Amazing to see how much all the rule changes have slowed the game down. This game pace was much faster than Origin matches nowadays. And interesting to notice both teams kept the 10 metres back then. Now it depends on the team and the referee. Know it was only 12 mins but interesting to notice how the ref was rarely sighted during the game unlike now where he is the centre of attention. Give me the good old days anytime when men were men and football was played by men not latte sipping wimps.
Including skills such as, actually playing the ball with the foot, tapping the ball to yourself when the markers aren't there, bit of competition at the scrums...I could go on.
Absolutely. So much better. Too many stupid rule changes removing competition for the ball, and therefore reducing the number of turnovers. Also the defensive lines weren’t robotically straight like they are now, so players could find gaps more easily
i dont mean to be off topic but does someone know a way to get back into an Instagram account? I somehow lost my account password. I appreciate any help you can offer me.
@Seth Jacob Thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site thru google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff now. I see it takes quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Always thought Scott Gourlay was a really good player. The defensive lines came up uneven back then, which is why the game was more attacking - there were gaps everywhere. Offiah was as fast as I’ve ever seen.
Cheers Martin Weekes for denying Martin Offiah what would have have been four tries on the night. All because you couldn't keep up and you couldn't see that it was the Easts player who took the corner post out.
I think from the initial reaction by the touchie he thought it was offside at the kick as he slowed up on the touchline, either way he was wrong on all counts.
ynotnilknarf39 They didn’t call him TV Weekes for nothing. Absolute myth of a touch judge. More worried about running in and reporting innocuous incidents to get his head on TV rather than making correct decisions. The in goal judge should have been consulted by Graeme Annesley. Simple fact, they couldn’t keep up with him. Annesley never refereed a Grand Final and his fitness and inability to keep up with play was a major reason why.
That first Beattie kick should have been a penalty try to Offiah: Orford deliberately pushed him. I wonder how many second rowers have played a game as good as Scott Gourley did - ironically Gourley played his last two seasons with the team he destroyed here. St. George 28 [Martin Offiah 3, Scott Gourley 2 tries; Ricky Walford 4 goals] defeated Eastern suburbs 14 [Terry Hill, Craig Salvatori, Wayne Marshall tries; Kurt Sherlock goal]

The tacklers hadn’t got up to stand in front of the tackled player at the mark, and therefore the tackled player could play the ball forward with his foot and play on. The rule was like that for almost 100 years until Murdoch’s super league buggered everything up.
The pace and the speed of the play the ball in this game is incredible. Shows how much the game has actually slowed down in recent years
@J G Manchester United still playing crap too.
@J G Manchester Utd are still crap and won't be winning anything this season again.
Less people ‘on the gear’ Simon?

Loved watching Martin Offiah as a young kid. Dragons had a good team in 91.
No they didn't, they missed finals that year, they underperformed for the list they had
I remember watching this game on tv as a teenager
Man that third try he just out of no where, the speed was unreal.
Offiah - The best Rugby winger of all time. Any code, any time..period!

These players actually had occupations outside of Rugby League
Great Dragons team Offiah was unreal , Ricky Walford is a Dragons Legend.

@Jonas Kenneth no problem :D
What a player chariots!!!
The great Martin Offiah!!
Jeff Hardy was one of my favourite Cas players. I think we got him & Tawera Nikau from Sheffield Eagles. T was fantastic too.

Man, league was great to watch back in the day, about 2005 when the wrestle came in the game became a slow slog
Blistering Speed to Burn..... Incredible...

Offiah on the inside good night! 😅
Martin Offiah was like a tornado 🌪
Great vid. Thanks.
Paul vautin in a bloody roosters Jersey. That was as bad as Fulton defecting. Mind you, different circumstances, but still.

What a game of Rugby League
No bunker back then for Offiah's no try

Great balls of fire
I played the juniors match before this and won Mitchell pierce was half I was the 6th Paddington woolarha

Jeff Orford's attempted tackle at 5:34 has to be the worst attempted tackle in RL history.

4 try's just saying

penalty try my ass he pushed him as he caught it
Pooping the same way
You're a freak! ;-)
Rubber Dinghy Rapid Bro
Peter Coyne was the worst signing castleford ever made.
Forget Offiah, Coyne best on ground
How do you work that out?
Offiah may have scored the tries, but who made the breaks, Coyne.
@@tometiger47 yeah but the try scores always get the glory and creadit lol
How stupid of Saints to let him go, that decision alone cost them comps.
Coyne was easily the best player on field. You put those tries on a platter! Great vision & execution!
Paul Vautin, thought he could run down Offiah
