I can kind of see where Topanga is coming from. If you really care about someone you don't need a "test" to see how your feelings are. Lets face it, Topanga is the girl who had guys drool all over her, and she never steered away from Cory because she knew she loved him.
shogun harlem The thing is, how could she have trust in him or the relationship after he went on a date with another woman? How could she be certain he would never have doubts again? If seeing one other woman he liked made him doubt that much, how will other women make him feel? Because he will meet other fantastic people in the world. She would always have that insecurity and fear now. Great for him, he learnt something big. But that learning was at the cost of the trust between them and her feelings.
+shogun harlem (Bigsexy1234567) this is exactly why they shouldn't have just stayed together because they were "meant to be" or "been in love since [they] were babies". Not only is the latter half completely untrue, but this is why you should date more than one person in your life. I can't stand people who play games like this and Topanga was really annoying between this and projecting her own feelings about her parents' divorce onto her and Cory.
This breakup was done beautifully on the show. Realistic, heartbreaking, and fair to both characters and their shared history. Great show when I was a kid, and still holds up
she did set it up, but he SHOULDN'T have went out with the other girl anyway. like she said, "do you know how many guys hit on me? i never needed to test my feelings for you." he was in the wrong, IMO.
I think it goes both ways. Like she insisted and then expected him to just do the "right thing". Why did she insist then? Like honestly she can't judge him for not being sure about their relationship because she is the one who didn't trust him. If she trusted him, she wouldn't have felt the need to test him for no reason. So it was her fault for the breakup but she just victimized herself. Trust is important in a relationship just as much as love is.
Ritika Mandi I agree that she should have been honest with him and not tried to “test” him because that’s exactly what he did to her. But how could she trust him when he literally cheated on her and broke that trust? I don’t think it’s her fault. It’s both of theirs but more so his fault since he’s the one who started this whole mess by talking to another girl in the first place. He shouldn’t even be thinking about being with another girl when he has a girlfriend.
Here’s the kicker to this though, he told Topanga repeatedly that he didn’t want to see Lauren or go out with her, she forced him into a lose/lose situation. Not defending him, just pointing things out
Yes!! They're acting chops here were SUPERB and definitely underrated. I would be exactly how Corey acts if I'm about to lose the one I love. Nervous jitters, putting his arms around her, distraught at what he knows is coming... It's absolutely heartbreaking for both characters and so real. They should have won awards with this scene alone.
All rights go to the BMW Wikipedia page: Disney-ABC Domestic Television (sister company to Touchstone Television, now ABC Studios) currently handles the syndication rights to the series. Boy Meets World reruns began airing on various FOX, WB, UPN, and independent affiliates from 1997 to 2000. During the latter month, Disney Channel assumed syndication rights, with the series running on the cable channel until 2007. To the consternation of some longtime fans of the show, Disney Channel edited many episodes that contained scenes with suggestive content deemed inappropriate for the channel's target audience of 7- to 14-year-olds. All 158 episodes aired during the series' initial run on the Disney Channel, however due to the adult subject matter and complaints from parents, Disney Channel omitted three episodes from later airings: season five's "If You Can't Be with the One You Love..." (due to its depictions of underage drinking) and "Prom-ises, Prom-ises" (whose main storyline involves Cory and Topanga contemplating losing their virginity on the night of their prom), and season six's "The Truth About Honesty" (due to its sexual references).[9] On May 5, 2014, the show temporarily returned to the network after a seven-year absence to promote Girl Meets World.[10] ABC Family has aired Boy Meets World from June 21, 2004 to August 31, 2007 and again from April 12, 2010 to December 2, 2015.[11] Though the network in a way inherited the syndication rights to the show from Disney Channel, the episode prints broadcast by ABC Family differed from those seen on Disney Channel and in broadcast syndication as it incorporated scenes cut from the Disney Channel broadcasts (though small portions of certain scenes from episodes during the earlier seasons were cut due to time constraints) and featured the three episodes that Disney chose not to air, incorporated each season's corresponding opening title sequence, and restored the placement of the teaser scenes during the season one episodes to running before the opening titles in the manner that they were shown in the original ABC telecasts (instead of having the cast and creators' names shown during the teasers). However, the program was dropped once ABC Family was rebranded as Freeform. The series also began airing on MTV2 since November 14, 2011, again with the original opening title sequences intact.[12] That's your answer right there
