Wow, I'm usually a huge V&M fan but this has to be one of the most beautiful and amazing ice dance performances I have ever seen. The music was extraordinary. Captivating, I found myself in tears!!
They really put everything into this FD. The title was much deserved.
I'm Italian and I love Meryl and Charlie! They are the best in the world!
There are no words. Love them so much. I was thrilled to see them win.
Sharon here: The strength, the grace, the delicacy, the syncopation, the transitions, the athleticism ... still gives me chills.
I loved the music itself from the beginning ("Notre Dame de Paris" is 'sung-through' musical theater piece by Riccardo Cocciante based on "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" by Victor Hugo); particularly loved how they kept improving the choreography w/each performance. To me it's story-telling at its best on ice (in this case, passion & hopeless love); tolling of bells (added halfway thru season) added so much, as did addition of 'quiet' full-rink arabesque at US Nat'ls.
I too will admit that I did not particularly care for this choice of music for the FD at the start of the year. But I now understand it. Within the confines of this music they are able to show every side of their skating. Nothing is left to chance. Absolutely breathtaking from beginning to end. So proud of them. The amount of time and energy that went into skating this masterpiece is obvious. Haters will hate....but they are again WORLD CHAMPIONS!!!! Way to go Charlie and Meryl!!!

I'm Canadian and a Virtue/Moir fan... but this American team totally deserved the gold. They are MAGIC. The speed and fluidity, and of course the technical skill,but most impressive (to me) was the fact that they did not waste a second of this program. In all moments of transition, they used gestures and facial expressions to keep the emotional momentum going. I find a lot of skaters in all categories fail at that.

ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE. It gives me chills! They skate with passion and go all out yet they maintain a fluidity that makes it all come together. The perfect combination of strength, speed, grace, and expression--and it's executed perfectly (or very near perfectly). Completely magical. I think there is a VERY GOOD chance they'll be walking away with that Olympic gold medal. LOVE LOVE LOVE
Bravo to Meryl and Charlie for their outstanding World Championship win! So well deserved. Two totally different programs, both skated w/such style & artistry ("Giselle" & "Notre Dame de Paris"). I have loved how this FD choreography developed over the season! For me, it ranks right up there w/their fabulous "Samson & Delilah" & "Die Fledermaus". Brilliant! I couldn't tell you how many times I've watched this stunning performance. If I did, you wouldn't believe me. Love them and will miss them. I hope they are just taking time off and will return to the competitive ice dance floor. But I don't think that will happen.
I have loved this program since I first saw it at SA!!! And have enjoyed watching it grow and change throughout this season!!! Congrats to Gold!!! sochi here they come!

Well said. Both duos have different styles & personalities. Viewers don't have to "hate" one in order to like the other; it's subjective. I happen to love the excitement I feel when watching D/W (& how their differing personalities mesh & create a 'raw' electricity), but I can appreciate V/M's technique. I also enjoy Weaver/Poje & look forward to better choreography for the Shibutani's (& perhaps more intensity). I've just been drawn to D/W since c. 2007: great to watch them grow/mature!
They bring an athleticism and excitement to ice-dancing the likes of no other before them in my opinion. Charlie actually reminds me a little bit of Russian pairs skating legend Artur Dmitriev- they both skate full-out with abandon, have the ability to "steal" the spotlight a little from their female partners with a dynamic and theatrical presence on the ice, and of course they both have the long hair flying everywhere, though Dmitriev was a brunette of course.
D/W have beaten V/M in the FD portion at 4 of the last 5 Worlds. Since the Compulsory Dance was eliminated, D/W have beaten V/M overall in 2/3 of the competitions. The judges and the audiences love their skating and performances. So happy to see them on top.
I didn't like the program at the beginning of the season but this performance is incredibly beautiful and competently delivered. I love how they emoted the different parts of the choreography - the subtlety of every nuanced movement/expression to interpret the music/story. Truly a gold medal performance.
I have to say "thank you" again to LaRiservaISUMondiali for posting ALL the performances from the 2013 ice-skating WC! In USA, broadcast TV will only show 2 hrs tomorrow; and none of TV stations even mentioned the D/W Gold in their 'sports' segments. Only newspapers in USA that even carried story were in Detroit, and a couple of newspapers carried Associated Press story. D/W's 2nd WC should have been headline sports news. W/out your videos, I never would have seen & enjoyed D/W, etc. Thank you!

I am not sure - I know a lot of people who are not canadians, and who didn't like this dance. But yes, many of them are Virtue/Moir fans, although not canadians. On the other hand, being a Virtue/Moir fan doesn't mean that you have to dislike this and Meryl/Charlie in general. I personally like them, and like this FD, although I am Virtue/Moir fan, and find their FD more interesting as a concept.
champion skaters these two. No one can beat them in technicality because they are both so talented... great job!
(but it still looks to me like they are battling each other for best skater and it still clashes with their sync) Just IMO :)
Other than that, couldn't be prouder!

Carmina Burana (Carl Off) - since they're into the dramatics. Les Mes - more subtle
But I really like them to do 'The Gael' - from The Last of the Mohicans! But then Marina already have everything planned and laid-out already well in advanced..

D / W enchanted audiences and commentators, and so I do not know what is the emotion that some ask for D / W, but I know that I felt ... very beautiful!
I compare them to ANISSINA PEIZERAT ...... and I would love to see D / W dancing THE MAN IN THE IRON MASK or NESSUN DORMA (TURANDO).
I don't know what the broadcasters are saying, but you can hear that they've been crying.

View an interpretation of D / W Carmina Burana ending in O FORTUNA, would be pure magic ... just thinking apotheotic the end of the dance they would create, I am thrilled.
Another option would be the song Wuthering Heights from KATE BUSH .... it would be something romantic and dramatic.

It was a really good program and performance for the both of them....but Meryl's hair distracted me flying around her neck and her face.
what is a compulsory dance?
Love them - exquisitely skated but to me it's not a dance program, it's a pairs'. They are in dance hold for only a few seconds here & there. Although I love them, I detect no passion or chemistry, but see just good mechanics. Much preferred the innovative Bise's Carmen masterpiece full of fire & passion, expression & true dance. Just my HO!
Their performance was spectacular and they're beautiful skaters, but I didn't really enjoy the choreography. I felt like I'd seen it all before, a million times already. Having said that, they skated it brilliantly, so no knock on them.
