your story Sam. My son is 16 and was diagnosed 1.5 years ago. It's been a great stress on our family and I worry all the time for Carter. I believe awareness is key. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

At least that is what I went through and furthermore if a doctor ever says something like that they will probably die in prison.
You're handling it well! I was diagnosed when I was 1 and I'm now 13. I've had a few collapses (where I go seriously low) but now I got a brand new pump and I'm managing it better.
Sam you look good here, hope you are still doing well. I wasDiagnosed at 17, 43 now. The first 13 years were a disaster but I turned it around big time. It's still rough but being a type 1 made me stronger than I would have been otherwise.
@@eleanorepell7842 I had symptoms of it going high about 3 years before diagnosis. Would feel tired and fall asleep in class. Hard time waking up. Couldn't focus at all. It was hard because I was being accused by school teachers of being on drugs and I wasn't! I had two lows when I was a child but they came and went.
I’ve been diabetic for 19 years. I went through something called diabetic distress and went into a 14 A1C level. I was in a very dark place and felt really alone. This is just a message to anyone reading I’m now at a 7.4 a1c and it does get easier find someone that can help and push you in the right direction
I was diagnosed with type 1 roughly 5 months ago after almost losing my life in the hospital. I take 4 shots of insulin a day and have made major changes to my lifestyle. Still learning how to make it work. I quickly learned that the type community really sticks together. Good luck to everyone
Marvellous man. It’s a struggle just the same for me. I inject four times a day and I find it incredibly hard to get to a happy medium with my sugars especially when I’m quite active. The heat is tremendously hard to deal with but also during the cold weather, I struggle to stay at a suitable result. Up’s and down’s 😟. My heart goes out to those with type 1 diabetes like myself. Inspiring video mate, keep your sugars stable my friend.
I totally understand you, Sam. ☺ To see the way we live daily is viewed as "gloomy". Truth is....it is. People think we get easily drunk, are lazy, like to "eat" abruptly , helpless, negative. We just view our beginning of each day as "a job" we didn't apply for. We gotta do, but we need more plans (as Sam said) to take place. Serious, yet comfortable is what we have to be. It is a hectic way to live. Sadly. We just make it interesting & worthy to teach others to be grateful for the small things in life taken for granted.....Thanks Sam.
You're not alone! Other Type 1 Diabetics know what you're dealing with. I, along with the others, are here for you. Cheer up guys! We should not let Diabetes control our lives. Apparently everyone needs to eat healthy and control their food portions, so what we have is not a 'disadvantage', we just need to be more careful than others without Diabetes.
I do a decent job of managing my diabetes but my life can be pretty disorganized and it's hard to manage around my friends and coworkers sometimes. I never minded the shots and pricks so much but the worst part is the constant worry and feeling like I can't have freedom and peace of mind like everyone else around me. I understand it's a lifelong disease and that I need to see the positives and embrace it but I've had the disease for 10 years now and I just feel down sometimes that I can't always be there for my friends and loved ones. Also feel like the disease forces me to live a somewhat limited lifestyle and they probably don't really understand why
Totally agree with you there I'm living the same life it's so difficult always thinking yh can I go do that tho what if I have a bad hypo these people dnt no what to do ect ect I'm so depressed with it all I've had it 13 yrs now it sucks
Morgan Gilmore hi my bf recently (like few hours ago) just got diagnosed w T1 diabetes. Do you have any advice? He’s handling the news pretty bad. He is super worried and scared. And I dont know what to do beside just beijg there for him.
Bored In the House when I first was diagnosed, my mom and I went to McDonalds and I remembered thinking, damn this is the last time I’ll ever be allowed to eat something like this.. it actually promoted healthy lifestyle changes for me. Soon I figured out that you can still eat anything you want it’s just a matter of calculating carbs and taking the right amount of insulin
I was diagnosed as type 1 diabetes in 2013,at that time I was running half marathons and weighing 9.5. it's so unfair that people think I've brought this on myself. the diabetic nurse said it shouldn't even be called the same as type 2 because it can't be helped. my grandad had it years before I was born, now even though I'm married I feel no one understands how serious it is and how it effects you. Well done for doing this video.
I few weeks ago I was diagnosed and it’s been pretty hard but I’ve put on a glucose monitor and it’s so much more easy, and thank you this was a nice video