@@rnopes21 That is not true. Well not based on this - since men are the mainly the ones that hit on somebody it by default renders women the ones being waaaay more hit on even if both are in the same league
The small smirk afterwards. Only real life experience could let you know what that means! Especially in the context of how Corey handled the situation owft
@E Even average women get hit on a lot more than say a extremely model like looking dude by the nature of how men and women operate. Women have higher standards on average than a men. Many men are more motivated by sexual feelings while women seek more of a emotional connection. From my experience male friends I have will f#ck just about anything as long as it is a viable option. However I knew this 1 female coworker who had crooked teeth and was shaped like a bowling ball and her standards were high af only hitting on dudes who looked like they took care of their bodies and were muscular or handsome to most women. Some guys at my job would even tell me if I could put in a good word cuz they wanted to take her out so they potentially could smash. And these men were in their 40s, married it was weird... Most women think they are 10s when in reality that is not the case. It is because they are constantly validated by thirsty, dusty men in MOST cases. The illusion of make up also gases them up gives them a false sense of being more attractive. A girl I knew looked completely different in her snapchat stories and I even told her who tf is that? She said it was her and it looked nothing like her in real life. Society and social media is def changing how a lot of us men and women operate or how we see ourselves in positive and negative ways...
They never dated anyone else. Neither knew that even Topanga she was just hurt and was lashing out. How do you know you want the other person and no1 else when the other person is all you have known. Topanga was just a silly little girl playing house and wasnt ready for the reality of true feelings.
@@brettt141 it's not necessary. If you have somethin good you don't risk it on the hopes of having somethin great. Great isn't promised. It's not worth finding out. A bird in the hand...
You know what? Topanga was right to dump Cory. The fact that Cory needed to go have a date with Lauren after meeting her once just to see if he still wanted to be with Topanga is very insulting.
lmao.. yea but when girls can go on dates we men are supposed to suck it up right? and continue the chase in order to keep our true love. Dont give me that BS it works both ways.
Im sure she would have been hit on at least 100x more than that Curley headed bozo, yet one girl made him question his love? He deserved to be dumped and alone. Moron.

@@richardgrace5043 I don't think you're understanding. she wanted to see if he would say yes to the date with this other girl. if he would say yes to testing his feelings for this girl and his feelings for topanga. he was supposed to say no. thats what she wanted to hear, but he instead agreed. Even Shawn told him not to go, and he still went. even as a 12 year old when I watched this, I knew no one should say yes to going on a date with someone else to test your feelings for your significant other, even if they told you. its literal common sense that they're giving you a choice and want you to say no. you should never have to if you truly love your significant other. after the date, he straight up told her that he loves her completely NOW, as if he never truly did before or was unsure. which I think was the main reason topanga did this. it hurts when topanga has always been sure about him her entire life. so many guys have hit on her and it took only one girl to sway him. and it was only now, after going on a date with this other girl, did he finally realize how much he loves topanga. also I don't think topanga has ever done anything like what Cory did here. she was always loyal to him. if you're talking about the time with Ricky, they were broken up at the time.
Lauren kissed cory knowing he had a girl and also knowing she was on the trip with him. That chick was foul. Still, cory shoulda had more self control. Topanga went against her parents and snuck back to philly from Pittsburgh to be with him. Very selfish of him to question his love for her..
SHE LITERALLY FORCED HIM TOO. Cory LITERALLY told her a thousand times that he didn't have feelings for that girl. And she acted stupid. If you ask me cory is innocent
@@jaylenharris2971 she didn't "literally force him". I don't agree with you at all. Seriously, Topanga trusted him with her life, she knew him that well that she would never get jealous over stupid things. Even when she thought he had been honest, she forgave him and she was fine until she found the letter. Cory lied to her, how do you think it feels when the person you trust the most lies to you? Topanga asking him to see Lauren had to be done, I'm sorry. Guys don't need to have feelings for other women to cheat or to get confused. Women are much more honest with themselves when it comes to feelings and they don't just go out with other guys just to test how much they love someone else.
