  • To tell the truth, I was one of those Muslims who wanted ex-Muslims to go away. I resented how their voices were coopted by the far right as proof Islam is rotten at its core. Then I met some in person.

I lived in Utah for 2 years and met so many Mormons. Generally speaking there all very nice and sweet. But there was this one incident that stood out to me. When someone I knew left the religion and her family disowned her and wanted nothing to do with her anymore. (She was only 14). I don’t think this reflects anything on Mormons them self’s. But it’s always the bad things that speak louder and portray a bigger image. This is probably the cause for all the hatred, violence, and separation. I could me wrong. Today’s world is seriously fucked up.

A lot of religions treat apostates poorly, but I think ex-Muslims are in a more awkward position than most apostates since they are a lot more likely to be killed/imprisoned for being an apostate, some people try to use their existence as a reason for hatred against Muslims, while others call them hateful for having any criticisms of Islam.

It's a good conversation.. Nothing earth-shattering. These ex-Muslim atheists seem like nice people and I wish them well in their quest for truth. The Muslim guy is also understanding and sympathetic to their predicament. We all need to be having these conversations and to support freedom of conscience. And they do recognize that some ex-Muslims who jump into the rightwing echo-chamber are coopted into spreading bigotry and intolerance. This is admirable given the bigotry and intolerance that is shown to them by some self-professed Muslims and governments in Muslim majority countries. Being respectful of those who choose not to follow your faith is a sign of spiritual maturity and an opportunity for growth. That applies to Muslims, Atheists, Christians, and Pastafarians.

These individuals had questions no one - they knew - had answers for. As practicing Muslims it is our duty to be brave enough to address the questions and issues that some people have and face. And for those out there making this an Islamic issue, its not, we have many incidents where Christians killed their family members because they converted to Islam. The issue here is to be open to understanding and basically just talking with sense. Wishing everyone an enlightened journey. Amen.

Wrong. To reject the killing of apostates, the killing of homosexuals, the subjugation of women and the legitimacy of slavery is to reject Islam. Islam demands all these things. If you don't endorse them, then you are not a faithful Muslim, and God bless you for it. Islam is a false and phony religion made up by a toxic personality who was a warlord, a mass murderer, an oppressor, and a dictator. It is not compatible with an open society or democracy. Reject it, and free yourself from the delusions of a madman.

    • @emantarawneh1481
      @emantarawneh1481 5 років тому +3

Querent2000 Ok angry person. I usually don’t like going into discussions with aggressive and closed minded people, but here goes.
As for killing apostates and homosexuals, Please share with me a verse of the Quran (our holy book and main reference) that says that. Death penalties are always stated in the Quran.
As for slavery, it was in the Arab (and many other cultures as well) culture in which Islam began. Legislations in Islam were usually gradually introduced- such as forbidding drinking alcohol, etc. - so as not to shake societal norms and balance. Freedom of slaves was a main component of being a practicing Muslim and was requested as a means of cleansing oneself of many sins. Islam was to abolish slavey within a few years. Slavey is no longer accepted in Islam.
And as for the subjugation of women, just as an FYI, Aisha, one of prophet Muhammad’s wives was a teacher of men and women on religious issues. They attended lectures by her where she would talk to them and answer their questions. Subjugation and teaching do not go hand in hand.
It is really getting annoying for Muslims to continue to have to answer to lazy and angry people. Everyone is free to have his or her opinion, but lets try to communicate with respect, and one’s belief is their own, no one should need to defend it.
Again, I truly wish you an enlightened journey where you do your homework without previous judgements and with an open heart and mind. And should Islam continue to not make sense to you, thats fine. Just let everyone be and accept that we do not all have to be the same.
      Salam (peace)

@@Fatima-jv1zf your ridiculous questions can be answered with a few simple Google searches but since you still insist on your line of questioning, either out of deliberate ignorance and/or blind faith, people treat you as if you are being dishonest because based on the drivel who have asked above you don't know a thing about evolution. Evolutions starts with the first protein and carbon based molecule that could synthesize energy trapped from the sun's radiation. The error in the replication that follows of RNA proteins, lead to errors, such errors are totally random and are called mutations. Mutations cause variations in generations and as such changes accumulate, changes that would help the organism better survive get naturally selected, as the organisms with those seemingly random (genetic drift) but favourable changes, can survive longer and therefore reproduce at a greater frequency than those members that are not as well adapted. This is a continuous process, and is happening today. Evolution simply states that all beings, be it a tree or a single cellular organism share a common ancestor before the divergences caused by genetic drift guided through natural selection of the fittest individuals. It doesn't say that humans evolved from apes but that humans are apes, just one distinct and very well adapted sub species of great apes among several. We are still evolving and the humans 20 million years from now will resemble us in the same way we resemble the austropithicus Africanus. I don't know where would you get your misrepresentations of the theory of evolution from? But you sure need to read more than just one book. ✌

Many people support other people converting to Muslim but when Muslims convert they begin to hate those individuals. Why? I think a religion should be something you choose, not inheriting it before birth. It's the parent's religion, your religion should be something you believe, whether that be the religion you are currently in or something completely different. That goes for every religion out there.

