I think Arteta's first game this season, in the community shield tells clearly what he had in mind with Havertz. He was not bought to play midfielder, but as a striker or a false nine. Gabriel's absence in the early games because of maybe transfer rumors, Zinchenko not being fit and he was the key personal the last season mind you, having the sole responsibility to invert into midfield, question marks on Jorginho's defensive aspect if employed as number 6 caused the shift of Partey into RB, Rice into 6, and Havertz into eight. Havertz midfield role was tied to Rice playing number 6, and was not an intended decision when buying him. If Havertz didn't play at number 8, what were our options there? Trossard, Smith Rowe, Viera, first of which was not suited to midfield role and later ones were not trusted enough by Arteta, and they had question marks upon them as well for various reasons. Everybody missed I think that Rice was brought as a Xhaka replacement, not Havertz. Because Rice played primarily as a number 6 while at West Ham, nobody game it much a thought and bought into the idea that he was the intended Partey replacement at number 6. But it wasn't the case in my opinion, and it is clearly evident in the first game of the season. The narrative that Havertz was bought as a Xhaka replacement, and it being a failure prompting Arteta to shift him to the striker position doesn't hold water if we look at the changes in the position behind him. And Rice playing at number 6 was not good offensively. Defensively he was excellent, but he struggled to break the midfield lines with his passes like Partey and Jorginho would. You can check the passing stats and charts from the month of December and see for yourself. Rice struggled to pass progressively and often resorted to sideways passing. And that was the month we struggled against the teams that played low to mid-block. It was after December that Jorginho was finally trusted to be the number 6, and as soon as that happened, everyone took their roles they were intended to from the start, Rice as 8, Havertz up front and the results thereafter speaks a lot. The summer signings we did this season were all brought with a very clear idea in mind, and I don't see any reason to see otherwise. Havertz at midfield was an adaptation because Arteta was unsure of Jorginho's defensive side of things. But only after Rice didn't work there, Jorgi took the spot. All eyes have been on Havertz this season from the Arsenal fans point of view and I think in doing that, we have missed the positioning of Rice. We are assuming Rice has been equally better at 6 or 8 but that shift was not an adjustment to his role, but a return to his true intended role this season. But Partey, being injured, Jorgi being not trusted early caused Rice to play as 6. And with the number 8 being empty now, Havertz was given the role there as he was the only one among our squad who could make those runs from midfied into the box.
Not just amazing football knowledge, but a seriously top quality presenter. Best thing that ever happened to the channel I see it every time I share the platform with him So good .
James, I know a lot of football fans likes Kudus, however I am not one of those sold on him. I really think he has got big talent but he can't fit in with the way Arteta plays. That is tracking back to help the defense. Everything I watch he is always at a walking pace. A case in point , at the London stadium against Tottenham, he lost possession carelessly and never tries to recover the ball. I was quite surprised by it, from then I knew he wouldn't fit our model of all out attack/ all out defense.
Rice as a 6, Odegaard as LCM, ESR type (anyone better) as RCM. Both maetinelli and Saka are getting 20+ goals. It also allows the fullbacks to hold width, rice ensures defensive strengths and the cm have the responsibility for creativity
In: Sesko, Onana/Luiz/Fofana/Kimmich, Hato, Olise/Nico Williams, backup gk Out: Reiss Nelson, Partey, Ramsdale, Cedric, Nketiah, Elnenny, Tierney Depending on the players we get in the summer, reassess the situation in Jan. If we dont have too many injuries I'd consider loan moves for ESR and Viera, possibly selling Jesus and Zinny if the right offers come in - unless we're still competing in all competitions.
In my opinion, I don't think Arteta has structured the setup of the team and it's style of play to remain exactly the same for two seasons in a row, and as such it's like the team is constantly evolving and getting better by becoming comfortable with having more than one approach within their locker. With this in mind I would dearly love to see the proposed recruitment of Sesko, Neves and Diomande (Gyokeres, Onana, Hato my preferred alternatives) become a reality in order for Arteta to revisit both the dedicated 3 at the back structure, in tandem with the box midfield we've used on the odd occasion this year, as I'm convinced that the resulting football would be a sublime mixture of the defensive proficiency and measured stability we displayed throughout last season, along with the more fluent and exciting off the cuff instinctive type football from the season before.
As a city supporter I would say the premier league title for arsenal is somewhere around the corner, maybe in the next 2-3 seasons.. arsenal is winning it for sure. Because the quality of football is improving and evolving
The integrity of the premiership is compromised because of the 115 charges against man city. That has taken to long?.Other teams had points deduction. The fact that the uk government has admitted that its embassy in Abu Dhabi have discussed the 115 charges against man city but are refusing to disclose the correspondence because it could risk the U.K. relationship with UAE. This asks the question is the British government taking an economic bribe, investment into the British economy by the UAE. Time will tell. If so would you vote for a government like that?.How you do anything is how you do everything.
Our points tally this season would have won five titles and lost two on goal difference between 2009 and 2016. So yeah. City have long since changed the standard required to win it (just ask Liverpool), but I think we will get it over the line next season.