This situation may be complicated for a man to understand, but Cory was wrong for this. A woman would never go on a date with another man to test her feelings for her boyfriend, if so then that is a clear indication that woman isn't in love with the boyfriend. It was insulting for Cory to even entertain the idea of going out with that other girl Lauren. If he really loved Topanga no other woman could take his attention away from her. Temptation is hard to resist but true love overcomes all barriers and all of this could've been avoided. Topanga wasn't in the wrong, Cory was.
Yeah he DID start drinking. He was so down about losing Topanga he drank to erase the emotional pain. This show has a million things we can all relate to.
When you lose the only person you can see yourself loving, it hits hard. I was constantly crying focusing on easiest way for suicide. Took a year to find any reason to be happy. I still love her, but I know it wasn't what we needed, love isn't always enough.
+Paolo Torres-One of the better things about GMW was that at one point, Cory and Topanga were reminded of Lauren at one point and they admitted to their children that was a challenge in their relationship that nearly destroyed it entirely. Cory and Topanga were both willing to admit what they did wrong to handle the situation at the time and regretted how they chose to handle it. They didn't regret that it made them stronger, and after 18 years and two kids, Cory hadn't thought of Lauren at all anymore. She was just a "ghost" from his past and meant nothing to him, he had all he wanted and needed with Topanga and his two kids.
I feel like Topanga was actually giving Cory the freedom to choose what he really wanted. He made his choice, then tried to turn back after the fact. It's kind of a slap in the face honestly
@Heidi eh it felt dishonest and like a trick to me. Why not just tell him that she thinks they should break up once she found out about the girl? Give her reasons and then move on. The whole 'go on the date' with a girl he has a crush on. Of course he's gonna have a nice time. That's silly. I mean it was a test that he didn't even know he was on. To me dishonest and not necessary.
@Heidi You act like they just started dating lol. They'd been in a monogamous relationship for years at this point. Like the Cory and Lauren hangout prior to this was already an issue lol. Like why ok a date if it's already clear that he likes her. And she could have easily communicated all of what you said to him without having him go on the date. It almost gave him a sense of false hope. I feel like the lack of communication prior to the date was an issue for me. And if she communicated all of what you said above, the date scenario wouldn't have needed to happen. He's not 12 lol, he's like 17 here. I'm sure if she communicated her feelings prior to the date he would have understood he hurt her. But if that's not an issue for you lol then fine. It's ok for us to disagree. I personally see the date as a weird test that didn't need to happen.

I get where Topanga is coming from. In all their years together, Topanga has never, once shown interest in anybody but Cory, even though she gets attention, on a daily bases from other guys. The fact that Cory gets a little attention from one girl and starts to compare or equate that feeling to the way he feels about Topanga, shows that she loves him way more than he loves her. Her telling him to spend time with Lauren, is her giving him the chance to say "NO" and choose her (over just one girl), the same way that she chooses him over other guys everyday. Topanga can't understand how Cory could even think about being with anyone else because she can't imagine being with anyone but Cory.
Yeah it was wrong completely he went to her but Topanga has been desensitized to guys talking to her since it’s common for women to get attention from many men. It’s not the same for men since they rarely have women approach them and get rejected
@BeautyQueen2023Xhe was supposed to say no i don’t need to go out with another girl to know how much i feel for you that’s not what you do when you truly love someone she would never do that
I was confused about this episode as a kid as well. Confused that Corey listened. Even as a 12-year-old Aspie with zero social skills, some alarm system in my brain went off when Corey was all "Hey, I like Topanga, but this other chick is kinda hot. Think I'm gonna chill with her for a bit." Even when Topanga was telling Corey to do it, I still felt like "Bro, don't do it! It's kind of a stupid idea to investigate your feelings for a girl when you're already in a relationship. Because you're already in a relationship. You don't break it off cuz you meet someone else. What, you're gonna marry and get divorced every time you meet someone with bigger...hair?"
When she stood up and hugged him when he started to yell... I feel like that shows she knew he was hurting and scared and so was she, but she had to stick to her guns. Such amazing acting.
My favorite part about this scene has always been the hug. The sense that Knew that he needed to be loved in that moment, even if she was not going to be with him. The fact that she knew him so well that his anger did not scare her. It’s a beautiful scene.
