+1 for using an HP scope :-)
(of course it's HP->Agilent->Keysight, but you know)
I have a TATA How does a tube amp work
Jarser - I already have a video on that very topic: ua-cam.com/video/_170IlG9iic/v-deo.html
Hearing Collin saying "worm" in Scottish accent has awaken something inside me.
the wurum
Your inner werrm?
Came for the pedal review, stayed for the At the Gates cover. Sick
Those vocals were insane, man!!! That was beautiful!!
Now that is how you demo an HM-2 style pedal. Sick cover dude.
That death metal demo segment was absolutely fucking awesome
It’s sounds like the guitar sound that Carnage and entombed had back in the early 90’s. Really mid crunchy! Love it!
HM-2 video! I'm all over it just to marvel at the horror.... its like slowing down to look at a particularly gory car crash
Honestly I'm so glad I found about this pedal right now, it's the most menacing thing I've ever heard. Definitely a great pedal to break the monotony with
Found myself laughing out-loud within the first 30s. You've outdone yourself in this one. Thank you, Collin. Can I like the video twice? Oh, yes I can ;)
Your vocals have a nice strong peaty tone.
Killer performance! Hadn’t heard you sing before! Pedal sounds great too!
Now I want a wuram.... And a Laphroaig!
The Spice. You Opened It. We Came.
There was an Australian comedy show in the 90s that had a Scottish cast member. They had a segment called 'Words That Sound Better When Said By Dave', and they just simply got him to say various words in his accent. As simple as it was, it was hilarious.
I just found this channel by stumbling across your Blues Driver video. Was not expecting death metal complete with vocals. Subscribed.
I'm always fascinated by how informative are your videos. I like that you put so much scientific explanation into these but always manage to keep it understandable. Your videos help a lot of people to use their gear properly. Keep it up!
P. S. : the vocals were insanely good!
Not fond of this pedal, but your review was amazing. I love the way you analyze the electronics to better explain the effects on the sound, the spectrum graphs only add up to this and this is truly unique. Can't wait to see more!
Wurrum. I love that pronunciation. :)
The “Wurrum” is going to be a big hit with those metallists who need to make their guitar tone strip paint off the walls while reducing the surviving members of the audience to gibbering wrecks. If it was not invented by a Scotsman, it should have been...
love the mouth spray graphic when indicating what was used for vocals! always nice to sing with a mint scented breath
Eh, that's a bottle of single malt whisky.
Your glorious pronunciation of Wurm sounds like what someone from St Louis would answer if you ask them "what do you do with clothes?" - "You wurr 'em."
The at the gates cover was so sick
Love that line underneath your name at intro. Nice little add there, boyo.
vocals: whiskey + mic
oh colin, never change
Wow even the vocals have a wurmish sound! well done
I actually really dig your vocals man!
As always Colin... this voice... awesome mate!
I love the vocal chain. And everything sounds great in a scottish accent.
Thanks for the demo ! Gonna have to get me one now.
Love how you use the oscilloscope. Keep up the good work!
That guitar tone in the BBF mix is insanely good, super heavy and clean and thick af. Keep it up🔥
boy thats a sinister sounding pedal. great content Collin!
It made me very happy to see a schematic depiction of the EQ at 1:52.
Ordered this pedal off this review, and love it. Love your in depth pedal reviews.
I never, and I do mean never, get tired of that guitar sound! It just soothes my very soul!
I love how you are running your metal vocals through the Wurm2 as well.
Sick demo 🤘🏾
Super articulated growl!
great video. thank you very much!
@CSGuitars Those vocals were fucking sick. Downright bestial. Keep it up, sick playing too.
Excellent vocal processing.
You sir are extremely talented!
my favorite hm2 "clone" is the grindstein at the moment, has some really cool boost and simple distortion as well
thanks for the great demo!!!👍Man,that's a killer track.
YO! I didn't know you could scream! You sound great! sick cover dude!
Would've been great to hear it in the FX loop. Crazy good vocals on that At the Gates cover...
I'm so happy my love for how certain words (most words tbh but some in particular) sound so good in a Scottish accent was validated by the man himself
I don't think I'd kick this dude out of a band 😆.... Very Cool Video!
Don't do it, unless you wanna get yer head bitten off by the WURRUM!
I wish you did more videos 🤘🙂
That cover is fire !
Got a like just for the At The Gates throwback :)
As an American I’m a big fan of accent-specific-2-syllable words. “No” in Australia, “film” in Ireland, etc…
Not as much of a death metal/black metal player myself but from what I’ve heard from friends (and ok, the builder is also a friend), you should check out the Heavier Metal by Bearamps if you’re wanting to dig in even more to your HM2 obsession.
Wow, I assume that song near the end is your original? If so it's incredible and just flat out awesome. I'd buy the album
Damn! That's heavier than a buffalo's bollocks.
Best vocal signal chain ever
I chuckled at the led comment
I turn on some gear and turn the lights off and it looks like a light show
CollintheGates
Well thank you for that anazing song. It was a pleasant surorise 🤟🤘🤟🤘
Great video! nothing more to say really, just feeding the algorithm wurrum
Good stuff
I've got the original, which seems to be functionally the same, but less convenient location for the EQ toggle (dip switches inside), and a bigger case with side jacks. It's by far my favorite HM based circuit I own. The smaller footprint on the 2 alone might sell me though.
Hopefully they do the same with the Dead Stag before I buy one of those 😂
@sepherus thanks for the nice words, means a lot❤ def can say that we won't be releasing a smaller Dead Stagg (you should also look at the new CHEIF DISRUPTOR though) 🙂
@@KMAMachines well then, I'll just have to get a big one. The Disruptor is very cool, but there is just a certain gnarly quality that the Stag has that I love. I kick myself regularly for not picking one up before the 2020 Gearmageddon the industry still hasn't recovered from.
