It’s so relaxing watching paint get laid on. I remember other people saying white is a hard colour to paint. I am dreading my amazon it’s massive and white 🤣 Top job as ever!
Nice! As a kid, our family had a 1963 Morris Oxford in Old English White with a red leather interior. It always looked pretty classy… Can’t wait to the Frog Eye when it’s finished. 😊
Excellent work👏 That's s why I'm hoping to bring my BX to you when there's space in the workshop - it will be a considerable drive from North East England but well worth it for results like that👍
Really nice job Lewis looks amazing mate all the hard work was well worth it and it really looks lovely 👌 never painted a car before but always fancied a go so I’m hopefully gonna attempt to paint a crap car I bought as a victim ( ford streetka ) so if it turns out half bad then I’ll be very happy ! Gotta start somewhere I guess lol 👍
Hi Lewis, FYI, Octoral comes under the Valspar Automotive banner, and it looks like the parent company are the people who own House of Kolor in the USA. Incidentally, I use those Crowsfoot cloths as well, they are great aren't they? No lint at all and super absorbent. I use the UPOL slow degreaser out of preference because it stays liquid for longer so will dissolve contaminants better before it evaporates (perhaps?) and it is also better for spraying on primer to give it an artificial gloss so that you can see any ripples etc. I could see that as a pro you would maybe need the extra speed, time being money and all that. I am hoping to get down to Gaydon next week if I feel well enough, so may see you. Hope so.
when i used to paint cars it was like chill out therapy in a full downdraught the full floor was 200 mm deep pumped moving water with grids over burntwood booth i was in my own world in there
Came out stunning Lewis. I've not used any of the Octoral single stage paint, but all three of the cars I have painted have been done in Valspar basecoat using the Octoral thinners and I have no complaints at all. I think Valspar and Octoral are the same company? Anyhow, car looks fantastic.
So Lewis, how to you rate the new product then ? That's a lovely finish straight from the gun,so I'm guessing your ok with it ,I'm wondering if a slightly thinner mix and perhaps another fine coat would be as good ,still a lovely depth of colour congratulations.
10:38 Wet flatting. I had exactly the same issue with scratches when I hand flatted a recent project, failed to get them all out. Would you recommend going straight to 2000 wet on a DA or ...?
Fantastic job. I always cringe when I see a new paint job being sanded and it looks ruined initially. Btw, I think this paint colour might have suited Ben's Rover 100 on Tasty Classics.
The problem with not showing all the sanding is people see this and think their is not a lot of work in painting a car so they think you are trying to rip them off when you give them a price also people who want to have a go end up drowning in the work required and give up on the job.
Probably a daft question, out of the gun the paint looked great, why does it need all the extra sanding / work? I cannot see new cars going through such a long process. Excellent work btw.
I asked this question before. Apparently new cars just get the standard paint job done by the robots. This extra sanding and polishing is over and above and gives a mirror like finish.
New cars don't get that much time on paint and they don't have the budget to do it really. All the extra hours that are needed to get a hand done finish would be a killer. It's all done by robots and computers now to use the least amount of paint to make the most profit.
Yeah it's much harder to do lighter colours as there's less reflections to help spot things that could be going on. Same for wet flatting. Just got to take your time.

White blindness is no joke! Looks great when done though. The Volvo will be stunning
It's always a joy to watch the Jedi paint master! Thanks Lewis.
Glad you enjoy it! Not long till she's finished!
Fab job Lewis! Always love to see this kind of craftmanship! 👍🏻👍🏻🆙 One word ; flawless ! 👌
Fantastic work Lewis. This little Frogeye Sprite is gonna look wonderful once it's finished. 👍👍

Fascinating and soothing at the same time. Thank you for sharing your work! See you next time - Martin 🥰
Thank you Martin! Lovely comments as always
What a shiny Sprite. Lurvly
But what about dry paint , i ask you? 😂 Seriously though, it's absolutely beautiful!! Cheers. Leigh.
Fair play, better gun finish than most OEMs. Great work and all that prep has clearly paid off.
Thank you!
That looks great. Probably much better than when new.
They only spent a fraction of the time on the paint back in the day!
Super colour, a joy watching a skilled master craftsman with a love of his trade, some finish, the shine was amazing
It will be getting its final polish next week!
I do like the colour you chose for the Sprite a nice cream it will make those shot lines you spent a lot of time getting them perfect
Absolutely beautiful job
Thank you! Always love it when it's painted. Looks like a real car again!
I also notice this when I am working on my car, the preparation takes a lot of time, the work itself usually only takes a few minutes.
Excellent work👏 That's s why I'm hoping to bring my BX to you when there's space in the workshop - it will be a considerable drive from North East England but well worth it for results like that👍

Perfection.👍🏻

I'm not brave enough yet to try painting panels, but that day will come. In the mean time I enjoy your "training" videos lol !
You need to just get stuck in. It's the best way to learn 😊
Amazing!
Thank you! Cheers!

Not too sure if they are the same company. The guys over at IPS would be able to tell you but yes the Octoral products are very good Indeed

Brilliant work as per mate 👏
Thank you so much 😀

It does feel wrong to attack new paint but it makes the car that little bit more special to have a flawless paint job

Gets rid of the orange peel and gives a deeper shine....something frequently missing from OEM finishes, be it Ford or all the way to Ferrari.

You could buy a koala to open your phone they have human like prints;-)
life goals! Personal fingerprint koala lol
Scrap the flatting by hand just go straight to 2000 disk
intended up doing that process for the rest for the job!
Hi Lewis is it harder to do lighter colours than dark ones for contrast to spot anomalies love watching you work you are so methodical and
great