+LoveRoryandJess GMW has its moments, but its still nothing like this. I enjoy GMW, because I love the evolution of what I grew up on with BMW. However its tie to the original actually might be what makes it kinda be a downer. Yes it has its own identity, and provides something for parents (old BMW viewers) and a new generation however there's a feeling of expectation to be met. Look at it like this Cory came from a good home, and depite having Mr. Feeny have more screen time then his own parents, you knew there were multiple outlets for Corey to turn to for learning a lesson. Now look at Riley (yes the show may actually be moreso focused on Mya, but here me out)... Riley comes off less in flaud. Having Corey Matthews & Topanga Laurence as your parents are like taking the best of 2 worlds. Add in the fact that her father has taken over the Feeny role, and its like... when does she learn? She comes off as more developed to give a solution to Mya's problems with ease because of this. GMW is a good show, yet it should of been used to reveal more about Topanga being less flaud to help be a good mother towards a coming of age Riley who would moreso have questions rather feel the need to have answers. But thats just my opinion
DXtreme mWe I completely agree with this. If anything, Maya is the main character because we're always dealing with her problems and even when that happens with her or some other character, it's done in such a poor way.
He also knew because he tried to say hi to Topanga and she just walked away. Topanga wouldn't have acted that way towards Shawn under normal circumstances. He knew immediately. He knows the 2 of them better than they know themselves.
I didn't fully understand Topanga's perspective until I substituted some elements of this situation. Imagine if Topanga told Cory to have sex with Lauren and he did. Cory would've been dead wrong undoubtedly lost Topanga for good Lesson: If your spouse gives you permission to explore intimate feelings with another person, DO NOT DO IT! lol
Cory initially refused to date Lauren but Topanga insisted. If Topanga had said "Hey Cory, maybe you should date her..." to which Cory says "Sure thing, babe. Later," then yes, she would be in the right. Thing is, that's not what happened. And let's not compare a single date to fucking.
wyssmaster but basically Topanga is saying there is nothing that anyone including Cory could say or do to make her test how much she truly cares for him. Because she already knows how much she loves him. If you truly love someone you shouldn't need a test to verify. Which is why she said in the end "and you listened" he automatically failed because he needed to test out how much he truly cared for her. When he should have already known.
Sounds to me like Topanga's the one who had her faith shaken. Corey came back to her more confident than ever in his love for her. Now she's like, "Ehhhhhh, maybe we're not as in love as we thought. See ya." Weak as fuck from her.
Corey: "I could dream of the perfect girl and I know she wouldn't even come close to you." Also Corey: I needed to date another girl to know if you were the one for me.
Lol I’m 24 and it took me years to understand this episode but you should never have to test your feelings or your love for someone. This episode is deep.
I get it. Loyalty is when you have many options but choose to stay with your partner regardless. As soon as Cory had anothet option he jumped ship to "explore". She deserved better than him
I mean she said she didn't need to test him but her telling him to go out with Lauren was literally a test. She's no better than him in terms of testing each other/their feelings
As painful as this breakup was to watch as a kid, I have to commend MJ on the masterpiece that is Corpanga! This could have been the end. Even now the comment section is so full of people getting angry, taking sides, saying who was wrong, but the thing is...Cory and Topanga had to be tested in order to be real. Yes, there were other people vying for their attention, distance, and people who thought they were too young, but the biggest obstacle in any relationship is always overcoming ourselves. Cory wasn’t used to being wanted the way Topanga was. No one ever actively pursued him for HIM until Lauren. That was the first time Cory realized someone else could or would want him. He wasn’t wrong to be confused or blinded by that. He learned a valuable lesson by falling for Topanga’s test here. But Topanga was also right to end the relationship when he did. Because she had lessons to learn too. She had never let herself explore any other option. Cory was safe, familiar, comfortable, and easy to be with up until that point. But would she still choose him when it wasn’t? Was he really the love of HER life? And that is what makes their story so unique and epic while still being one of the healthiest relationships ever out on TV. Because when they saw the other growing away from the relationship, they could have turned toxic and they didn’t.