my cousin has type one diabetes. she’s 13 years old. going into 8th grade. I don’t know anything about diabetes and never have. right now, she’s in the hospital in a diabetic coma. the doctors think she’s brain dead and will not survive. she has so much time left, she hasn’t even made it through middle school. if anyone has experience with this, it would be amazing if you could tell me what happened. I’m not religious, but if you are, our family is asking for prayers.
Type 1 for a month now. I was diagnosed through DKA and had to spend 3 days and 3 nights in hospital to recover. At first I was blood testing 6 times a day but now that I'm getting my freestyle libre I'm only really pricking once a day in the morning (unless I feel ill, which I did due to food poisoning recently, tested 6 times in an hour lol). As for insulin injections, I do 4 a day and I used to suck at it, taking like 20 mins to do a single shot. Now it takes 2 mins tops. I've also gained back the stone of weight that I lost from DKA. Things are looking up, blood sugars are healthy, averaging 6-7 mmol/L. Ketones finally at 0.0!! :) And I'm getting the freestyle libre :D
@Noob man It sucks. I was 16, going on 17 when I got the betes. Now I'm 20. Even though I can remember a time before this illness, I can't imagine a life without it. It becomes second nature.

@@fatetaker4507 I'm grateful for that. It would've been tough on my mum having to manage my diabetes while working full-time and raising the rest of the family. Not to mention tough for myself. My dad is type 1 he learnt to know his body , what he could eat/drink and when . Ate what he wanted .he was very and always been very controlled until in his 60s after a heart attack and bypass surgery
@OUlearn I have experienced everything you have except the people in my life were very curious and nice about it! I was diagnosed at 5 years old and am now 20. I had a best friend that was with me at a young age well when i was in 8th grade he magically got type one diabetes too! We now watch out for each other and almost everyone in my public school system is educated on the subject, students and teachers alike. They are very understanding!
I am a type one survivor since I was 6 years old diagnosed after the gulf war and being a citizen of an occupied country now I am 37 years old and a father of 2 lovely girls which are the source of my pride and joy. Try to be thankful for what you have at least you have two caring parents which unfortunately I never had being the son of a narcissistic father who controls his wife but that didn't stop me from rising and being who I should be as a human being not to mention the challenges of life and how mean and evil some people can be, my sickness to me is not a reason to stand down and stop fighting day in and day out. This is the pure meaning of life to survive and to overpower others around use what made you weak as a source to derive your strength and cut on drinking as it has no benefits what so ever I lived in the UK for a year and I know life there can be very hard and harsh but your mental and physical health should not be damaged or taken by your own will stand tall and fight to everyone out there fight for what is right!!
Yes it is expensive to maintain yourself, and there usually is no support for adults to maintain the pump. As i have seen from my friends, the pump does not change anything. As i see it it actually constricts you. With the pump you are always attached to a device. Me myself 12 years of diabetes prefer the PEN's.
I remember my first two weeks. Best thing I can suggest it making sure you dont repress your emotions. In the end those have been what is worst about diabetes. I have had it for three years now
Sam thank you so much for sharing your story. I am type 1 diabetic which I got at the age of 34 but over the last 7 weeks I have found a whole food product called F21 which blocks sugar from being absorbed into our bodies. I have been able to reduce my fast acting insulin by almost 70% which sounds like what you are trying to do. Again, thank you for sharing I am sure you have helped a lot of people with your story. Keep up the great work!
I had a seizure in religious education class. The teacher said I was lying about being low. I was 10, had diabetes for 2 years. I flipped off the back of the chair and had a grand mal seizure in class, I was so badly bullied for it tjat i had to stop going yo school and eventually needed to change schools. I never got any apologies.
This month (July 2023) I have had type 1 diabetes for 40 years. I was diagnosed at age 12 in 1983. So far, my diabetes is still considered "uncomplicated". Eye health and kidney health are both still as they should be. What this video (and most people) fail to mention is that there is ALWAYS depression with chronic illnesses, without exception, 100% of the time. In time, the depression will need to be treated too. Also, diabetes is an "invisible disease" most of the time, so in addition to people who care trying to police what they see you eat (when they should mind their own business), there are also people who think you are pretending to be ill when you are not. Most of the time if you need hospitalization for any reason, the medical staff knows next to nothing about diabetes management -- so demand an endocrinologist for extended hospital stays if they prevent you from caring for your diabetes yourself.
I have just completed a DAFNE course & am on an insulin pump now, but what DAFNE does teach you is that you can live a normal life & eat when you like & skip meals if you like, just the same as people without diabetes would, as all we T1's are doing either through MDI or pump is the same as what a person without diabetes would do naturally through there pancreas/liver

