Wish you guys would stop talking about the video quality of the damn video and just pay attention to this terrific review. I know you all mean well but good God, he is giving us free info on a product we all are interested in. Cut Steve Huff a break.
Eeek! I think I would take the original X100 :) But the GR is superb. All depends on if you prefer 28mm or 35mm. I prefer the X100 to X100s as i like the IQ from the 100 over the X-Trans. All are great though.
I just sold an RX100 and I'm thinking on this or the Fuji X100. The sensor is larger on both towards the RX100 [which is a fine little camera, too small though for my liking] image quality is going to be better, as well as higher ISO noise performance, on either the Ricoh or Fuji.
Yeah, some people are saying they don't like the x-trans sensor. What are the main differences between x100 and x100s's sensor obviously besides the sharpness? Thanks
There is a issue with the video. I am sure there is a reason why many are letting you know of the video quality issue. Hope you'll look into it, other than from your own computer only. Thank you for the video, keep up the good work.
Watching at 720p on my 27" 2011 iMac, and there is a lot of noise/graininess. It doesn't lack sharpness though. Audio seems fine as well. Might be youtube compression, vs the original video?
Great video review as always, but the video is very noisy in low light, and the shadow area is showing broken color stage (or whatever it called) even in 720p I guess due to overly compressed.
+Nicholas Erwin This camera is amazing, man, the best thing in the world, and this is coming from the owner of an A7R. Tiny, easy to use and every photo has a very £3000 Carl Zeiss lens dreamy look to them. Just have good post processing software, know how to use it and photos will be amazing. Probably the best camera around for quality to price ratio.
+Nicholas Erwin I have been using mine for about 10 months now and I absolutely love it. I have an Olympus E-M1 for planned shooting but my GR is always on my hip and I have caught a lot of great shots that I would have otherwise missed. If you would like to see a sample of what it can do--though it can probably do much more in the hands of a more capable photographer--check out this album: flic.kr/s/aHsk4PMequ

+Nicholas Erwin absolutely! I've been using mine for almost 2 years now and I'm very happy with this little camera. It can be carried easily and have an astonishing image quality! Plus this model should be cheaper right now because the GRII has been released which have any relevant improvement on the first model.
It's not crappy at all, but it is patchy in dark areas, at 720p here, on a 17" laptop set up for photography. To be fair, it looked pretty dark conditions where you were shooting. I'm torn between the Ricoh and the X100 - both around the same price on amazon uk ... gah! decisions.
blacks/shadows awful? adjust your display brightness!, that's the problem for sure. Video quality is good. Thanks for the review, helped me a lot but still wondering if it could shoot with the lcd display off.
Hmm, When I press the Adj ISO button on my Ricoh Gr I do not get all the options that I see on your screen. I only get options for setting the Aspect Ratio and Image size.
Yeah that Macro mode is really nothing to write home about. I thought most if not all point&shoot cameras had one button dedicated to switching to macro, since like 2001.
I turned the video up to 720 and the lows are really ugly and muddy, really bad. Honestly, I don't know why its showing up nice for you but just look at it on another computers monitor or ask some friends (since you seem to think its not the videos fault).
The video is awful. Pixilation in the shadows, especially where the camera meets the table on both my Sony Vaio and Macbook Pro displays at 720p. Just agreeing with the posts above. Review, besides the video quality, is fantastic as usual. Thx. Keep em coming...please.

Looks great on my 2013 27 iMac 27 - nice and bright and clean and sharp. Audio is good as well. Watch in 720P

I wish Ricoh would update the GXR line and or make a GR w/ 35mm or 40mm FL.
great review or hands on , you are the best ,Steve ,thanks for all your time and effort.
Im sold.... this is a great video. Definitely getting one of these now.
good to hear, I love the original x100
can you do a video on setting snap focus distance to the adj. dial and show how it's used IRL? thanks!
Steve. Do you prefer this new GR or the Fuji X100s ? Cost not being a factor.
Thanks - Very nice and thorough review. Cheers!

i bought the RX100 II and after the Ricoh GR. The IQ of the ricoh is the best !!!!
Steve Huff Great review! Which one is a better buy this Ricoh GR or Sony RX100 II?
thanks

Would you still recommend this camera as of today?

Why do you prefer X100 before X100s? :)
how does it shoot indoor with low light, no flash and some movement?
Hmm,

Read the manual :) - You can customise what you see when press the Adj ISO lever
Has to be in P mode, not auto.
The ... you on about, looks great :S
Not on my display, not at all.

You should not blame Samsung, it is youtube video coding issue.
Samsung NX300 is a great camera for stills and video.
please,
you can do a test of the burst?
both raw + jpg, and only jpg
It is very important for me....
thank you!
I would absolutely lose my mind if they made this with a 35mm/f2 and pano mode
+Mike H. then loose your mind for Fujifilm X-100S/T
The samsung doese hunt a bit though
You realise this video is not to show off the Samsung's video performance, right? He merely mentioned it.
Really? You've got to press that pin to switch between modes? That's not gonna work out for me at all.
Why are they so slow
UA-cam compression
And the Movie AF (of the Samsung) is very disconcerting
Video looks good. Calibrate your monitors.

The video may look good on the LCD on the back of the Samsung, but the blacks/shadow areas are AWFUL man!
Best Overview.
the video sucks on that crappy samsung cam. please don't use it in low light again
Why you didn't shut ? You ddin't test AF speed. Very frustrating. I gave you a dislike for that omission.