I must say this is a very fair and balanced way to look at this situation. Pointing out the mistakes either one made and why one was justified for doing the things they did. It's a nice execution of empathy and boundaries
Everyone thought they were this strong mature couple but for Cory to stay up all night talking to Lauren, kiss, and fall for her and for Topanga to tell Cory to do something she didn't mean as a form of "testing" him (and for him to listen) was immature on both of their parts. I think this situation showed their youthfulness and that they were still immature in certain parts of their relationship. They weren't adults yet and hadn't gone through real temptation that can come with being in a relationship and for once I agreed with Amy that if Cory was unsure then he should explore his feelings for Lauren. I think that Topanga would have really been the "perfect" person if she had the carefree attributes of Lauren that would make him step out of his comfort zone. This was probably the best topic BMW did.
I love how this is so iconic and people are fighting who's right. She forgave for Lauren and gave a choice - You're committed or not. People take Cory's side because he came back to Topanga. But by going on a date with Lauren, he indicated that there was a chance he may not come back. We're humans and of course can be attracted to more than one person at a time. But if you feel the need to explore outside of the relationship, then something is off. And these two really needed that time apart. This was an epic show.
To all the people saying that she told him to go ... what was she supposed to do? Tell him not to go? Ask her boyfriend to not go on a date with another girl? If you have to do that, the relationship is already over. If she told him to not go on the date she would have forever wondered if Cory was only with her because she restricted him. If she told him to go on the date and he did, she would always know that Cory made the conscious decision to debate her value over a girl he met for one night (even if he picked her, the fact that it was ever a question after all those years is hurtful). Truly, Topanga’s best chance was to give him freedom and hope he knew her value enough to not take it.
@@katiecaddle209agreed. I side with Topanga on this but she isn’t blameless, this is very similar to an episode of the cosby show. Sandra and Elvin are married, Elvin has two female friends come into town and they want to hang out with him for the night, Rlvin tells Sandra about this and Sandra tells him it’s ok for him to go (she secretly doesn’t want him to go) so Elvin goes, and when he returns home she’s mad at him. Sandra’s parents find out about this and even Sandra’s mother calls her (her own daughter) out on not being honest about how she felt about it. This applies to Topanga as well, but just like Elvin and Sandra (it was stupid for Elvin to go) I understand where Topanga is coming from.
Disney did not make boy meets world. It was ABC Studios. Disneys shows have terrible acting. Boy Meets World should have gotten like 60 emmys. Lol. But i cried watching this. I watched this whole season today.
Michael jacobs and april kelly made boy meets world. Just because something is shown on a television station doesn't mean they own it or made it. Writers and producers pay fees to broadcaster, i.e. abc studios or the 'parent' station disney to play a show. But they don't release any ownership of their original work. Give credit where credit is due fans
BMW was originally broadcasted on ABC as part of their TGIF lineup that consisted of the shows such as, Perfect Strangers, Family Matters, etc. Disney acquired ABC in 1995. BMW was still under ABC control when it initially debuted a few years prior. So, technically, it wasn't really a Disney show; it simply inherited the show when it acquired the network.
This show was what we needed as kids, it talked about some hard hitting topics that other shows didn’t want to talk about. It taught us life learning lessons and I thank Boy Meets World for that.
This is a difficult scene, it’s so realistic. Only being with one person and thinking that it’s the only one for you and seeing that you find someone else that you have feelings for it’s hard and heartbreaking. It’s part of growing up
+Lovelix- B she said "she DON'T like Lucas like that." Do you even listen or read? Don't means no. Never means never at all you like the person in the 1st place.
That ending with Cory and Shawn is where the real moment hits for me. Dude comes in to his best friend just having been broken up with by the girl he'd been with for his whole life. What do you DO there?? Best he could manage was a broken, weak "it's gonna be ok," which you can tell by his face, he's not even saying that seriously, he's more asking, pleading that. And Cory just has nothing else to do except respond with his heart, honestly, "no. no it wont..." as a broken hearted man with no more hope left. And then they just stand there, because what else do you do??
WOW! This TV show escalates SO MUCH from Season 1. You literally get to see them grow up in this show. I LOVE IT!!! Originally, I started watching Girl Meets World, and then became interested in the Cory and Topenga story so I started watching BMW. And man, it's such a good show. No matter how old or young you are, there's always something or someone in the show you can relate to. I'm currently up to season 2 but I can't wait to get up to this episode and see how the whole story unfolds. P.S. Honestly, I think the strongest relationship in this show is the one between Cory and Sean, but that's just me. I love their friendship and it's so awesome how relatable their relationship is.
