As we say in Norway ; Wood keeps you warm more than once- both when you prepare it, and when you burn it.
I love that saying!
We say that in Canada too
@@gdgary790 yeah... instead of paying to go to a gym, cut wood...
How true!
"Small House Prepper!" It's not about the square footage, it's about the life you make in the home. Linda and I send our best.
Whoever bought your tiny home sure is getting a fantastic deal with all the special touches you've added over the years.
I know this is an OLD comment - but you made that install look SO easy - you did and amazing job & kudos to your assistant 👍
Thank God for the invention of the mini stove!
The perfect solution!
Take a picture of you two standing infront of the tiny house before you leave! It has been an incredible journey following you guys! And I love that little stove! ❤️
Just installed my Cub today. Doing the chimney tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing how it does. I'm in northern Alberta and it's late October. Already below 0c at nights and most the day. Had a bit of snow to. Winter hasn't set in yet. We will be getting alot of snow and -20c to -40c temperatures come winter.
Right on. You can heat your home even if the grid goes down.
It's a cute little Stove. I was always afraid Leo would jump on top of it. It must be bitter sweet leaving the little trailer with so many memories. But your New Home is better for you. Have a nice day.
Leaving the tinyhouse is very bittersweet.
(Leo very wisely doesn’t even try to jump on the wood-stove. He feels the heat pouring out! 😜)
I love this. It looks so cozy with just a light or two on in the house. Reminds me of the days when it was snowing like mad, wind howling and all of us in the living room eating homemade beef stew and watching Christmas movies by the light of the Christmas tree. (The kids thought it was a treat to not have to sit at the dining room table, lol). The good old days. I’m so happy for you all to be moving to a milder climate. Safe travels my friends, and on to your next adventure 💕
A great product - made in Canada!
.... Sir, I appreciate the kind manner you have toward your wife... ✝️
Can't wait for the new house and prepping projects over there.
I am one of the people who bought a Cubic Mini because of your reviews. Had my Grizzly for 2 years now and just love it. A great Canadian product. Thanks
Wow all these years and I never even knew where your fridge was. I never even thought about it. LOL I can't wait to see you all into the house and the tour. Till next time, God bless.
I like it when you talk about the stove. wish I had one where I rent.
Cosy :=) love it looking forward to see you both in the new home .🕊🙏👍
Thx, Bill! Great addition to your Cubic Mini Woodstove playlist. I bought the Cub to heat my whole house-a 96 sq ft cabin! Hope to get it installed next summer. Your videos will be required viewing for my helpers. They're great!
Thank you so much! I won't feel secure in winter til I get my little woodstove installed.
Growing up in the 40's and 50's my dad brought the wood home in 4' to 6' lengths. My older brother and I sawed with the 2 person saw to required lengths, the he split and I carried it in. I've eaten plenty of meals cooked on the old wood stoves, actually I learned to cook on a wood stove.
Cute little wood stove 👍👍👍👍
Love the little stove. Hope the new house is perfect for you.
I have a few blog friends that have that same woodburning stove and love it. Thanks for sharing! Blessings...
I just cant imagine having to stoke it every 45 minutes?? geez louise, we had a huge Fire king and only had to mess with it every few hours?? so little may be cute and work well but that is alot of fire tending.
Your videos on the cubic mini have helped me out a ton, from the installation to the fire wood prep. Living in North Eastern Washington state we have long cold snowy winters and with the grizzly In my 27’ camper trailor I have to open a window if it’s above 25 degrees Fahrenheit outside. Love this stove, thank you.
Love your music it's just perfect......thank you for the cubic minnie knowledge I've thought about this stove...nice to know how it burns.
Thank you for making this very informative video and providing the link. My husband and I have been talking about getting a wood burning stove in case of emergency for years.
God bless you in your new home in this New Year and in all the changes to come.
