- You're almost to the end of the quilt when you realize that you've got more quilt top than backing. What to do now? Don't panic! In this video, I will show you the easiest way to add backing, right on the frame, without having to take the quilt off to do so. This video is a portion of my UA-cam Live Demo that streamed on October 22nd 2021. In that video, I also demonstrate how to add batting if you fall short (right on the frame).
Here's the link to that video if you'd like to see it:

Happy Quilting! May all your backings be big enough. ;)
Tracey
1st time tried this morning, worked great
Miss you and you wonderful teaching videos. Hoping all s well.
Thank you so much Kathy! January has seen more restrictions here in Ontario and I spent some time, while I wasn't allowed customers in the shop, purging and cleaning up. Now that restrictions are lifted, I wish I'd of spent that time quilting and making videos. lol.
Thank you a thousand times. This has saved me before and I have just rewatched for review to save my edge border again. I need to remind my friends to give me more backing :-)
You're very welcome! Yes..make sure they give you enough backing! 😉
I love how you measured with your hand. I've done that for years and my Dad always laughed at me about it. 😆
We use what we got! LOL ;)
Great tutorial!!! Thank you so much! You have saved my sanity...
Thank you Ruthie! I appreciate that!
Have taken off off the frame. Taught me check better before I put on the frame at the beginning , lol.
I loaded a quilt wrong yesterday. I knew it 2 rows in. I used your method today and was successful. Thanks!!
Yay!! Not yay that your backing needed extending but YAY!! that you were successful in the solution. 🥰
This is my first time running out of backing.. I was so upset.. This video was beyond hlepful. Thanks so much for your detailed and clear instructions... I'm saving this to refer back .
Thank you Tracey I love you for this. ❤😊
Awe! Thank you Pauline! I hope it helps. :)
I did this ONCE only. I now baste my entire quilt before quilting it.
A glove with a strong magnet attached to the back works perfect when pulling pins.
I am new to your UA-cam family. I live in California and have been a professional Long Armer for 4 years. Your tips and helpful lessons are so instructive. Thanks for sharing your expertise with the world of long arm quilters. I have been binging on your lessons 😊
Thank you so much MaryAnne! I appreciate the kinds words! 😊
Ty sewww much! I did this on my Gammill. I couldn't reach it from the front, so I rolled the Quilt backwards until I could reach to pin it from the back of the machine. I could have never done this without your video!
Great job! That's awesome that you figured out a work around for your machine. Thank you for the kind words. :D
@@whirlsnswirlsquilting4362 , you are so very welcome as well! I love your teaching!
Thank you!! Looks super easy.
brilliant!!! wish I would have seen this about 3 weeks ago! This just happened to me and It would have saved me much time and grief. I just subscribed to your channel. THANK YOU!!
Thanks Laurel! Hopefully you haven't had to do this again since then. 😁
You are a lifesaver!
Thank you Tracy. Had to refer to this video yesterday. Was 2” short🙁Glad I had more backing fabric. This method worked perfectly😁
Awesome! I’m so glad it helped Karen!
Well,🥴after like 7 years of longarming, I did this to myself last month and the solution was much less devastating than the fact that I had done that…didn’t realize “it happens” …was thinking How stupid can I be…great solution thank you❣️ you are so smart👍
It happens to all of us at some point! Now you have the solution should it happen again. ☺️
You are very tricky! This has happened to me and I will definitely use your method when it happens again. Thank you for sharing!
LOL! I love how you say "when it happens again"...😂 Thank you Diana!
Wish I had this yesterday!!. Lol. Was 6 inches short and I already took the quilt off the frame, but now I know for next time!
Next time! Now you know... ;)
Thanks for this great tutorial! I've had to do this one time! But used my sewing machine and an ironing board set up high! A friend stood on the back side sliding the ironing board along as I sewed on the extra backing! It was quite the process! This is much better idea!!
Oh GEEZ! You really did do it the hard way! 😊
THANK YOU! This was so easy to do following your instructions.
Your are a wonderful teacher! I haven’t needed this yet, so much good information. Thank you.
Thanks Debbie!
Great long arming tip! I'm hand sewing today with my feet up! Thanks for posting!
Enjoy that down time! Little jealous here...lol ;)
I am new at Longarming and hope this never happens, but I am so glad I saw this video just in case. Thank you.
You're welcome Martha!
Oh my goodness I can't tell you how many I've taken off the rack. Great tutorial, thank you! (And another reason why I'm looking to upgrade to a Millie!)
Glad it was helpful Stacy! So much easier than taking it off right? I LOVE my Millie!
You will love a Millie!
Such a great video! happily I haven't needed the information before, but now if I do, I know where to go for a refresher!!
Thank you for the kind words! I appreciate that a lot Jessie. ❤️
Thank you so much for this excellent demonstration
You are very welcome Donna! I hope it helps should you ever find yourself in this situation. 😊
Amazing!
Very helpful
I’ve not had to do this, but a very useful tutorial on how to resolve this if it happens. Love the ironing hack too!..
Who knew cardboard tubing could come in so handy hey? lol
Thank you very helpful hint,
Brilliant!
Just did it
Thank you!!
You're welcome!
I experienced this when it 1st started quilting.
I had to figure out wo help.
Brilliant Solution! I have never considered this - just had a short back last week: I unzipped the whole quilt, cut a strip of backing from the sides, pieced them, then attached an extra 3" at the bottom. Urgh!
Genius pressing solution, too! Thanks for the great tips!
You did it the hard way! Hopefully you've not had to do it again but if you have, I"m glad you've got an easier way now. 😊
This is a GREAT video. Do you charge your clients extra for this? It's a lot of extra work.
I always make sure client quilts have enough backing before I load it. 😉
Yep just last week. Wish I would have seen this earlier. I took off frame😢
If it happens again, now you know an easier way! 😁
Had to watch your video today cause I messed up
Glad the video helped. It happens to all of us! Hopefully it's a long time before you need to do it again.😉
I am getting ready to try it lol yall know why lol
Ackk! At least you now know an easy way out! 😁
I’m afraid I may run into this on my current quilt!
Well now you have an easy fix if/when you run into it. 😉
