6:17 I certainly can't recall any smiles or laughs from him. Looking back quickly, Darcy has a slight smile in episode 61 (when Lizzie says that the Newsie hat is something she just ran with for costume theater), and a suppressed smile in episode 80 (when Lizzie sees the outfit he put together for costume theater), but it's never big and can be missed which Lizzie must have frequently done in the past. (Surprisingly, he doesn't smile during his confession.) I love how this works so well narratively, since Lizzie literally called him "unfeeling" in the past, and now we get to see him being more expressive in a happy way, yet still conceivably the same person, when she's warming up to him. Also, it's hilarious that the shoulder touch is the most replayed part of the video.
Wild how Ashley's praise of Darcy late in this video is almost identical to what Fitz said about Darcy back at Collins and Collins! Caring, protective, all about the love--Fitz's description was accurate, even though he was missing some key facts and even though Lizzie dismissed him at the time.
This episode is hands down my favourite episode in the arc - for very obvious reasons. Like this is an episode I'll watch sometimes on repeat because it's so wholesome and you will - guaranteed - be left with a huge idiotic grin on your face by the end. The chemistry is off the charts - the leaning, the touching and the teasing. Remembering that this is coming off that weekend - which again, big PROPS to the the transmedia geniuses who documented that through Gigi the super shipper - you can see that Lizzie is already *there* in her feelings towards him. The reaction to "Gigi told me you wanted me?" and she is startled because she totally took it differently. The serenditpitous thing though - this gem aired on the anniversary of the publication of Pride and Prejudice, which makes it that much more special.
Rewatching I've been really enjoying how Darcy's sense of humour is portrayed, he actually displays it quite a lot, but it's incredibly dry and he doesn't laugh much (as opposed to Lizzie getting louder and over exaggerating things for her humour), because it makes it really easy to look back and realise why Lizzie interpreted a lot of their first meetings as him being sullen and antagonistic.
I'm just putting this together but: almost everyone darcy has loved is either dead (mom AND dad) or ran away from him with his enemy (gigi), so like...darcy's maybe reserved because he's traumatized??
Regarding the point at 16:13, yes, the contrast between the videos was stark and difficult to handle (the watcher went from blissfull joy to utter powerlessness and angry tears and back to blissful joy and so on), but it also made each story stronger, because it reinforced just how cute and romantic etc. one was and how devastating and heartbreaking etc. the other was.
I remember with the shoulder touch, either in the preview from episode 82 or the "previously" on episode 84, the editor used that clip, but let it play slightly longer, so you got to see even MORE of Darcy's reaction, which the fandom went NUTS over
This episode was a nice little break before the shit hit the fan on episode 84 😬 that shoulder touch...absolute classic, I still think about it when writing today. This video was so good because it's subtle but at the same time so obvious about how much more comfortable and happy they are around each other. Unrelated to this video, we have been watching Lydia's vlogs as well and in the most recent one my mom decided Darcy needs to punch Wickham 😂
Just had the realization that episode 98 comes out on my birthday. As someone who was not into LBD when it aired, that is a delightful surprise! And I'll be with my friend who got me into it that day so we get to squeal together and I'm sooooo pumped 😁💖
The thing about not seeing as much of the behind the scenes people is an issue in almost all bonus content ever. It's always actors and directors talking which is fine but I absolutely looooove when they get writers and costume designers and stunt people etc (that's why I love the lotr behind the scenes stuff almost as much as the movies)
I think this episode is maybe the climax of the different dynamic we see at Pemberly, with the way we see Lizzie and Darcy play with each other, how much their feelings have changed and how much more comfortable they feel with each other too. It's so adorable and funny. Thank you Kate!
I love how at 18:09 when you're replaying the shoulder touch, the youtube video is showing that that clip is the "Most replayed" segment of the video 😆 Really looking forward to the next few episodes. We're getting to the really good stuff now. Episode 87 (if I remember the number correctly - it's "An Understanding") has always been my favorite. It's an intense gut punch, but the catharsis and reconciliation are SO GOOD. Can't wait to get gut-punched all over again in a couple weeks!

this is one of my very favorite episodes-- free serotonin!! and I loved the conversation about earning the big romantic gestures. lots of stuff lately rushes through the good juicy pining (that we see so skillfully crafted here) and it loses me :/ well done everyone!!!!
I love this and their hyper-mediation episode too because it really drives home that they do have similar ideas about media. And that in episode 99 Darcy is just talking about hiring her to be nice.
Pretty sure I said this on the last episode Kate was on but she created one of my favourite romance heroes ever: Oliver from Let It Be Me. Not surprised she built such a slow burn here. This episode is so much fun and like she said, we get to see them be playful, which the story absolutely needed.
i LOVE kate’s attention to detail and i thought it was played exceptionally!! it’s definitely the small things that create the tension and I HATE THE WAITING but i think it pays off SOOO WELL!! that’s one of the things that’s make or break- you need to have a payoff that’s AS good as the tension, great job yall 👏🏼👏🏼
This is probably my favourite episode, I mean it is tough to choose, because I love them all, but you know this is cherry on the top, you cannot watch this episode without smiling, I dare you :D. Anyway I like what you are saying in 15:15, why we love Darcy so much? Because "little layer of resorve and grump on top and when you get under it, it is just love" that is probably the most accurate description of Darcy I have ever heard even better than agrophobic lobster. Thank you for this episode, I had lovely time.
