Awesome video Sidney! I am still using your recommended cine 4 on my A6500 and can’t wait to upgrade and use S-Cinetone. Appreciate the video and all the help you have provided us over the years!
The S-Cinetone and S-Log3 looked pretty close to each other. Where I was able to notice a bit of an advantage on color was the S-Log3 with your hair being more darker and natural looking. The inner part of your jacket hoodie was also a bit more darker and the same goes for those dried up tree branches in the background. I'm looking for a camera my self for making videos on my youtube channel. I got my very first Colab company since I started my youtube channel years ago. After getting a new PC, new editing soft and using my Note 20 Ultra in 4k 60Fps things finally started to move for me. I want to go for the Sony Alpha A7s iii and this video is helping alot. I doing reviews of products now with LED Lighting for Cars as well as what I made my youtube channel to be which is DIY Car Audio Projects so for me. Making videos look as smooth as possible with good color and lighting is now very important. This helps alot. Thank you.
I see Creative Style / Neutral looks very nice. For 99% of footage, nobody notices dynamic range difference between S-Log and S-Cinetone / or Creative Style for that matter. Strength of content and story line is important as they overshadow any lack of dynamic range there is. Thank you for sharing your tips with us !
Image looks great. This is just another reason why the Sony a7siii is crushing it for video right now. Definitely watch out for the mimes.
Best story blocks ad I’ve seen in a while
I m learning a lot from you Sid. Thanks!
I just got the fx3 and i was playing around with scinetone and slog 3 and im just AMAZED how good the slog is :) but i agree scinetone is cool for fast edit run and gun vlog-youtube style :D
Thank you very much for this video, it was fundamental on my decision to buy the A7SIII. You have a natural talent for explaining things.
So good ! Killing it bro
Fantastic video as always......I need to get an a7siii still........been enjoying the a7c. I would for sure shoot in S-Cinetone, golden.
I shot Canon and Fuji for many years but still watched your content purely for entertainment. Now I own the A7SIII. Fill in the rest! 😁
Wooo!!
What a fantastic StoryBlocks placement!
Great Intro mate 👍, video awesome as always
Thanks so much!
Thanks for this. I have an A7iv and just learning picture profiles.
Fantastic video! Thank you!
If you want to keep your dynamic range you can shoot in S.log then use cinematch to fx9 s.cinetone and it's pretty spot on, also comes with the rec709 conversion built in. Then again if you're going to do that you can always choose ARRI also :)
That's what I'm thinking, if you're using a lut or converting to rec709 anyway, you may as well just shoot s-log 3 and click 3 buttons. Because looks like s cinetone still needs a bit of grading. Basically like a burnt in lut really.
Great video, thank you! I’m coming to an a7iv from an a7iii and loved cine4 for UA-cam, so was curious how similar s-cinetone was to it. Definitely earned my subscription, love the content!
what is the difference between s-cinetone and the standard profile. what are the advantages of s-cinetone?
Thanks for making this video.
I have the a7siii but I don't have a pp11.. is there an update or something?
I just upgraded from the Sony ZV-E10 which I used to shoot 4K 4:2:0 8-bit in Slog 3 (I know, not best choice for 8 bit) to the FX6 Cinema Camera and boy am I amazed by the colors S.CInetone produces. I paired it up with the 24-70mm GM II and it's the perfect combo for everything I do. I'm not a colorist or whatever so I don't like spending my time color grading heavily but now that I got S.Cinetone and the ability to shoot 4K 10-bit 4:2:2 in XAVC-I all intra mode internally it's a dream. Love the colors it produces straight from the camera.
Need to make the switch! Looks great.
Thanks for watching!
i’m thinking about switching to cinetone just for the ease of exposing!
As long as you expose correctly. I think realistically s log 3 is there for very difficult situation with extreme contrast. If there isn't dark shadows and bright highlights in the same shot, then you don't need as much dynamic range. But s log 3 also gives you more creative control, so if you want a more washed out look or a softer gradient between the different tones then you can dictate that more.
Bro best camera ever you are the best
Epic intro Sid 😂 You actually scared the sh** out of me twice! Now I can watch the rest of the video ahah
Should I also reduce sharpness when shooting S-Cinetone in the FX6
@Remy Melvin i really appreciate your reply. I found the site on google and I'm trying it out atm.
Seems to take quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
My gosh That sponsor segment 😂😂. Super creative
This is something that baffled me when UA-camrs would refer to them as if you cannot change them. I get that it's easier to refer to default settings but should say it can be changed. Had to figure that out myself. For ages I would refrain from it in case it messed my footage up.
I'd watch this for the ad alone, nice job!!