I'm a woman and I'm not a fan of the psychology that she used on Cory. She told him to see her. To a guy, that means "Go see her". A guy won't understand "I'm testing you and if you see her, I will break up with you".
While I agree with you on the psychology part, if you watch the episode again, you will see Topanga was already heartbroken from the letter, the kiss, and the lying. This was the final straw. It was piling up and he should gave caught that, but he didn’t realize the ramifications of his actions leading up to Topanga saying go out with Lauren. Whether she tested him or not, he should have realized early on that this situation was not just a random thing and should have been taken more serious. Lauren wasn’t another girl, he had actual feelings for her and BOTH Topanga and Cory should of had a conversation about it, instead of miscommunication...but also, they were young and didn’t have the maturity to handle this...but like I said, I do agree with you somewhat.
Anyone here seen the first episode of Girl Meets World yet? Cory's reaction in this scene, when Topanga told him that she couldn't see him anymore, was almost exactly the same in the scene on GMW, when Maya told him that she had no one to help her with her homework. I do hope that the powers that be on GMW do a scene or two that pays homage to this one from BMW, involving Lucas and Riley's struggles as a couple.

Gotta miss the old days
@@macygrace2978 No. Topanga was right in that regard. Cory bothced the opportunity.
she did set it up, but he SHOULDN'T have went out with the other girl anyway. like she said, "do you know how many guys hit on me? i never needed to test my feelings for you." he was in the wrong, IMO.
@@ritikamandi6242 But then again he gave her a reason for the lost of trust.
He shouldn’t even be thinking about being with another girl when he has a girlfriend.
.
Here’s the kicker to this though, he told Topanga repeatedly that he didn’t want to see Lauren or go out with her, she forced him into a lose/lose situation. Not defending him, just pointing things out
This acting and their chemistry here are amazing. I think this might be my favorite scene in the whole show, despite the gravity of it

Yes!! They're acting chops here were SUPERB and definitely underrated. I would be exactly how Corey acts if I'm about to lose the one I love. They should have won awards with this scene alone.
Disney Channel used to be lit af
You know what just forget it it's not crucial which channel it originally aired the real important fact is that it's a great show.
correct! So many people say that disney got boring but it was never part of it.
+LoveRoryandJess Research it. It really DID start off on Disney. Any true Boy Meets World fan would know that.
It was never aired on disney until reruns. it was apart of abc family.
All 158 episodes aired during the series' initial run on the Disney Channel, however due to the adult subject matter and complaints from parents, Disney Channel omitted three episodes from later airings: season five's "If You Can't Be with the One You Love..." (due to its depictions of underage drinking) and "Prom-ises, Prom-ises" (whose main storyline involves Cory and Topanga contemplating losing their virginity on the night of their prom), and season six's "The Truth About Honesty" (due to its sexual references).[9] On May 5, 2014, the show temporarily returned to the network after a seven-year absence to promote Girl Meets World.[10]
ABC Family has aired Boy Meets World from June 21, 2004 to August 31, 2007 and again from April 12, 2010 to December 2, 2015.[11] Though the network in a way inherited the syndication rights to the show from Disney Channel, the episode prints broadcast by ABC Family differed from those seen on Disney Channel and in broadcast syndication as it incorporated scenes cut from the Disney Channel broadcasts (though small portions of certain scenes from episodes during the earlier seasons were cut due to time constraints) and featured the three episodes that Disney chose not to air, incorporated each season's corresponding opening title sequence, and restored the placement of the teaser scenes during the season one episodes to running before the opening titles in the manner that they were shown in the original ABC telecasts (instead of having the cast and creators' names shown during the teasers). However, the program was dropped once ABC Family was rebranded as Freeform. The series also began airing on MTV2 since November 14, 2011, again with the original opening title sequences intact.[12]

When he said "I love you completely now" he basically said
I know I love you 'now'. Like the days before that weren't really him in love with her
Kayla Atienza yea he needed what he got from the other girl to confirm his feelings his love and that sucked as if she wasn’t enough herself
letisha butler You know the whole point of this plot was to show that neither of them had dated enough to know that what they felt was special...
