I need a full game of this, expanded but with the same heavy classical atmosphere. A lone musician entering a once-grand town that had been devastatingly murdered by its own occupants. Playing a peaceful send-off to the tormented and driving the still lingering tormentors to their punishment. Added actions like respectful bowing, a twirl and step or two in the danse macabre. Seeing your bow get more frayed and worn as you step deeper into the town. Some areas have natural or engineered noises drowning out your playing and having to lead them to the underside of bridges, stone-halls and other places where the acoustics kick in. Still a progressive experience, you aren't hunting down resources and keys, you are setting a town to rest after a horrible atrocity. There's so much empty trash calling itself horror these days but just this small experience has proper atmosphere and feel to it.
Thanks very much, there are some great ideas in there! I might expand it into a longer experience, I've been toying around with the idea for a couple of years now and may go back to trying it in VR again.

Regular published and the majority of indie horror are just so empty these days. Maybe a gimmick or two that the game is based around but nothing on atmosphere or a sense of something greater going on. While for this game it seems effortless, steeped in a somber horror when that door slides open. The changing ambient noises of the Aslyum were also good. Put in mind this idea of having to play the music louder and harder. Not in rhythm game terms but just a simple control like press and hold E a moment to drown out the screams with a longer draw across the strings or a short sharp pull. Kind of thing I imagine would be a huge pain for syncing up the soundtrack. You've nailed a great concept. Didn't even get round to mentioning the fantastic grisly nature of the ghosts you find. Have a real love of the PSX era monster and horror works, like Nightmare Creatures being a shallow chore to play but it had some great design-work. The best of course being the broken noblewoman, how every angle of her is uncomfortable, good stuff.
@Corvus Moore Yeah there's a bunch of ideas I would like to try to expand this further. Music is such fertile ground for new mechanics and story telling but it generally only appears in the form of rhythm games or simple puzzles. The idea of using music to drown out the screams is excellent! Reminds me of Eric Zann. I've always been interested in making non-combat games and I plan to make the next one more mechanically rich without resorting to just fighting things. Another player who plays violin gave me some excellent ideas to about the different ways a violin can be used with all the articulations it has. Yeah Nightmare Creatures had a strong influence on me as a kid but I could never get very far without cheats and hated the boss fights. Creature design is top-notch in it tho!

Certainly no traditional combat, but I could see it all about imposing the musicians presence on the situation and forcing the current emotion with the performance. How you interact with different types of ghosts and entities. Like some are locked in their cycle of violence and replaying last moments, those still clinging to life or hunting. Like a ghost lingering by an upturned crib you would move in smooth and slowly, play quietly until the ghost gives some change in state, then picking up with a soothing set. Those have who done their duty like a slain town guard you give the bow and something more inspiring on the strings. A roving type that focusses on repeating what it did you stamp the foot, start off sharp and loud. Then with the actively hostile I've gone over stuff like the tunnels for better acoustics. Adding movement to it could make for some very somber and evocative moments, like a wedding that never finished, a funeral procession or a soul following the music to their body or a loved one knowing they should pass on. One simple notion that would be a nightmare development-wise of course. Additional scores and music from deceased minstrels and those that have a local importance. Like a piece of an anthem to give a withered regiment that last will to push against their equally dead opponents and open a street. Then smaller interactions like picking up an accompaniment from a church to draw out a demonic presence. It's a real bugger. Personal taste and stream content-wise I've been going through the Castlevanias and deeply hankering other games with that kind of gothic beauty and the slaying of monsters. There is a horrible lack of options there, specially on the PSX where the style looks best.

Last time i heard some nice violin solo from an indie game was the Last Door, and that was years ago. The moment I heard this I paused the playthrough i was watching and came to check the music. Great work!
It’s very touching and haunting. The choir is beautiful and similar to old Byzantine liturgies as it touches not just the heart but the soul and definitely creates meaningful thoughts! It’s sad it’s just a game, otherwise I’d love to see this performed in real life.
Thanks very much! Unfortunately I haven't found the time to expand the game and the soundtrack like I hoped, but for now I would recommend checking out some Paganini, Bloodborne, Bram Stoker's Dracula and Young Frankenstein playlists as they were the biggest inspirations on this.
This Is amazingly done. Super atmospheric and really gives off a vast, almost endless feel to It. Reminds Me a bit of Brandon Abley's work In Grave Spirit. Bravo. You did fantastic.

This is..flabbergasting. With such talents, i wonder why u are not a maestro already. The atmosphere also made it incredible. If there ever was a bloodborne 2, this had to be in it.
@@Gorvak Unfortunately I'm not great yet at writting sheet. I play mostly by ear and never had any formal training. I might be able to convert the midi but I'm not sure if there's good software for that. The verses are basically Cm to G and then the chorus is G#, G, Fm, G#, G, Cm. And the scale stays pretty close to C harmonic minor. I hope that helps!

After year, I still came back to listen to this music piece again. Was a big inspiration for me to see the musical instruments arrangement. Was looking for this music after watching the gameplay from ManlyBadassHero playthrough and I love it the moment I heard it ❤ Also it's the perfect vibe for me to write a book too ❤❤

Yes, this is the version with the full orchestra layers all combined. There is piano, viola, cello, brass, woodwind, male and female choir, timpani/percussion and the player's lead violin. :)