I was guilty of collecting anything that was a clone of the HM-2, but I eventually realised that all I really needed was the 5 originals I already had, so I sold nearly all the other pedals except the Pepers Pedals clone, which is fantastic.
Can't sing without Liquid Confidence! At least the man has real taste, given his heritage.
I love the sound doubled with fuzz. Just saying. Hm-2 is good for #stonerrock jussayin
all the terror!
🤘
every time he says "worm" i can't not think of William Wallace's buddy that likes throwing rocks.
I need one!
A Wurm or a Laphroig?
@@alastor1052 both 😆
Colin I havnae got a souI, I live in Berwick upon Tweed
You know berwick is neither one nor the other
Can I still buy the pedal or will I be sent to purgatory?
( that’s about 1/2 mile along the tweed I believe)
Thanks for the info Colin 👍👍
I only came to hear you pronounce it. I was not disappointed ;) next time, can you please review sth like a "purple burglar alarm"?
Difficult! Wurm2 or the Boss HM2-wazaaaaa?
The Wurrum seems a bit more versatile to me...
Do you recommend a noisegate? Or is the noisefloor acceptable without using one?
Curious - what was your vocal chain on that? Also, wondering if you think it'll work with Cognac as well as it does with whiskey?
The whisky is mostly there to prevent my technique from getting into my throat and causing damage. It's all diaphragm work, so I want to keep it down there. Numbing the throat for some reason helps.
The actual chain is the Lewitt LCT 640 TS to the interface and once in the DAW I've stacked up a compressor, EQ and a touch of TS808 overdrive - a very common trick for getting vocals to sit.
The main vocal is dry and down the centre, then there are two further takes panned out with reverb and delay added and set much lower in the mix. The result is one cohesive massive sounding vocal.
@@ScienceofLoud amazing. Cheers. I've never heard of using an 808. I use a VST called CamelCrusher. I also double track for fatness, but I give it a bit more reverb and have it low in the mix directly behind the lead with delay on the lead. I'll try having my lead drier and delay on my fattener, thanks again.
Blinded by fear smokes!
mate you fucking THRALLed in that at the gates demo
At the Gates , nice band , I've seen them twice , in 1995 !!!!
At 1 concert they even played on my 2 amplifiers
(HH Electronics Performer 150W & Kustom III Lead Guitar Amp)
(Jan 29 , 1995 , Beerse Belgium)
No seriously.. it sounds really great when you say WURM.
Amazing vocals dude. How’d you learn to do that.
Just bought one of these not too long ago.
You can get some absolutely disgusting tones palm muting with the low knobs turned up high, which I'm not finding in the video anywhere. Big, beefy, C-H-U-G-S
Yasss 🤘🏼
When should we expect to see the SG Repair Part 2? I have to say your video on fixing that SG was a bit of an epiphany for me about the “value” of Gibson & other guitars. Now, in my opinion the SG is not exactly a super expensive guitar so in my mind unless it’s a Les Paul SG from 61-63, or a true vintage otherwise, it doesn’t really seem worth it to repair. BUT this is where your video made me realize that while you can pick up a new SG for a reasonable price depending on the amount of repair required it is still worth it to repair a “modern” SG because like every guitar that is over $1,000.00 US it’s not about how much you spend to replace it but about that guitar’s history, that guitar’s “mojo” and yes the fact that it’s a Gibson. I would say the same would apply to an American Strat, a Martin or Taylor acoustic etc. Really any of the “higher-end”, even their lower-end models, are worth repairing because often times they have a history and a story & even if they don’t you can always fall back on their brand name. Plus, if you pick the broken “husk” up cheap enough it then can become a great project that you can take pride in once it’s done. Now, I am personally not a luthier and I barely properly replaced all of the Quick Connect electronics with a hand-wired harness with 500K CTS pots, Vitamin T paper-in-oil caps, Switchcraft toggle and jack (so every hardware item is 100% what Gibson uses in the factory only the capacitors are unique/“after-market”) in my SG, but if you’re either interested in giving wood working a whirl or are a good luthier then it becomes a project worthwhile for the sake of the project itself.
It took me a second to realize that you were saying "Dune" instead of "June" lol
Yes I totally understand all about frequencies and Hz uh huh oh also as a side note that pedal is brutal af
Have you heard the Doomsaw by Does it Doom?
I wonder if the HM-2 parasite will mutate into getting EMG 57 66
Bless the maker and his water, shai hulud
the laphroaig sounds a little fizzy , maybe too much gain.
Quite an interesting take, this pedal. I'd like to hear it tweaked to the extremes.
Also, I ruined the like count by being the 667th like... Sorry? 😅
Do this with the 5150 Overdrive...
(Un)Holy fuck yeah!
I have the original Japanese HM2 in more or less mint condition, complete with manual and box and a bronze plaque stating it was the 3 millionth unit ever made.
All on 10, ok isn't it ?
Nice review, even tho, this pedal seems kinda outdated with the existance of the Guardian of the Wurm, wich is much more complete.
Discord squaaaaad!
Squaaaaaaad
Aaaaaaaaaaayyyyy 😎
I believe the plural is “hagga”
Just get the HM-2w
Can u try some meshuggah?
👽i think u dont need a pedal for metal👹🤟🏿
I miss your accent when you growl ahah
that's not going in my collection, simply dont like it, but great video, always great rewiews!!
simply morphing into Jack White 😅
What the "Wadumn"?
I think the MXR Fullbore metal pedal is a suitable bypass for these 2 pedals lmao