“Q” ppl ask to many silly questions..”A” Bill your a Smart and intelligent man you know what you’re doing...😂🤗
Hope the buyers are happy with all your improvements. I know I would.
I saw your older review comparing the 2 sizes and loved the idea. I plan get one when I finally make the move to a class c rv. Love the idea of having wood heat in an RV. 🙂
Great video and ty for sharing all we need to know about the mini wood stove,👍😆😊...
Thanks for another great video on this topic. We are installing one now, on our sailboat. And every bit of info helps! -Rebecca on SV Brick House
I hope you enjoy your trip! Wishing you safe travels. Take care and God Bless.
I bought mine because of your videos. Especially the installation video. You made it look so easy that even I could do it. :-)
Great video Bill. It seems like the cubic Mini wood stove is a great source of heat. Can't wait to see what kind of wood stove you'll put in the "big house"
Hope we get a video of the tiny house empty, will miss the tiny house. However definitely happy for your new home.
There will be one. 😊
Hello and goodmorning 😊!
Good info, as always.
Going to miss seeing you guys in your lovely tiny home but sure looking forward to seeing ya'll down Virginia way in your new "big house".😀
Blessings!
I just love the music to your channel.
I've been looking at these little stoves for several years. Thanks for sharing this. I love the little ash shovel. Lol. 😆 It's good to know how long of a burn the little stove has. So now I have to go back and look because I think you did a stove in your new house, too. Onward and upward!
Yes, we did a larger stove in our new house.
@@LiveSimpleLiveFree I see. I watched it yesterday. Lol
Thanks again. I bought my grizzly about 30" before I saw your 2 videos and was so glad I got it vs. the cub. Gods' Blessings on you both.
THANK YOU FOR ALL THE VIDIOS. !!!!!!
I have the Grizzly in a 200 sq foot off grid house. I am in Michigan and temps can get 0 or lower. To get a longer overnight burn, I used 3 compressed sawdust logs on a good coal bed and close all the air vents for a longer overnight burn. I can sleep 6 hours and still have enough coals to throw in some kindling the next morning and get a fire going. My place is well insulated, so the temp will go down about 10 degrees overnight. I love this stove.
Hello to both of you. I do not choose to live this way but find your videos interesting. This video was quite informative. I'm always open to learning new things. You have a healthy outlook on life. Bless you.
I think you are Super Cool. Very informative and I will be buying one through your link.
That is really nice. We always have had an alternative source of heat and have been in emergency situations. Now days we do not have a fireplace or gas wall heaters but in a small home, We have 600 sq feet we find that our full size propane stove does the job. Informative video.
Best of luck in your new place.
Great stove. Great video. This guy up in Alaska was cutting 6" thick limbs with a foldable bow saw like nothing. Like 15 seconds a cut. Then he'd axe split them.
Hi Bill. Thanks for the information.
I love the little stove, I want one not sure what I would heat with it lol..but it sure is cute and cozy!
I've lived in my tent also, for weeks at a time. Even tried it in the winter. Some of the photos on my website are from winter camping. It's just a different lifestyle. I heat water in a large pot to wash and bathe. I heat 5 gallons of water and use a shower tent to wash Filipino style.
At home I heat with electric. But because the outside walls are very well-insulated it's not real expensive. This time of year it cost me about $80 for the month.
Thanks for the very informative video
Wonderful stove.
I sure wish we could have bought your tiny house ......I would have LOVED it.......but 4 meowskers in a small space with a very allergic husband would not compute! Bummer! That’s how I found you guys.......looking at various tiny homes on UA-cam....and voila! There you were! So glad I found you ...... and I wish you all the best in your new home with Pop! Much love to you all! ❤️💕❤️💕🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Great idea.. i really want one of these for my home. I know you are better off trimming branches than cutting down whole trees as once you cut it down its gone! Small trimmings are renewable, and you get just as many the next year! Really!
Anything you burn in a wood stove must be dried for at least a year. We never cut anything down. We always take deadwood because it’s already cured.
