"On March 15, 1969, The Velvet Underground played its last show of a three-day engagement at The Boston Tea Party in Boston, Massachusetts. The entire set was recorded by a fan directly from Lou Reed's guitar amplifier. The result is that Lou's guitar is out in front of everything else. Vocals and bass are nearly inaudible, so the songs become raw blasting instrumentals. This is one of the most interesting Velvet Underground recordings available and definitively a very special experience...
"This is the blow-out of blow-outs. (...) a fantastic ride through the guts of the band on a wild night." - The Afterhours Tapes
"(...) the listener should be prepared for an abrasive explosion that must be played loud; and do give your ears a few minutes to err... adjust." - Jim Flynn Curtin"

Enjoy!
Mr Reed is my hero 👑🔥
mine too
Has been mine for 31 years, and always will be
He really was the most unique individual that never followed the status quo and just was his raw self that nobody could try to persuade - "what you see is what you get and if you don't like it then go away". An enigma he was... Rest his soul
Forgot to say - plus, an artistic poet that nobody could touch. I call him the Edgar Allen Poe of rock and roll...

Thanks, this is from my time, it is so great to hear this. My time on this planet is coming to an end soon and it is things such as this make my day. Thank you.
blessings to you and yours 🙏

Rock the fuck on. Stay sane. We know and understand the world is fucked.
John Cale, John Cale...
Doug Yule is terribly underrated as member of The Velvet Underground.
Ignored in the 1990s reunion, for example.
I agree. Its like they tried to write him out of the bands history. He shouldn't have released that final album, Squeeze I think it was? I never even gave it a listen considering the circumstances. But his vocals and instrumental abilities were crucial to Loaded imho. But to think he could take over Lou's spot at the wheel was the record company downplaying Reed's small yet fanatical audience. Cale deserves alot of credit, he was very talented. But he does get a little too talked up regarding his time with VU. Imho he shined most as a producer and mentor to up and coming acts. Hes got some interesting solo material but it is just too avant garde to the point of it being something someone wouldn't listen to on a regular basis. Same can be said of Sterling. He was a ripping guitar player that only Lou seemed to appreciate. I wish there were more high quality live recordings of the Velvets. If there were he would for sure be more appreciated. And to continue I don't think Moe is as good as at least Lou thought she was. Her style worked for alot of songs but her limited ability hampered alot of songs too. My favorite VU record is the 3rd self titled one.
i guess they are making a fortiure from the residuals probably hard to be rated mo tucker j kale who was sterling morrisson a wholwa who was andy?
Yule destroyed Loaded...
Love it. Lou was quoted once as saying his primary identity is as a rhythm guitarist when someone asked "what are you"? Here you can hear that identity stripped down, and he was certainly one of the best and most crudely inventive.
a good quote is sweet jane
Jonathan Richman once worked up the nerve to approach Lou Reed and tell him how much he loved the Velvets. Lou being Lou shot back "Really ? What do you love about us ?" Richman said "I love how you play your guitars like they're percussion." Lou liked that answer so much they became friends for years. Then - Lou being Lou - totally cut off all communication with him without any explanation for the rest of his life. Still 10 plus years of being friends with Lou Reed is more than most people got.
Holy Christ what a monster this bootleg is. This is the Velvets at their noisiest glorious best !!
this slaps so damn hard, bois
So hard. Harder than anything nowadays and this was 1969... Unreal
100 people listened to this, and 80 of them started a band.
I form an imaginary band every week but I'm forming one per song during this!
He sings Run Run Run like a man possessed and his solos are especially inspired on that one too
What Goes On is absolutely hypnotic. Can't stop listening to it on loop. Thanks for uploading this!
favourite version of my favourite velvets tune
Agreed. I love it.
I can see how fanatics for VU would enjoy this despite basic loss of most vocals, especially you guitar players. It does give one a feeling of being there--but standing in a disadvantageous part of the room. I prefer the Quine tapes and VU live 1969.
reed rhthym deliberatetely shocking leed Quine { dead} play lead but no velvets
idk what people are talkin about, lou reed is an incredible guitar player. fuck “he’s not a virtuoso”, pure groove and on the fly statement
For true VU fans.
