I inherited a S&W MOUNTAIN LITE 3 INCH BARREL, 7 ROUNDS WHEEL GUN. ONLY 18 OUNCES, YEP 18 OUNCES. Can carry all day without any problem. I love it. it weighs less then my 1993 Colt MUSTANG 380 plus 2. 7+1 rounds. Weights the same as my mountain lite 7 ROUNDS. Neal Apollo Beach Florida

    Late 1980s, a 686 was around $250. Kicking myself

I just found one online purchased it. It's on the way. 586 blued steel, 8.325 inch barrel, great condition, according to the serial number it was manufactured in 1983. Lot of people don't realize that they no longer make the 8inch plus barrels. 7inches is the longest. Those are on the 3-5-7 series. They also only come in stainless. There's only a handful of companies that sell a 8in barrel brand new. None that I'm interested in, so it had to be used. Besides I already own a stainless revolver in a different calibur. I also watched a couple of horror movies on UA-cam where guys Smith & Wesson's were locking up, completely malfunctioning and it had to do with that lock they put in there after 2000. Also the quality of the 7in barrel guns are putting out that I mentioned are not good. The grip of the gun and the finish is just not quality. Stick with that 586, it's worth a pretty penny now too, trust me, i just found out when picking one up.

Sweet pieces. I’ve got both of those too and must say the 586 beats the 686 in the looks department and at least in mine the action is nicer too in the 586. Keep on enjoying those fine works of craftsmanship.