I had type1 diabetes since age 8 yrs old and now after 30 yrs and I am a working mum to three children well settled and highly trained professional. As long as you never miss insulin right dosage and know to manage your hypos its doesnt affect your life and career. You have to put your health your priority and be straight in school or at work about your medical condition and have no shame instead have pride that you can manage this challenge. Keep yourself fit through exercise and always have zero sugar in your diet and low carbs. Best option eat little but at 2 hrs of difference and test atleast 5 times a day. CGM with insulin pump is the best tool you can have for second by second glucose monitoring Always aim at HBA1c less than 6.9. Alhamdullah it s Allah who helps us all
I was diagnosed at an early age too, 9 years old, and I've lived with diabetes now for 22 years. People that make fun of you aren't good people. Being a diabetic makes you mature faster than others, so just know that even though it's not fair, you are more grown up than they are. They don't have the courage that we diabetics have to test our blood sugars and inject insulin everyday. We aren't different from anyone else because of diabetes, it just makes us diabetics unique.
I recall (also as a Type 1) someone calling me out saying ‘he looks like a diabetic’. Correct, I thought. And you are evidently a detective. It’s very tiresome, but you keep our spirits up, I hope you are well to this day.

I've been T1 since 1985. Been on a pump since the early 1990s and a CGM since 2018. My CGM has been life changing, but I also know this condition sucks.
I have type one diabetes and I've had it since i was 10, i use carbohydrate counting to work out my insulin too, everything you have explained I've been through hah, it's a shame really that people aren't educated enough and aware of peoples medical conditions.
I was told I am type 1 diabetic when I was 18 and now 32, the dr said I am not type 1, I'm type 2 diabetic as my antibody test was negative. Why did they decide to check a antibody test after 13 years? Because I wanted the libra flash monitoring and they now came to realisation that I need to get a test to confirm if I am type 1 or not, absolutely pathetic.
Me to I was all pale and I just wasn't hungry and I just was throwing up and I said "MOM DAD 😭 I WANT TO GO TO THE HOSPITAL" I could not stand it was hard :( and I got diagnosed when I was 9 in November and now im 10 and I might get the pump ekkkkk❤❤❤Hope you feel better!❤

I have had diabetes for a year now. I have a freestyle libre but i dont have a pump because i'm not taking enough insulin.my dose of insulin is 10.5 units a day of the long lasting and 1.5 or 2.0 units of the fast acting( I am 8 years old )
i have to disagree with you... my C-peptide was O for 47 years...i have documentation that shows i am now producing insulin and my A1c is a 6.... i was on 70 units a day... NOW 10 units a day... when i start my exercise program i believe i will be able to get off insulin all together... the only change i made a year ago was changing over to a RAW-VEGAN diet... that means NO: meat, dairy, nothing from a can, box, jar or pasteurized... only RAW: fruits, veggies, nuts and seeds... I have type 1 diabetes and I don't understand why you can't miss breakfast. I heard from many people with diabetes that we must eat minimum 3 times a day. Can someone explain why. For example I can go all day without eating. You just gove yourself 1 or 2 units of insulin on empty stomach depends on your insulin sensitivity
You can miss breakfast if you want to. You simply don't take any fast-acting insulin. The basal insulin (time release, slow acting) will cover you in the meantime.