@@LiveSimpleLiveFree i agree that dry wood means less creosote in the chimney. But when i had fruit trees, i was constsntly having to toss large bundles of sticks about an inch in diameter and over 6ft long, because i had no use for all of them. So a small stove or a garden mound would use up that wood other than for maybe making chairs or something else creative. I used a few for tomato stakes.
Where I live, we have a fireplace in our living room but have only used it once in all the years we have lived here, the county has an air quality rule that most of the days you cant burn outside, or woodstoves or fireplaces if you have another source of heat, you can use it if it is your only heat source, if found using it when you have another source and the ban is on you get a big fine!
Yes, wood burning bans are common in and near many cities, and in many Colorado mountain towns I've been in.
Are you guys going to miss the tiny house, do you think? I watched your vid where you described how you arrived there... and I was just floored by your strength of character. It inspired us here very much. The mini wood stove is also one of my favourite vids. Best of luck to you guys in the big house... you should get a wood stove there too...😊👍
Our next video coming out is our FINAL video at the tiny house. Yes, we're going to miss it. There were some tears when we left! And yes, we plan to get a wood stove in the new house.
Sale price on now for $599.00 CDN - finding my installer this moment. Larger stoves for my 950 sq ft house required way too much wall and floor protection...floor protection would've taken 1/4 of my living room and cut into room entryway path. The added comfort will be worth every cent I think as Ontario winters can be cold.
Are you buying a grizzle for a 950 ft house?
Look into his fan also. Uses heat to operate. No power.
@@K4Kale I will use this only for my living room and dining room area when SHTF in addition to my regular gas furnace. We routinely have our 3 bedrooms and 2nd bathroom closed off during daytime hours when not in use.
@@travelnc2g Yes...I've seen it in operation on a YT video. Niiiice.
I guess some people want to keep the same level of comfort in a SHTF event. So I agree you may have to wake up with in a cold home when we have no power.
That stove is too stinking cute!!!!🖤💘💙💕💜💟💗💛💓💞💖❤💚💝
Thank you so much for the information. I bet you can't wait to get a wood stove in your new place. I would love to have one in my place (rental) a terraced house without a chimney and the front and back wall of the property has large patio doors with the bedroom balconies above the doors!
That is so cool! Bill are you and Elizabeth thinking about adding
One of these to your new home?
No, it’s too small for our 900 sq ft house. We will get a full size wood stove.
Awesome guys ! Don't forget to check out LODI wood burners when you look for another stove for the "Big" house :)
Thank Bill!
Have you decided where you will put the big one in the new house? ☺❤
We're still working on all of that.
Hey so you have had your stove some time now so for some off-grid who wants to get this wood stove what parts would I like to also have on hand in case I need to repair anything weak on the road ??
Hello. I've had my Grizzly Mini wood stove for two winters. I'm in east central Minnesota and I have a 9' X 11' living /cabiny space. I love my little wood stove. It's awesome. My question is how often should I put new fire brick in the bottom? I notice clumps of brick sometimes when I clean out the ash. Do I need special bricks? Thanks, Kenneth Schwartz
I could be wrong, but I think the cubic stoves use fire-board, as opposed to fire brick? If so, you could probably cut some replacements yourself. Just draw out the correct shape onto a piece of fire-board and cut it with an angle grinder or something. If you're noticing chunks of the current stuff missing, probably best to deal with that now.
PS, I dont think there's fire brick on the bottom, just the 3 sides...
Bill and Elizabeth. You have inspired me so much....I will be purchasing a mobile home 14' x 70' so that I can also live simple and free. I have previously lived in 35' travel trailer. I plan to install a cubic mini. My question this...I would like to know the make/model number of your stacked washed dryer - I know you repurchased the same unit for your new home. Many thanks. Cheryl.
It’s a GE. Model number? Sorry, I have no idea. I’d have to dig up the paperwork.
