I watched this video for my first oil and filter change in my 500. One comment you don't mention is that there are two O rings on the filter cover plate. One surrounds the large circle (~2.5 inches...whatever the diameter is) and then a little one to the right of the right bolt (front of vehicle) that's probably a half inch or so. That one fell out on me without me noticing until it was all back together...then I noticed a pretty good leak coming from the area with engine on. After referring to the owners manual I figured it out and was good as new. Now I'm twice as good at changing the oil on this machine :) Also, I recommend opening up the oil dipstick before draining the oil so there's airflow to help it drain better. Great videos though!! They've been immensely helpful!
I did forget to mention the o rings and apologize that you didn’t know about them till it was too late! This vid was one of my first so I was still getting a feel for things and often forgot I was actually filming...lol. I’m going to pin your comment so others see it and know about the o rings!
I watched this video before doing my first oil change and it really helped. Thanks ! I am getting ready to do another oil change so I watched it again. I need all of the help that I can get. LOL
You can take a 1 inch square piece of wood and cut/grind to just the right length so you can wedge it on top of oil filter cover. This holds it flush in place against the spring pressure and allows you to get the screws started easier.
Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video. My husband and I just hit 100 miles on our Honda 500 and were dreading having to take it to the dealer. Now we can do it ourselves (we hope). Thanks again.
Hey i have owned my pioneer 500 for 3 years now and still love it! You were my guide from buying to the EZ steer powersteering kit! Hope you are doing well and thanks again!!
Thks for sharing, I'm a first time own of a UTV. Really want to be a DIY on it. Ur videos are definitely helping me achieve that and save the labor costs to spend on a new accessory. 😊👍
Just did mine. Thanks for this. I did a couple of things a bit different. I put it up on 4 blocks for clearance and cut a slot in the plastic to slip the ecu through like the seatbelt. It went well
Really helped with my first oil change, thanks! Wish I had paid more attention which under seat pan you took off. (I took off driver's side first) but hey...now I am experienced at taking them both out and putting them back lol.
I have a new 2019 P5 and I see Honda recommends a valve adjustment at 100 miles or 20 hours. After researching, I see opinions greatly differ on when to do this ? I bought the extended warranty and want to keep everything in line, as much as possible. Have you thought about a video on doing this?
Just to do an oil change on a 2017 Honda Rancher 420 my local honda powersports dealer wanted $320 technically they're supposed to check the valves replace the air filter do an oil change and check all your CV boots and check all the bolts and a couple other things (i dont have the list/manual in front of me) but we all know they just do oil change and say it looks good then charge you $320 at least thats my local dealership
Ya, I never considered that I had to read the comments. The absence of any information regarding the o-rings is rather essential. I'm not sure if you're making any revenue from your videos. I did like your video. I watched it several times. The absence of any instruction or discussion regarding the o-rings ended up costing me $50 to replace the oil that leaked out of the oil filter casing and disabling my side-by-side for almost one week while waiting on the oil replacement. I hate to say it but, I'm on a limited income with this Honda being my only mode of transportation and having to buy 4 more quarts of oil was a direct result of the omission of any discussion of o-rings in your video.😢
just think if you had boise speakers with music like Nikolai rimsky song flight the bumble bee... that may pick up your enjoyment pace wrenching..... just a thought...
I have a 2017 p5 and I have changed oil 1 time I changed it at 250 hrs. But I love the machine. But the rearend in mine sounds like a rolling junk yard. But it's getting better. I have read a lot about this and I've heard that I'm not the only one with this problem! Have you had any issues with yours on the rearend?
Tommy Scruggs it's just loud. Nature of the beast. Running a little heavier oil is what must of us have done. Quiets it down a bit. The tendency for the rear brake to squeak is what gets on my nerves but I usually drown that out from my own laughing and giggling from the fun I have with it😁
AppalachianMountianRiders yes I agree. I love it. It's seems to be a tuff little ride. And like you said in another video. I wish it had a locker in the front. But other than that I can go just about anywhere my buddies can go with there big machines.
Tommy Scruggs I have been emailing a company that is working on a locker for the 500 but am still waiting to here back from them. I think when they release it it will be a game changer for us P5 owners! Fingers crossed they release it soon.
3006USMC Unfortunately not without a LOT of modifications. Different gearing, would have to have whole new axels and drive shaft for it, a lot of work and $$$$$. I'm sure it could be done in the right hands but from what most have said that have also thought of this, just not worth it. You could also just weld the gears in the front but then turning it even out of 4wd worth be a mother bear.

Kathy Weaver I'm so glad that my video was able to guide you and give you the confidence to tackle the oil change yourself!
Worked like a charm, even clearing the wrench from the dashboard! Thanks for another great video.

good video I have a 2016 pioneer 500 and love it .
The fact that I had to watch this video to locate oil filter is enough to end my love for Honda , ridiculous
Thanks, Jason. This should save me over $100 per oil change/service
Great info, thx for the video keep up the good work
Muy buen trabajo me ayudo mucho 👍 gracias
yea thanks for these you make excellent vids
Honda, why don't you use a spin on oil filter?
Great videos!
There is a spring that holds the filter in place!
thank you very much friend, I’m watching from Georgia 🇬🇪🇬🇪🇬🇪🇬🇪🇬🇪
Try pushing in on the drain bolt as you unscrew it.

With my 2017 first service, they discounted service to just $150.....I'll do myself after the first oil change and valve adj....
Hello, I'm from Poland. I want to buy a Honda from 2015, I have a question is it a good machine? does it have any failures?
Nice!

😂😂😂
In the oil filter is all of the bolts the same size?

Do you use Honda oil or just a good synthetic?
I use the Honda oil. I get the oil change kits from rockymountainatvmc.com
Why do they make it so difficult?
I said 2017 but mine is a 2016.
What a joke.
Honda dumb oil filter placement. Should be a spin on too.
Dude you didn't even mention cleaning the air filter wtf. Cleaning the air filter is potentially just as critical as changing the engine oil.
Zach Mines that’s because it’s a separate vid. ua-cam.com/video/vbdtcSMTQgY/v-deo.html