🤣
awesome video siddi
Where do we get your luts for s-cinetone ? None of the luts from your website mentioned being for s-cinetone. Do they all work for both slog3 and s-cinetone or should we pick one in particular ? Thx
A lot of luts are applied after you convert over to rec-709 meaning they should still be useable with s-cinetone unless they are log to rec-709 luts
The mimes driving a car shot was so satisfying to watch lmao
Which lut are you using for SLOG3? The one from sony?
The PP# is irrelevant - you can assign any profile/log settings to any of the numbers.
Nice shot...
why iso 100, or 2000? the camera's native iso is 640. isnt it better if u start with 640? or 640 is only for every other picture profile (including slog3), EXCEPT s-cinetone which as u said is 100,2000 etc?
I believe the native ISO varies by picture profile on this camera. It's 100 and 2000 for s-cinetone. 640 and 12,800 for slog 3. Crazy right? I just look on the screen for the lowest base to be the first one without the number being underlined. Multiply by 20 for the 2nd native iso for low light. Camera is amazing.
Would you ever rig up your camera? Or just leave it as light a setup as possible?
Wow, that s/cinetone amazing, especially for some one like me who is just beginning
Good One Sir
Not really that interesting in Sony but so glad I watched this brilliant....
Thanks my dude!
What should I use for A7iii?
Needing to exposure correctly for real estate videos
S-log 2 with +2 e.v. (I use Leeming Lut for fast turn around) or his Cine 4 profile is a reliable profile. Also, watch DSLR Video Shooters video on getting good Sony colours from about a year ago! Don't use S-log 3 on the A7iii as the video 'quality' isn't good enough (it's only 8-bit vs the 10-bit really required to use it effectively).
I think it’s really about personal preference. If you’re going for the cinematic look then use cinetone. But if that’s not your goal, then use S log two or three.
Is a cinetone applicable to still as well ?
Sorry I’m late… still learning. So by using the meter… - negative value means exposure is too bright??
Too dark. As for what he's saying, I think this is more what he's referring to:
"EV" is a quick "cheat" menu for photographers. It's how we quick-adjust the brightness in photos/vids. 0 = normal. If your photo is too bright, turn the dial to the negative area to make it darker. If too dark, turn it to the positive area to make it brighter. +3and -3 is as far as it goes.
On the A7S III, there's a big, physical dial next to the record button. So you really are turning a dial. On cell phones and point-n-shoot cams, it's usually a touchscreen option that can look different, like a ring around the focus area or a horizontal line.
Thank you
Thanks for watching!
First time i digged the Storyblocks placement. Next time keep it shorter.
I’m sure this questions been ask multiple times, but why doesn’t Sony just name the picture profiles in the menu?
Because Sony likes to make stuff complicated for us lol
I’m tempted to sell my Pocket 4K and a6400 to get the A7siii.
thank u
Does s cinetone give same high iso noise vs standard or neutral profile?
So far, yes I believe. I haven't done a side-by-side comparison so I'll make sure to do that!
@@SidneyDiongzon many thanks 🙏
Osm....
Hey Sidney! Are you still using S-Cinetone today?
Yep!
@@SidneyDiongzon Amazing, thank you! I've just ordered my A7S III (upgrading from A7C/A73). Really looking forward to less grading!
Why shutter speed 200 if your shooting 24fps?? Please let me know . It’s when you are using another camera to show Sony a7siii
Because I didn’t want to use a filter to interfere with the colors represented on screen
Then just use Standard Creative Style with no PP and you’ll get a better punchier picture, especially on a cloudy day like in this video
Call me crazy, but I feel like there was more detail on the face in the profile with no PP
Did you shoot this with S-cinetone ? Lol
Luts 🙂😏
Luts are fine if you expose correctly and know that you want the footage to look like the lut. If you already want that look why manual alter each clip? Obviously if you want a very specific look or each clip is very very different, but using a lut usually makes no difference except for saving time in the majority of the work that I do anyway.
Why don’t I have pp 11 on my camera ??? 😂
since i switched from PP to Davinci Resolve, i just cant understand people who still uses PP xD....... just a thought ;)
I’m using resolve as well, and the only reason I loved premiere was the ability to send clips to after effects really easily lol
Because time is money and depending on what you shoot spending hours on color grading is not worth the time. I find the whole nodes thing confusing do you have a good video that explains it well?
I couldn’t see any difference between the three.
great video, BUT, you focused too much on dynamic range, but if you want to do heavy color grading (not only color correction) and to create a really creative look (heavy blues, green Joker style, or a Mad Max look, whatever) SLOG3 is THE way to go... so much more flexible in the color grading area, that cinetone can not deliver.... cheers !!!
1 minute 20 seconds of an AD, IN THE BEGINING???? come on!!!!
Thanks for watching!
But...?