Going to miss your tiny wood stove. Look forward to seeing your next wood stove. You did say you were going wood stove in your new place, right?
Yes, eventually. But it won’t be a mini stove.
Bill where will you put your Mini wood stove when you move into your new 900sq ft home? Or is it staying with the new owners of your tiny home? My son has a brick fireplace and I love the smell of wood burning during the winter months! I would love to have one of these wood stoves in my large master bedroom just to take the chill out of this area especially when it comes to taking a shower. I have high ceilings and it’s very hard to get it warm enough to shower during the winter. That wood stove has served you folks well while living in a cold climate 👍
The stove will be staying in the RV Tinyhouse.
I'm gonna miss that stove!
Me too! But I'm going to install a larger one in our new house that will heat through the night, and not take as much wood processing to cut the tiny little pieces. :-)
I love how tiny it is! Have you any idea which stove you will upgrade to? There is a guy at the My Self Reliance channel that uses a Jotul brand stove. He seems to like it well enough. Will you stick with American made wood burning stoves when you move to the new house? Will you refurbish an older stove that you can find at a swap meet?
Looking forward to seeing what you get for the new home.
We will get a new stove, but we haven't started the research for that yet. We've had quit a few suggestions from subscribers! We hope to have the stove installed sometime this fall, before the 20-21 winter.
Exactly what model are you using and please include the accessories.
We've had two different stoves. The Cub and the Grizzly. Here our comparison video. ua-cam.com/video/kcGzjIx1QX4/v-deo.html
Oh my i thought i was on time warp.. lolol you did this awhile ago. I have the grizzly in my vintage tin can called ROSIE.. tin can? The jetsons maid ROSIE? YEAH i thought it was clever.. ha ha ha.. my grizzly is totally worth it. I have a mobile off grid camper. Its really nice! Grreat vlog. Slim potato head is doing some winter camping. Thank goodness our winter is pretty darn mild. Half the propane use so far. Great money saver. Great advice! God Bless!
I only did this video a couple of weeks ago. We only finally cleared out of the tiny house a couple of days ago. (See our next video on Friday about that.)
Oh i was talking about the very first review on the cub you first got. Oh i do not miss ur vlogs. Including tea with Jesus. I run Elizabeths TWJ on my blue tooth speaker and sit back. Meditative. Thank you!
The only stove that is cute!...... 👍.
Would like to get one someday.
Can a flue go out a side wall? We are in 2 story home and I’d like this down in our dining/ living area.
Yes it can. But then it MUST turn up and go above the roofline on the outside.
@@LiveSimpleLiveFree thank you!! I was telling my daughter about a little potbelly stove for downstairs and found this video today!
Thank you for the answers. Great job. I am thinking of installing the Cubic Grizzly in by sailing boat. A modern GRP 42" sailing boat. We sail around the year and need some good solid heat. I have not ordered the stove jet. Need to do some more measurements. I got an issue with the chimney. I am going to use one of four existing air vents as exit points for the chimney. To get there the chimney needs to go in a 45 or 90-degree bend. There is no alternative. Asking the manufacturer of Cubic, they strongly advised me not to have any bends. That is why they are not selling sellings chimney bends or knees. The alternative is to go for a different stove or diesel burner. I understand that this will restrict airflow. Will have still have enough airflow for the stove to draw? This is not a live-onboard boat. It might be in a few years.
I have found these alternative chimneys:
Dickinson Marine, Canada.
dickinsonmarine.com/product_cat/solid-heater-chimney-accessories/
Reflex, Denmark.
refleks-olieovne.dk/en/accessories/
Dinak DW, Manufactured somewhere in Europe.
directflues.co.uk/dinak-dw-twin-wall-stainless-3
Dickinson and Reflex are well-known in the marine and yachting industry for their diesel, stove and chimney parts. Several Cubic and Grizzly installations uses Dickinson's stove. I have never seen any good comments on the reduction in draw with a 45 or 90-degree chimney bend. My prospect installation will include one-foot horizontal chimney pipe in 45 or 90-degree angle before the chimney goes straight out.