The Quran says there are seven heavens above us, sometimes described as seven layers (23:17). We are in the lowest of these layers (دنيا), so the Quran is basically saying that there are six layers "above" the one we are in. The phrase ‘seven heavens’ is used in the whole Quran exactly seven times: 2:29, 41:12, 65:12, 67:3, 71:15, 17:44, and 23:86.[citation needed]
The words "Sea" and "Land" are used 32 and 13 times respectively in the Quran. 32 plus 13 equals 45, and the two words make up 71.1 and 28.9 percent respectively of those 45. These percentages roughly correspond to what we today know the proportion of the Earth's surface made up of water and land to be.
"Human being" is used 65 times: the sum of the number of references to the stages of man's creation is the same:

Be critical of what, their bravery and intelligence? After all, these are the people who sat down and seriously thought about their beliefs; they had the intelligence to identify errors in what they found (something that also requires intellectual courage); and they had to bravery to face the (often unthinking and cowardly) backlash.

You talk about ex-Muslims as people with limited knowledge (show me a human with unlimited knowledge and I'll be impressed), but then you talk about people "convert[ing] to atheism" and "the basics of atheism". Nobody converts to atheism, they deconvert from a theistic religion and lose their belief in theism, which makes them atheists.
If someone has examined the tenets of the belief system they were raised into, and they can no longer find it believable, what would you have them do? Pretend that they still believe it? Of course, that's a necessity in some parts of the world, where atheism (and especially apostasy) is met with inhuman persecution and punishment; but are you saying that forcing people to live a lie, to deceive others and try to deceive themselves, is a virtue rather than just a survival strategy?
Yusuf al-Qaradawi is on record as saying that if the punishment for apostasy had been abandoned, Islam wouldn't exist today. As I've asked before: if an ideology only survived because people would be killed if they left it, what does that say about the ideology?

I've noticed something interesting, many Muslims in the USA are different from their counterparts in Europe and the Middle East, they are not necessarily as devout, many do not attend religious services weekly, and they have very positive views sometimes on drinking, drugs, gay marriage, etc.

The Islamic world used to be enlightened for its time, but has either stagnated or fallen into fundamentalism, due in large part to the failures of competing ideologies, while the rest of the world has moved on. The twin civilising forces of secularism and liberalism need to play the same pacifying influence on the Islamic world, as they have on other cultures, so Muslims can more successfully navigate faith and modernity, and broader emerging challenges like populism, globalization, and automation.

They are instructed by their own clerical class (whose access to resourrces is determined by their power ) to do whatever is needed to protect the power of the belief system. Not the credibility of the belief system. But the power of the belief system. That is what is at stake. Because the belief system puts power first, and then draws credibility from it's power. It does not derive power from credibility, because it will not tolerate any discussion of credibility. And that means an expectation to control all dissent. The believers are not expected to evaluate too intensely. They are expected to respond to every threat to the power system, as if that threat was to them personally. And that is why the reaction is always negative. To maintain a system of power, which comes at a cost to individuals within it.

    • @dsbdsb6637
      @dsbdsb6637 6 років тому +2

Every system will always have power & only the people at top of power hierarchy gets to define everything including power. Every form of belief eventually leads to power hierarchy {In Indian subcontinent it created Casteism, In Abrahamic religions it resulted in slavery and in modern Neo-liberal order it created the greatest inequality ever on earth etc.} -_- Problem is lack of internal criticism because internal criticism is what allows negotiation among different beliefs & a chance that someday we will achieve the delicate balance between optimal distribution of resources.
One thing is certain though till the 'state' is controlling the narrative & distribution it won't work.
Everything has certain amount of belief because without it there will be no trust in the world & without trust there won't be any community or society so the problem of belief in this case is with regards to it's flexibility not with belief per se.
Your argument perfectly fits Muslim mentality though.

