This is the oldest match I have seen on UA-cam- thank you so much. old Manly Warringah Sea Eagles supporter but supporter of old NRL matches! Wonderful
Beaut to watch,Manly played with plenty of spirit lots of ball movement an effort,Drags way strong,Bull an Mossop in th action, the gritty play of Poppa Clay a standout
how about the flimsy padding around the goal posts...it was rough back then, heavy boots with big metal studs, jumpers that weighed about 50 lb., unlimited tackle...I played it as a skinny kid...brutal stuff
I am always intrigued as to why Australian rugby league referees from this era wore white cotton piping instead of regular boot laces. Was it a legacy of the army and WW2? Boots polished, immaculately turned out etc. I can see no other explanation. Does anyone know?
Interesting to see how much the game has changed. Defending teams allowed to be 2-3 metres in front of the ruck (unless that ref was a shocker). Improvisation, not strategy was king. The attempted kicking of the ball by the marker in so many play-the-balls was the first time I'd seen that. Maybe that led to the six tackles again rule?

RIP NORM
Bizarre after the event commentary where sometimes he tells you what's about to happen before it does.
@MANCHESTER UNITED So what?
@MANCHESTER UNITED why do you have the urge to try and piss everyone off? oh and there's not 240 countries smh

Why can't I find any footage of the 1959 grand final
Why do Dragons win , yet the majority of the clip shows Manly ?
Please tell me Manly sells those jerseys with the huge eagle on the front.
Yes they have been sold as retro jerseys the last few years.

Lol everyone is just standing around offside
Pretty sure it was a 3 yard rule in those days
@@jgsheehan8810 You are correct.
3 yards
Rex was a great player
Back then they had unlimited tackles
So cool aye hahaha
I could score 100 try’s bro
From 1956 to 1966 St. George will win 11 straight Grand Finals
Boy they didnt worry about offside in them days !
Very convoluted coverage. Score was 4-4 then a few minutes later Manly kick a goal to make it 4-2.
watching this video I dont know how St.George won, they apparently only got the ball about 6 times lol
Any chance we can get the 1959 GF?
Apparently there is no video of the 1959 gap. I have asked just about everywhere
No guessing who the camera guy supported
was an Eagle fan who edited this aborted Grand Final .
Manly's coach that year was none other than Ken Arthurson
yeah arko went on to be a manly boss & he was a nsw rugby league boss from 1983-97
@M obsessed 😂😂😂
And the fullback Ron Willy. Manlys first premiership winning coach.
unlimited tackles
Half time and saints lead 9 - 4 ... watching this clip seemed manly had the ball all the time ? Same 2nd half ? Yet saints win 31 - 9 ?
3 yard rule was rubbish .. players standing offside all day.
Hey Hugo in manly was my grandad
@@Skoobie799 Great player George Hugo ... fine clubman 1952-63
@@alanwhit8770 wait how you know him
@@Skoobie799 Only through reputation, research a lot about league in the 50s and 60s
@@alanwhit8770 wow

The edited version is probably done by Manly supporter