They never dated anyone else. Neither knew that even Topanga she was just hurt and was lashing out. How do you know you want the other person and no1 else when the other person is all you have known.
Cory should've smashed Lauren at the lodge.

Idk. I don't think she should have given him the freedom if it ultimately meant she would probably break up with him.
@Heidi She should have let him be honest without consequence lol. She basically tricked him into being honest to give her a solid reason to dump him.

GMW will never get this deep
That is so true

Shawn didn't even have to ask Cory what happened because just by looking at his face, he already knew. That part hit me..
He also knew because he tried to say hi to Topanga and she just walked away. Topanga wouldn't have acted that way towards Shawn under normal circumstances. He knew immediately. He knows the 2 of them better than they know themselves.
There will never be another show like this. It kills me. How amazing this show was...it’s always and forever in my heart.
Show was a real gem in the '90s. The show lost its way when they went off to college. Danielle played this role so well.
I didn't fully understand Topanga's perspective until I substituted some elements of this situation. Imagine if Topanga told Cory to have sex with Lauren and he did. Cory would've been dead wrong undoubtedly lost Topanga for good
Lesson: If your spouse gives you permission to explore intimate feelings with another person, DO NOT DO IT!
I honestly needed to here that personally from the drama I'm going through
on the lesson you said
wyssmaster but basically Topanga is saying there is nothing that anyone including Cory could say or do to make her test how much she truly cares for him.
Best TV breakup ever. The audience was legitimately shocked.
Corey: "I could dream of the perfect girl and I know she wouldn't even come close to you."
Also Corey: I needed to date another girl to know if you were the one for me.

Truly, Topanga’s best chance was to give him freedom and hope he knew her value enough to not take it.
well she wasnt being honest about her feelings so yes she does get half the blame.
@@katiecaddle209no she doesn’t and in the end it doesn’t matter, cause she made the choice to walk away like he made the choice to go on that date.
Spot on
@@katiecaddle209agreed.

Disney used to be great!

Some people skipped watching BMW and went straight to GMW
Lol I watched BMW *before* GMW aired.
Those people are 15 yrs old
Unfortunately I watched GMW before I even knew that BMW was real.
William Murrell yeah, me too
Me but I went back abd watched bmw its much better than gmw
This is a difficult scene, it’s so realistic. Only being with one person and thinking that it’s the only one for you and seeing that you find someone else that you have feelings for it’s hard and heartbreaking. It’s part of growing up
Disney show will never air another show with this type of acting ever again.
crimsonxtide50 Cause it was an ABC show. Disney just aired (edited in some cases) re-runs on their channel after the show ended.
the crowd reaction when she says Corey I can't see you anymore just proves how into the show and the characters people were
Maya pushed Riley and Lucas to be together but still had feelings for him.Just like Topanga told Cory to see Lauren.
THATS WHAT I THOUGHT
I thought it was the other way around. When Riley thought Maya liked Lucas she immediately backed off.
maya never like lucas omg
+Lovelix- B she did
+Lovelix- B she said "she DON'T like Lucas like that."
Do you even listen or read? Don't means no. Never means never at all you like the person in the 1st place.
Man I can still feel the chills after all these years.
Wow! That made me tear up. :-/ Even though we all know how it ended.
I STILL get emotional about this in 2019!!! 😩
“It’s gonna be ok”
Idk why that hits me so hard…especially coming from Shawn
The test was him actually going on the date. He failed the minute he did it.
cory's reaction to what Topanga said was perfect, it showed that he really cares for her.
I'm a woman and I'm not a fan of the psychology that she used on Cory. She told him to see her. To a guy, that means "Go see her". A guy won't understand "I'm testing you and if you see her, I will break up with you".
THANK YOU! Cory should've followed his first instinct (tell Lauren to go away), but that doesn't mean Topanga was right
While I agree with you on the psychology part, if you watch the episode again, you will see Topanga was already heartbroken from the letter, the kiss, and the lying.
Hits me every time man. One of the best shows I watched growing up
Anyone here seen the first episode of Girl Meets World yet? Cory's reaction in this scene, when Topanga told him that she couldn't see him anymore, was almost exactly the same in the scene on GMW, when Maya told him that she had no one to help her with her homework.
