- Let's make a tuna salad for two recipe from 1950! Spoilers: it's really for one! Sharing :)
Tuna Salad for Two (as written 1950)
This salad for two takes only half a can of tuna, but
the rest, stored in the refrigerator, makes next day's
luncheon sandwiches.
2 eggs, hard-cooked
1/2 cup grated tuna (half of 6-1/2 or 7 oz. can solid
or grated or flaked style)
4 sliced green onions (include some of tops)
1/4 cup thinly sliced celery or radishes
1 tablesp. pickle relish
1/4 cup mayonnaise
1 tablesp. vinegar or lemon juice
2 large lettuce cups
To cook eggs, cover with cold water; heat rapidly
to boiling; turn off heat; let eggs stand, covered,
15 min. Promptly cool in cold water; remove shell.
Combine tuna, onions, celery or radishes, and pickle
relish. Chop 1 egg, and add. Stir together mayonnaise
and vinegar or lemon juice; toss lightly with tuna
mixture, using fork and spoon. Heap in cup-shaped
lettuce leaves, and arrange on two dinner plates.
(if cups won't stand up nicely, quickly shred a few
lettuce leaves with a knife, and arrange as a found-
ation for the cups.) Quarter other egg lengthwise,
and arrange on top of salads. This recipe makes 2
servings.

I really enjoyed this simple tuna salad. But when I make it again I'll definitely use the whole can of tuna! Topped with some fresh pepper :)
Looks like my tuna salad - I love the egg! Great job.
Thanks deborah. It was fun measuring ingredients for the tuna salad. I always just through stuff in and mix.
Took me a bit to try out this recipe. Im team use the whole can of tuna. Great recipe. This one REALLY reminds me of my mom. She would use green onions in tuna with celery salt and miracle whip. This is a definite keeper of a recipe. I put it on top of romaine lettuce with some tomato wedges. I had it two days in a row for lunch. Its going into recipe rotation. Happy Saturday friend! Have a great holiday weekend!
I'm glad! Celery salt sounds great and miracle whip reminds me of my Dad. I've never liked it but now it's good because of him. Happy Sunday and a great weekend back to you! :)
Hi ! That recipe looks delicious!! You served classic style in a lettuce cup !! Have you ever try putting a few drops of worcestershire sauce in tuna salad ?
That looks delicious. Would be great stuffed in a tomato also.
Tuna and stuffed tomato reminds me of my Father. One of his favorite plates of food to order. Over 7 years now that I've not thought of tuna stuffed tomato. Time to make that I think, using a full can of tuna!
Actress Natalie Schafer made her tuna salad with chopped egg and a few drops of Worcestershire sauce and some green onions! Saw the recipe on an ad about celebrities recipes!!
I haven't tried tuna salad with worcestershire, I don't think. I'm a big fan of Gilligan's Island and didn't know she's famous for tuna salad! I googled it. That's so cool!
Haven’t had tuna in a while but I did have a ham sandwich today with mayo and fresh tomato with chips! Haven’t had a sandwich in a long time. I truly enjoyed not cooking today . Happy week Xeta
Happy week to you too debbie! What kind of bread? Which brand ham? Awe I'm glad you had no cooking. Sounds like you cook a lot!
@@xetaprime wheat with little oats all on the top crust. It was good. Today was awesome egg for breakfast, a fresh pineapple and peach for lunch and then watermelon for supper. Only cooked once today. Good day today too. 🙂
@@xetaprime oh it was deli ham $10. A pound now ugh that’s why I don’t have many sandwiches anymore.
It looks ok. Were you hungry afterward? I love celery and onions in my tuna salad.
Hey there Tucker. Right? I think I would have been if it weren't for the egg and a half in there. Agreed! Celery and onion are must haves.
The only thing I can think is surely this serving was supposed to be part of a plate with sides LOL I'd starve on portions like that.
Agreed. If they hadn't given the 1/2 cup option in the recipe, there would have been even less tuna!
A recipe for two extremely tiny people... Perhaps Kindergartners. Did they have Kindergarten in 1950? Was tuna still on war rations? Why were people so cheap and stingy with tuna?... And why did they leave out the pepper?🤔😶😎
Gosh a lot of questions Jeffrey! Yes. maybe. IDK. IDK! IDK!!!! AHHHH!!!!
@@xetaprime HAHAHA 🤣
