Thanks for showing a little snippet of peds ER nursing. Peds inpatient nurse here that is pondering about changing to peds ER nursing. Any pros or cons you’d like to share or traits that make a good peds ER nurse (you mentioned flexibility as one)?
You're welcome! Honestly it depends on what you like. If you like fast paced, kind of unplanned day then this would be for you. But if one of the things you liked about the floor is predictability and the slowness to get tasks done with ease, then maybe not so much. I love excitement and the fact I never know what I'm going to get. I think that would be the biggest difference. Plus you see pretty much EVERYTHING in the ER when on the floor it's more limited because some sicker kids go to PICU, etc. Hope this helps! :)

So MANDATORY certification for most ER jobs are BLS, PALS & ACLS (sometimes optional if you're just doing peds). They reccomend CEN (certified emergency nurse) or CPEN (certified pediatric emergency nurse). But those are usually optional, I don't have those.