The second topic is a possible impact on boat insurance?
I did some resource on this. There is no separate regulation for installation of a stove in a boat. Legally in the UK, you need to apply with the building regulation for installing a stove in a house. There is safety regulation related to diesel and gas installations in yachts, but there are no reference to stoves or solid log burners. Spoken to RYA and two well know yacht surveyors. I am in two minds if I am going to speak to or inform my insurance company that my Italian 42" feet sailing vessel now got a log burning stove.
Good luck with your new house. I hope you bring your Cubic Grizzly with you?
If you do put a bend in the chimney, use a 45 if possible (not a 90). A 45 will not restrict the flow as much. When I had the 90 in mine, it still worked. I just had to clean out the creosote more often. (once a month) But I was using it everyday as our main source of heat. Our Grizzly is staying in our tiny house. It is a selling point, and it would will not much in our larger house. We plan to get a full size woodstove for the house.
@@LiveSimpleLiveFree Good advice. Got a luxury problem. On the back wall, I installed a TV. Allow you to relax under sail or under anchor. A 45 will most likely restrict the view to the TV, with a 90 I should be able to see the box from my favourite relaxing position. I will probably build a cardboard replicate of the cubic grizzly including the chimney. This will give me a feel of the stove will work, in terms of the space it takes.....
I appreciate the Centigrade notes on the screen! If in an emergency you burn for 18 hours a day, and sleep under a lot of blankets, what do you do with the plumbing?
In the few hours that the fire goes out, it gets cold in the house, but not usually below freezing. As long as we start the fire again in the morning, the plumbing is not in danger.
After you move.........What are you going to do with your Mobil Home and the property it sits on? Just curious.......
Selling it.
I love the look of this stove and my home is 392 sq ft so sounds like it would work for me. Can you tell me the total cost for everything you had to purchase for the stove? Im also concerned about the comments for cleaning out the pipe. Im not capable of climbing up on the roof to clean out the pipe, and the cost of chimney sweeper to come out every 4-6 weeks may not be a feasible solution for me :(
I don’t know the price because I purchased several years ago, and it depends on what you purchase. All the prices are on the website. cubicminiwoodstoves.com
@@LiveSimpleLiveFree thanks!
Ironic that your first video of the stove install led me to your channel...been a regular subscriber since then
Folks should research the many uses for ash. For example you can store fresh eggs in them for weeks even longer without refrigeration. During the 1920s and 30s my father as a little boy was responsible for collecting the household ash that had to be turned over to the municipalities.
Just wondering how you cut the firewood to length? Do you use regular 16-20 inch long split firewood and then use a chop saw to cut that longer piece into 5-6 inch long pieces?
Here a video that explains my whole wood processing station and how I do that. ua-cam.com/video/d2psI67VoUA/v-deo.html
Thanks for the reply Bill!
What type of stove are you putting in your new place
A bigger one. LOL We don’t know yet.
Have a wonderful trip in the Bahamas, enjoy the food and your time relaxing. Can't wait till all of you are back at the Big House and Dad is settled in. Then you can enjoy planning the garden, can't wait to share this with all of you. Oh such fun God bless all of you, you too Leo.
Nice info
Name of maker and model number of this stove? Great overview.
So excited for us all, to be in the "Big House" 🏡
Cubicminiwoodstoves.com I have an entire playlist with LOTS of videos and info about this stove.
Have you considered a rocket mass heater system?
There isn't enough room for one in the RV Tinyhouse.
Where do you buy such a small wood stove. We live in an RV and don't have space for an average sized wood stove.
There is a link the the Cubic mini woodstove website and to our playlist of videos about this stove in the description of this video. cubicminiwoodstoves.com
@@LiveSimpleLiveFree Thank you so much.
I have trouble seeing once in a while and small print is really difficult to see.