Love the watery guitar tone from their 1969 live performances, it feels like I've been submerged underwater! 46:58
This is incredible stuff. I've heard Velvets studio songs and yeah they are influential but this? Wow, just wow. This is what separates a live band from a studio band, the total raw power and freedom to jam and make noises. All bands should hear this before going into a studio.,
pretty sure i've listened to this more than all of their studio stuff combined at this point
For me, watching Lou and the team is like watching a relaxed jam session rather than a concert. The audience is invited to participate.
Their style changed from mellow to this
Hoping anyone and everyone who loves this has listened to Les Rallizes Denudes too
Lou Reed is a genius. When all the others will have faded. Lou and the VU will endure.
This stuff never gets old, sounds as exciting to me now as it did back then
Second disc is my favorite velvets ever
"candy says" is so beautiful here oh my god
Ikr. Its the most beautiful ive heard the guitar
Lives forever... Sometimes music is your only constant.
Candy says guitar is so good
Thanks for sharing, 🔥
Divine, unique sound...
Une sélection mythique !
PERFECT SENSE!
This is amazing
Buen documento!!!
This is the best-sounding version of these recordings that I’ve ever heard (I have a vinyl boot of it from…..25 years ago maybe?). You can actually here quite a bit of the band here even tho the guitar is obviously way upfront. I’ve been on a bit Velvets/Lou binge recently while reading the new bio. So great to hear this stuff again this way!!! Thank you so much for posting.
i love in the cacaphony there is the deliberate off key loud guitar
Never a bad idea to binge on the VU
Rejuvenating!!!!!!
So cool
best thing ever
Holy sh*t, what a groove…
The first track sounds so much like "I'm Beginning to See the Light", which comes on later. But absolutely fascinating to be tuned in to Lou's guitar playing.
Yes. This version of Sister Ray HAS to literally be what was the start of punk rock. Absolutely unreal with how incredible and amazing it is... These guys were absolute geniuses a million years ahead of 99% of bands at that time.
The tone of their guitar was an unreal sound... Like a very loud groan of being in the deepest point of ones life... They had a concept that surpassed what was expected at the time...
this is fucking great
holy moly!
I don’t know how to explain this, but I can totally hear the vocals on the first what goes on
musical epilepsy
that's rock'n roll !!!!!!!
This great. No effects just guitar and amp. My favorites are "Candy Says" and "Jesus"
Except most of the songs, especially the long jams like "Sister Ray" are dripping with Fuzz.
@@tonebenderx yes they are but I like the quieter jams. I do however also dig the old school fuzz box.
Sounds like VUs equivalent of Les Rallizes Denudes 77 Live
Absolute greatest live performances by the Velvets. This was them at their absolute PINNACLE. Sound quality is rugged and lower - but that's ok. Thanks for the post and rock on Velvet fans...
Thank you so very much. I am now officially sanctioned to listen to this since, thank God, it garnered your approval. I knew I was doing a good job. I hope I'm sufficiently prepared to spend my twilight years lamenting the very selfsame fact that I am continuing to die at a rate most likely determined by the sheer physical amount of incomplete bootlegs and muddy soundboard "line out"-fueled cassette recordings (preferably with plenty of tracks inexplicably starting in the middle of songs.) "I was into punk rock before it had a name"; "jocks always used to beat me up..." Would you care to hear a random series of name-drops, perhaps? Oh yeah: make sure to ask everyone what their ages are, all the while "offhandedly" asserting my own age (always the senior party in any conversation I choose to show off, or rather, "engage" in. Also: be sure to mention that you own concert t-shirts (which are) "older that you (the intended friend/victim) are." Good democrat, you are appreciated/validated.
@@ILuvHeroinmight wanna check into rehab because this was an unintelligible comment
@@clc-gl4jn I thought it was quite funny.
The fuzz on this is devastating. What do you think he was using, an Ampeg Scrambler?
Am is cool!