Hey guys, I'm a type 1 diabetic in America. It seems you guys in Europe us a different number system for your blood glucose monitors.Over here a number around 100-120 is pretty much perfect. But on your monitors I see numbers like 7.6 or 11. Just curious what is considered good over there and bad. Thanks guys. P.S. No one has to answer that if they feel uncomfortable.
You guys in the US use the number in mg/dL (milligrams per deciliter) while most of the world, including us in Europe, use mmol/L (millimoles per liter) for our regular tests. The reference range for blood glucose is 80 to 120 mg/dL while it is 4.4 to 6.6 mmol/L before meals. :)
I was first diagnosed with type 2 diabetes when I was 47 years old, My doctor told me from history of blood tests and urine tests, I had type 2 diabetes all long since I was 18 years old, Turns out my type 2 diabetes is from both sides of my family, Thanks to the type 2 diabetes it messef up my vision enough for me to wear glasses
What I think a lot of people need to stop doing is judging their diabetic family or friends when they make the occasional slip up. My A1C was 13 a few years ago but I've gotten it down to 6.1 all on my own but sure enough if I go to the doctor and they tell me my i got 2 or 3 high sugars she'll be like "Jake youre not doing what yourw suppose to, you've had this since you were 2!". Even if they are right and you need to do better , nobody outside of us diabetics can understand what it's like to live with it. Not only does diabetes come with bodily health issues but it also does a lot of damage to our mental health. Living with diabetes has been one of the main sources for my anxiety and depression through out my life because at times I feel like I'm a lesser human because I'm dependent on medicine and there for weaker and not able to be strong enough for my future family and so on. I know that's not true and we are perfectly capable of being strong and normal but that's mental health for you lol

A brain hemorrhage and a stroke that comes from T1D. It is sad but it does work like that. Sometimes children are not given the proper care or treatment. Sometimes there are doctors that do not like people who are mixed with black and white. At least that is what I went through and furthermore if a doctor ever says something like that they will probably die in prison.

I am also very lucky to be able to feel my blood sugar be too low or too high.

And I'm getting the freestyle libre :D

Yes it is expensive to maintain yourself, and there usually is no support for adults to maintain the pump. As i have seen from my friends, the pump does not change anything. As i see it it actually constricts you. With the pump you are always attached to a device. Me myself 12 years of diabetes prefer the PEN's.

Ive had type 1 diabetes sense i was 7 years old im now 14 years old and it does get annoying when people ask stupid questions

Thought I had a stomach virus but it was a dka episode lasted 4 days then I was diagnosed

Hi... I have a very important question....my boyfriend was diagnosed with type 1 when he was 10 years old....his blood sugars was never fully controlled and were most often really hight. when he was about 19 he developed constant feelings of nausea that for the past 14 years have never gone away and often are so unbearable it makes his life hell.....he was checked for Gastroparesis but tests came back negative...he what then check for Rumination Syndrome and constantly checked for ketosis the doctors could not find anything...my question is...have you ever had constant never ending nausea or know of anyone that has? if so please message back. all the best xx
I sometimes have it
Did he ever has DKA before?
Bc that could cause some after effects
I have often had a runny nose and a long time! But I have a dust allergy! Runny nose can also be a constant, high acid levels in the blood and the mucous membranes caused by the drying process and may be caused by the dusty environment ... may have different effects with the result and so on. ,
It’s directly from the high sugars it might not be gastroparesis yet but the highs will slow the gastric motility severely enough to make you puke

sam.. confused by you "rubbish" comment...what are you referring to..?
i am reversing my T1 diabetes through a raw/vegan diet... i was told by doctors that my condition would only get worse... now all of my doctors are unable to explain why i only use 10 units a day, and why my c-peptide is showing that my body is producing insulin after 47 years on insulin...
i don't think doctors are well educated in nutrition...research RAW-VEGAN diet in conjunction with reversing T1.. 500 have reversed T1
It could be the A1C levels.
I guess, but it looks like a meter. Eh, whatever. Thanks.
The uk and Ireland have different units to the U.S. And I think the EU
roolmax Thanks for the reply.
Do you got any tips for me I’m also type one diabetic
I have had type 1 diabetes for 7 months
