    For those who may concern, Daiwa cut part of the gear box then use a plastic plate there instead of whole metal gearbox. I do not why they prefer this design, but once I know it, I sold the 23tatula immediately. Tatula 150 is more solid made.

    • @TTangOutdoors
      @TTangOutdoors Місяць тому

      Thanks for the info! I have not had the need to open up the gear box side but assumed it's all metal. It does feel pretty solid tho. The rotation is really smooth and quiet.

    • @techd9861
      @techd9861 Місяць тому

      @@TTangOutdoors actually you do not have to open the gearbox, you can check the side wall of the gearbox next to the spool. You can easily see the gearbox is not a whole piece of metal. It is where you put your ring finger when you are holding it. I hate to point it out, but once I know it, I know it. The reel is good, I prefer the older version.

    Hey nice review! Any thoughts on this vs the 2020 sv tw? Was thinking of which one to get for 1/2oz and up lures. Thanks!

    • @TTangOutdoors
      @TTangOutdoors 7 місяців тому +1

      Thanks for the comment! The SV has the same frame as the Elite shown in the video but with a smaller spool. I think for a 1/2oz lure or up you probably want the regular tatula or the elite cuz they use the regular Magforce brake good for distance and heavier lure. If I only have one reel to cover multiple weight and applications I would go with the SV.... very good at handling light and heavy lure. I'm gonna use the 23 Tatula 100 for frogging and swim bait.

    • @bwFuture107
      @bwFuture107 7 місяців тому

      @@TTangOutdoors Thanks for the info! My only concern about the sv is the line capacity, I'm planning to spool 40lbs braid on it. Btw does the 23 tatula backlash easily? Im new to bait casting so that's another consideration for me

    • @TTangOutdoors
      @TTangOutdoors 7 місяців тому +2

      @@bwFuture107 yes you're right, SV spools do have a shallower depth but it's not that bad. I was able to spool maybe 100 yards on my 103 size SV spool with 30 pound braid. Use Japanese braid they are thinner but still strong. I have not used the 23 Tatula yet, where I am in Canada it's very cold and ice fishing season. Casting review will have to wait till Spring! You're not gonna go wrong with the 23 tatula, just don't adjust the tension knob, only adjust the magnetic dial. A lot of new Daiwa users don't understand how easy it is to tune it in... The zero adjuster tension knob is carefree. Your casting motion with the rod is more important to avoid backlash, it takes some practice but Daiwa reels make it easy for beginners!

    The lighter spring on the inductor cup will probably allow the new tatula 100 to cast lighter baits into the wind better. But I think with the new 100 there's practically no reason to pay extra for the elite unless you want your spool tension knob to be metal rather than plastic. I almost think daiwa might raise the price to $200 once they realize that. I haven't been a fan of Daiwa's price hikes in the last 3-4 years so I've been going with Shimano that gets you more for your money.

    Hi, I was wondering if this new Tatula have the clicking drag when you hold the spool like the higher-end Daiwa's? Not the drag star clicker but the drag in it self when big fish pulls. Anyways, great open box review! Keep it up!

      Nope this new Tatula 100 doesn't have a drag clicker and I'm not surprised. The lowest end Daiwa with the clicking drag is the Salamandura SV TW 70

  • @andrescruz9448

    I looked into this reel a bit more as I have the previous 100 and it seems Daiwa's marketing for this reel is false/misleading. They claim the pinion gear has dual bearing support however at 2:55 when you inspected the parts schematic you can see that the pinion gear(45) lacks the extra protrusion/nipple past the gear teeth and only rides on a single frame bearing(32). It might mate up against the spool tension knob bearing(47) but that is what your spool shaft rides in. For a true dual supported pinion you'd have to refer to their Zillion's pinion gear, a shimano curado, or even a lew's p2 super pinion that has the extra protrusion past the teeth so that it can ride in a bearing. Now I'm not in any hurry to upgrade.

    Hi any thoughts on which reel is better ? Is it tatula tw80 or the tatula 100 2023

    • @TTangOutdoors
      @TTangOutdoors 6 місяців тому +1

      I haven't fished with the new 100 yet but I fished the 80 last year. In terms of the ability to cast lighter lure I think they may perform similarly. The 100 spool is actually 1 gram lighter than the 80... but the 80 spool takes less line so might end up the same weight as 100 or lighter. I wasn't about to cast the 80 far and I think 100 is probably further casting. Both reels are comfortable to hold but if you have smaller hands the 80 is definitely better to palm. You got me thinking about doing a casting comparison between the 100 and 80.

    • @techd9861

      Do not buy tatula 2023 if you want a solid reel. Daiwa cut the gear box plate and use a plastic plate to cover the hole. I sold mine as soon as I got it.

    Just like the Tatula 80, what's drawn in the diagram is not actually a dual support pinion only single support. Thanks for showing the diagram but it was a letdown for me. Great reel otherwise.

    • @TTangOutdoors
      @TTangOutdoors 7 місяців тому

      When I got the 80 I saw on Daiwa Japan website they clearly excluded the dual pinion support feature from the hyperdrive design which I talked about in my 80 review video. Yes, the diagram can be inaccurate and I have yet to open up any BC reel gear box. This is important facts that Daiwa marketing can get away with unless someone opens up the reel and show to the world, yet most people just don't bother to care.
      I do have the 70 size as well which is supposed to have the dual support and in the hand it feels the same as I turn the 80 reel... might not be an obvious feel.

    • @mjc1535
      @mjc1535 7 місяців тому +1

      I'm probably still going to get the new 100. But yeah it's just disappointing knowing that Daiwa would market it that way. With the handle side plate being aluminum it has strength and added sensitivity so for ordinary use the dual support is really not needed but it's a feature I always want in a reel.

      Have you used any recent zillion or Steez models with the SV boost models? They are very compact now and the 2 staged breaking is pretty worry free. I agree the older frames are bulk and not comfortable to palm. I heard the idc4 DC models like the Shimano SLX DC is so overbreaked you can't cast far at all... @@TTangOutdoors yup they are a bit better for palming but still a bit bulky for my liking that one reason I barely touch my conquests . Which DC tho? IDC5 is much better than IDC4 for distance. I'd take a DC any day just for the ease of use and backlash free. Price can be a little be high compare to Daiwa SV.