How long have you had your cubic mini wood stove
Over four years. We loved how well it worked. We sold it with the tiny house.
I'm a little disappointed in that the company hasn't had the stove tested by UL to make it available for use in a residential property (like mine)..... or yours when you move into your new home. I've got an 800 sq ft apartment and would love to add a small solid fuel stove (aka wood stove) in a central location for heat. But alas.... not with the Cubic, unless the company takes steps to get it UL tested and approved as s space heater for folks like me looking for something small. And I'd really enjoy the fact that the whole rig is wall mounted. I wouldn't have to lay down a hearth, and like you said, clearance requirements are a lot easier to meet with something like the Cubic mini's.
Sir, you state twice on this video you have to stoke this every 30-45 minutes. Your older video you said the fire lasted approx. 2-2.5 hours and it was smaller (The cub). This one is a little larger and handles a little more wood. Did the smaller one burn longer for some reason??
No, I have to stoke it every 30-45 minutes to keep the fire going. If I don't, the stove is completely out and cold within 2 hours. But if I don't stoke it within 45 minutes, then I have to basically restart the fire, even though the stove is not yet completely out - it won't be hot enough to re-catch if I wait too long to stoke it.
but will it heat the trailor alone if it was your only heat
Yes, until it goes out at night. When we use the stove, the electric heat never comes on during the day, even when it's below zero outside.
I've tried wood pellets, in my cubic mini. They just don't really burn that well. They kind of just smolder.
Cubic specifically says to NOT use pellets. 👍
Wood pellets burn at a higher temperature than wood logs, the heat that they produce is higher than what the bottom of your small stove AND regular sized normal wood burning stoves. Pellets sometimes burn unevenly in a regular wood stove since the circulation of air is different. You can get a pellet pan/basket and adjust the vents on your wood stove. There are benefits and disadvantages of burning pellets. Advantages : they burn hotter, they are lighter and easy to carry, no cutting wood, no storing wood piles. Disadvantages: not prepper prepared, Burns away faster, cost is equal in most places. Storing needs to be in dry rodent space.
I've been looking into stoves for my front porch sun room. It's the first room into my house. With a recling love seat and another recliner (both rockers). Its the entry way for my child care business. I'd love to install the stove out there but it's all glass. How could I do this?
The chimney works the best (by far) when it goes straight up through the roof with no bends. Does your room have a glass roof/ceiling? If it does, then I have no idea how you would do that.
Where do you buy that where do you get it I'll try to ask about it on Amazon and I can't find it
There’s a link in the video description. cubicminiwoodstoves.com
Some maybe interested in SLIM POTATOHEAD who uses a very small pellet stove in an A Liner camper. Check out old episodes.
Yes, I’m subscribed to Slim Potatohead.
I rather have a wood burning stove over any other kind of heat, we have ours in the basement of the house and it warms up the entire house including the floors, Love having warm floors on a Cold winter night.. 😊
In fact sometimes gets so warm we have to open windows... Lol
Yup, we open windows sometimes, too - even with the mini stove.
What kind of wood heater for your new home.
A larger wood stove. We don’t know which stove yet.
Have you sold your tiny house , with all the upgrades you have done, the ne owners are going to be warm and toasty.
What did you do that you had to go to "the big house"? Violate a building code?:-D
Here's why we had to go to "the big house." :-) ua-cam.com/video/--Ioka_NO_M/v-deo.html
I have the cubic mini wood stove in my 5th wheel . im in yhw process of building a tiny home on wheels and I will be putting yhe stove in it. I use the pressed logs at night from the farm stores. And cut them with a ax to fit in the stove They last for 4 to 5 hours before you have to add a another piece. Ive tried thw logs from home depot and Lowe's they we're junk. The farm store logs are far better ans work amazing. The stoves are amazing mine heats me right out of my rv so. i have to damer it down a little. I would never be without mine. I know the grizzly they have stove that fits ontop of them.