Wow

I love how it says Ultra Sonic ! on the cover and it's the exact opposite of sonic , but still I like it better than contemporary ultrasonic songs
YEAH LOU I HAVEBEEN 3 TIMES AT YOUR CONCERTS IN LJUBLJANA THE SAME I WAS AT BOB DYLAN S HE IS MY MAN REST IN PEACE YOU DIED THE SAME YEAR AS MY MAMA IN AN ACCIDENT SHE WAS MEAN TO ME AND I NEVER HAD DAD I MISS YOU BOTH SHE WAS ONLY MAMA I HAD
God this is so intriguing. I wish it was actually something you could listen to on a regular basis. The quality is absolutely torturous.
You can listen to it on a regular basis tho
@@aaronmatson9028 I guess I should have said for myself lol. I can't put up with that quality to keep giving it repeat listens but I wish I could.🤣
Was this recorded inside a guitar amp?
yeah
Still unsurpassed.
Do they have this on vinyl and where can I get it?
Everything sounds best on vinyl
Noone hears the hecklers? And Lou brushing them off... Drama etc.... Big secret or sum shit?
I love this. It’s epic on an um..epic scale. But, I hope that the tools that helped create the new Beatles single Now and Then become readily available so that this can be remixed one day and the vocals put up front. It’s a long hope but you have to dream.
I hope that never happens. Velvets boots are brilliant because of what they are, and this one is so Lou-centric! Other tapes are available for other tastes. One of the great things about the post-Cale period, they could play wild or sweet as the mood took them. Live 1969, whilst brilliant, underplayed their 1969 noise inclinations. That's not to say if there ever was a cleaned-up magically remixed version of this show I wouldn't want in. But much like that "new" Beatles track, It was never needed.
Mono tapes Rules
What is he doing at around 1:11:20?
beer can or some slide up and down the strings, I guess.
Google ‘greatest album that never was” by Ed Wagemann
Anyone know what kind of amp Lou played
Early on Vox Super Beatle , by the 3rd album he was using Sunn.
@@frankscovertunes Sunn ??????????? he had a deluxe.. vox endorsed em but doubt they used these things
@@9lettere668 Yes , he and Sterling used large Sunn amps in the VU. I'm sure Lou used many others at various times. If you look at the back of VU and Nico you can see a Vox , on the back of Loaded there are the large Sunn amps and a Fender Dual Showman Reverb in the studio picture , for example.Plenty of live footage showing them with Vox amps , John Cale in an interview said that Vox was responsible for the huge sounds they were getting on White Light / White Heat LP.
i think Silvertone amps
I have seen several pictures of him using a Fender brownface Deluxe, from around 1962
so is it drug hit sally inside or duck and sally inside?
doug and sally inside
@@Jonassssss6 I've learned since it's duck and Sally thanks dawg
Did this slightly precede what Young did with Crazy Horse?
I mean yeah it preceded it. They were doing different things though
the sound is not dissimilar at times
@@damonarvid3548 you're right if you like this and crazy horse check out Les Rallizes Denudes
@@jaredlizzshared5995 I’d never heard of LRD until this comment....holy SHIT. They’re amazing, thank you for introducing me to them!
A bit concurrent, as NY recorded much of ‘Everybody Knows this is Nowhere’ between Jan and March of ‘69. It’s definitely got a similar onslaught feeling to Crazy Horse in full blast-out (which is mostly due to the fact that this is JUST the guitar)
Was this a Quine tape?
Not a Quine tape. This was recorded by a guy nicknamed the professor. He recorded a few of their Boston shows and one at an outdoor festival. This sounds much better than the Quine tapes. Those have bad sound because the master reel tapes were lost decades ago and the album was put together from cassette compilations that Quine himself made from the masters at the time.
Out of tune guits sound top!
дас ист фантастиш
It's a terribile sound..Just One Channel..ok Is AN old track..Is It good for Lou ? Laurie Anderson..tanks
Awful, I would rather listen to my washing machine than to be tortured by this. Pick up a copy of The Allman Brothers live at Fillmore East and thank me for the rest of your life.
Better delete this tasteless shlt
people like different sorts of music, you know. i've listened to the fillmore east album and others and I think it's all a bunch of wankery. but I don't go to the mountain jam video to say how much i find it shit to a bunch of fans. so no, nobody will be thanking you here.