The Quran is traditionally written in the eastern Arabian dialect of Classical Arabic. Ironically Muhammad would have spoken the western dialect ofClassical Arabic originating from Mecca, so there is already an element of translation inherent in the Quran.
“al hayat” (life), 145 times; “al mawt” (death), 145 times
“al-dunya” (mundane life), 115 times; “al akhira” (the afterlife), 115 times
“malaika” (angels), 88 times; “shayatin” (demons), 88 times
“ar rajul (man), 24 times; “al mar’a (woman), 24 times
“as salihat (good deeds), 167 times; “as sayya’at” (wrong doings), 167 times
“qul” (say), 332 times; “qalu” (said), 332 times
“an nas” (people), 50 times; “an nabiya” (prophets), 50 times
“al muslimat” (Muslim women), 41 times; “al muslimin” (Muslim men), 41 times
"yawma-izhin" (That day), 70 times; "qiyama" (Judgment day), 70 times
"dunya" (near), 115 times; "akhira" (far), 115 times
"shitaa" (winter), 1 time; "sayf" (summer), 1 time
"Isa" (Yahushua), 25 times; "Adam", 25 times

Actually, Voltaire is one of the reasons why the West has historically had such a rosy view of Islam. He caricatured the religion positively as a foil to say to the intolerant Europeans of his age, "Why can't you be tolerant? -- Even the barbarian Mohammedans can do it!" If Voltaire had actually written a critique of Islam, he would have been as negative as Churchill.

Well, that is what the Quran says in Surah 71, describing how Noah decided that all infidels must be killed to prevent them from having infidel offspring and causing the muslims to leave islam. Muhammad made this version of the biblical tale of Noah up in his early years, proving that he never had a period of pieceful thinking.

    • @hans-joachimbierwirth4727
      @hans-joachimbierwirth4727 6 років тому +1

Surah 46 from the late meccan phase (619-622 A.D.) tries to justify the preacher Muhammad by putting him in line with Noah, Abraham, Moses and Jesus, whom he calls prophets like himself. Muhammad claims, he is preaching the same and refers to two scriptures, the Torah and a "book". In Surah 46 this book gets explicitly called the Quran while arab history claims, there was no Quran when Muhammad walked the earth. The preaching in Surah 46 claims, there are no new inventions but only confirmations. To me that sounds like Muhammad was running around with something like a bible and used it to make believe he could read it and preach from that. But that is my personal interpretation only. Standard commentary (i. e. Ibn Kathīr) goes to great lengths explaining this Surah as focussed on the conflict between the self-declared prophet and the people from Mecca, whom he threatened with total destruction refering to examples from the bible and from arab history. There is also an attempt at proving the authenticity of the prophet and "his book" by refering to miracles and witnesses although the latter refers to the two scriptures he mentions. Vers 9 is a massive threat which can be overlooked by readers unfamiliar with Muhammads phrasing. Being a warner is always used in context with total destruction like i. e. in Surah 71.

But being a human and want to change something in me i keep on searching what is the truth. And the prayers ive been asking was answered and showed me a lot of visions. God prove me everything i need to know about Him. I did not even want to be a born again before but see. Look what i found? 3 white doves right in front of me. The earthquake in the Philippines happened earlier. I have dreamed and read from the bible book of haggai. Book of jerimiah about false prophet. Book of matthew 24 that leads me to believe. I saw these all in m dreams. And the last part was the showers of fire crackers in my dreams that happened few hours in israel. I saw these in my dreams and its clear. How will i go to serve my master if i dont know my master? So He gave me a lot of reason to know Him and reading a bible is crcucial to everyone. That is the only way you could only find the truth. I even read quran but i dont feel satisfaction. I even pray to God if he was there in quran then give me answers. But no answered prayers. Book of john 10 tells “Jesus said. I am the shepered. My sheep knows my voice. And they follow my voice” I heard His voice when the first time i attended to night of worship was invited by a friend. He talked to me and said “My child, you are saved”. Have u experienced all of these things? Its not about studies. Its all about heart. Faith.

Islam is a very peaceful and loving religion. A true muslim very affectionately, while running his soft caressing fingers through the hairs of a non Muslim, lovingly detaches the head from the neck while singing a devotional song.

The reality is the real muslim does not care. Each of us will be judged individually. Even your own body parts will speak and will not be on your side. Don't think too much of it. Y'all always tryna make drama and entertainment.

Dude, you spoke out some things which are highly important and critical: that in society people tend to not be critical to islam, or when you question yourself if you can consider yourself still a muslim as a feminist and being against homophobia.
Whish you find a lot of supporters for your work. Warm greetings to you

IMO you will always get a Truer version of a religion from someone who became 'disenchanted' by it but who saw it from the inside, than from someone still drinking the Ghoul'aid.

We have found a religion that we feel happy with and we will survive and prosper.

    Narrated `Ikrima:
Some Zanadiqa (atheists) were brought to `Ali and he burnt them. The news of this event, reached Ibn `Abbas who said, "If I had been in his place, I would not have burnt them, as Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) forbade it, saying, 'Do not punish anybody with Allah's punishment (fire).' I would have killed them according to the statement of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ), 'Whoever changed his Islamic religion, then kill him.'" Sahih al-Bukhari 6922