I do hope that the powers that be on GMW do a scene or two that pays homage to this one from BMW, involving Lucas and Riley's struggles as a couple.
Yes Disney is going on the right track. It's getting better.
WOW. I forgot how powerful that scene was. And I can't believe it made me tear up all over again 10-15 years later!
This scene was sad, it was moving, it was convincing, u felt Corys' frustration and sadness as well as Topangas'. ya see... The acting in family shows back then made u feel.
The way the guitar strums in at 2:16... the music in this scene turns the knife too slowly. Then he blames HER
Topanga telling Corey to go see another girl is a shit test that he failed miserably. Women speak in weird riddles of eternal opposite day lol.
It got the truth out either way. So she has a good reason to leave him because now she knew the truth.
Exactly i hate when people back topenga up without realizing corys SIDE
@@Kageofyoutube its pretty obvious that if u love someone u wont bother with another person. u can give cory a break cuz he's a high school kid but u cant be that dumb as an adult. corys an idiot. i feel like if youre in a serious relationship and think u need to test your relationship like that, u arent mature enough for a relationship then
@@MsDudette21 ok so all of that u said topenga is the idiot becuz she literally TOLD him 2 go see her. Another thing ppl completely disregard that corey is not good when it comes 2 girls he is not Shawn guys. Corey is the nice guy so when he fucks up everybody calls him a monster not realizing that hes only a human that makes mistakes. Lastly u say if ur in a serious relationship u shouldnt need a test abt love yet fail 2 realize they r still learning abt it corey and topenga dont kno much abt the word love and neither do we which is y we learn and I dont blame corey
@@Kageofyoutube gotta love how u completely ignored my second sentence. Pssh
I love how people still leave comments on this video almost everyday. The impact of this show 20 something years later
See naw sir...that yelling and hitting that table would've triggered me. I wouldve really got started then. "Boyyyyyy who in the h*ll are you yelling at?"😂😂😂😂
I cried so hard at this scene when Cody stands up and shouts
That piano in the background just makes the mood all the more sad. 😞 That's when these old shows could make you feel things personally.
Wow. What a heartbreaking episode . Very powerful. ❤️🙏
damm i felt that
Same
Why is it the moment I see Shawn I cry? He just makes every scene❤
Let's not forget the music in the background , every time a sad moment came up in boy meets world the music made it even more sad 😂
every fucking time I watch Cory and Topanga Someone is always Cutting Unions 😭😭
When you know you love someone nobody else takes their place. Nobody.
It’s 2017 and I still cry everything I watch this
I remember this scene like it was yesterday. ah my favorite!
Me: trying to enjoy a delicious reuben at this lovely little hole-in-the-wall I found today
The couple breaking up in the booth right behind me:
When Cory says "Felt" My heart 🥺💔
OMG I swear this is one of the best shows I've ever whatched
I cried my eyes out as a kid to this scene. It's one of the most gut-wrenching moments ever on television I felt. 😢
ME TOO: (
How wild. When I was in my late teen years watching this I was so sure that Cory was in the right and she tricked him. Now after years of relationship experience and maturing I can see that Topanga did nothing wrong. Cory effed up to “ test it out “.
Everyone needs a significant other like Topanga to help shape and mature them while dealing with these life lessons and everyone needs a best friend like Shawn to be there by your side while you face them
Going through a bad break up... Watching this almost made me cry lol.
Same here lol
Such a pivotal moment in this series, and one of the best breakups I’ve ever seen on screen
My god… the genuine life lessons this show produced is unmatched. I only wish I was slightly old enough at the time to fully take in the messages like this
i didn't cry or get close to it...but this one scene is full of real emotions even though they're acting. I wanted a relationship like them
I remember balling my eyes out on this when I first seen it.
Can this show get on Netflix cuz I really want to watch it
It’s on Hulu
christina anderson those damn commercials
It's on Disney plus. That's where I've been watching it.
"You said we were supposed to see other people" -- Topanga
"I'm supposed to see other people. You're suppose to wait until I die" -- Cory / (Season 2 episode 6)
NOOOOOOOOOOOO Now I feel like rewatching this show again! It's so long please noooo! :(
