I read the directions several times and never got the message that you showed and explained so well in this video. Thank you most sincerely. "Err" I found this video especially informative on the expected malfunctions indicating the unit is bad and should be replaced. I will not be purchasing this super inexpensive model this time around they seem fragile and unreliable. Thanks so much for your time tallant and effort in sharing this fermentation subject with us. It is so essential for correcting the damage done by consuming the foods of the modern western diat. Thank you Adrienna, are a God send.
Thanks so much for this video. I purchased a meter, took a look at the directions, and said I would do it later. Well, later still hasn't come! Now I know what to do, so I'll get the distilled water and do the calibration. I love your videos...my first ferment was your dill pickles and they have been a huge hit with everyone. The sauerkraut just got finished today and it's amazing. Thanks so much for your clear instructions, insights, and encouragement.

I finally decided to get a PH meter to make sure i was doing it right, and I was so proud when i first, calibrated it correctly thanks to you, and second, the readings were spot on! Mine and my familys gut are so thankful for you making all these videos. You are helping so many thousands of people live a healthier lifestyle and you should be so proud!

It's a POS anyways, save your money.. I've bought countless vivosun items for my microgreens business and they have let me down every single time.. Cheap Chinese junk with non quality control. Do no recommend for anyone who is serious about growing.
What a revelation. Thanks so much for this very useful video. I have had this same PH meter for around 6 months now and have followed the calibration instructions exactly but the instructions don't say to hold the cal button an extra time in the 2nd test or a second time in the 3rd test like you showed. I just re read the instructions again to be sure but it doesn't say it anywhere. I have had ok results using it anyway but have found a need to calibrate a little more often. Now I am going to try and calibrate it your way and see if it works better. Thanks from Sweden!
My ph meter comes with instructions like yours and does not say to push the cal button once after the second or twice for the third. Did you try how she did it in this video?
you can save the buffer solutions in sealed and labeled water bottles or similar containers. as long as they dont evaporate they will remain the same PH and can be used for calibration whenever you need.
Since the glass and knife that you stirred with might cool the liquid down a bit, I would heat the water to a few degrees above 25 (think 27-28 would be a good number) mix the solution, then wait for it to drop to 25 (if needed).
Hahahah.... Thank you so much. After reading and trying to follow the instructions several times, I finally Googled and found this video. So happy it was you, the person I follow anyway. :0)
What a pleasant surprise. I've been watching your videos tonight and thought, I should check into a pH meter just to see about them. After searching for awhile and hearing all the horror stories of people having a hard time calibrating them I saw a video on how to do it, clicked on it not paying much attention to who it was, and here I am back with you! No complaints here. ;-) Well done as usual.
Thank you so much for this tutorial, it made it much clearer and gave me confidence as I did it. Especially since I needed to do the third solution twice. It all came out fine.

Just got my meter, thanks for the great instructions. I had to look up what 25c is, 77 degrees. I think I'll store my meter with a bit of distilled water in the cap so the probe doesn't dry off sitting for months.
Reading the instructions is like reading a diff language, thank God you have this video,, ill calibrate this soon,! I'm new in fermenting, your video is awesome!
Perfect timing! I just ordered one of these after your recommendation and I was kind of anxious if I would know how to calibrate it. This video will help me a lot. Again, a perfect video with a detailed explanation. PRO style, as always 🙂
Thank you so much for making this video and explaining it so well! I especially appreciate your tips on how to care of it to make it last longer. Great video, just like all your other videos I've watched! Thank you!
Another great video. You are a very good teacher! Although I knew how to calibrate and care for the pH meter, I was never quite sure exactly where the immersion point was on this meter. I thought the ridges were just a gripping point. I also didn’t know which replacement buffers to buy. Thanks so much. By the way, if I’m not actively fermenting or using my meter a lot, I make it a point to rinse and recap my meter each day when I feed my sourdough starter. That keeps the bulb damp…very important. This is completely off subject, but I hope you are an Amazon affiliate. With all the work you put into these videos, you should at least be receiving compensation from Amazon for your links. My son does UA-cam videos and didn’t know this for quite a while.
Oh thank you! I bought it after watching your video on white Kimchi and boy, the directions almost made me give up because they don't say in the how to, to warm the water so I ended up having to warm the water with the granules in it. You are a superstar!!
Thank you so much for the clarity 🙏🏽 what do you do when you want to disinfect it? Im using it in maling of skincare and would like to clean it better than just rinsing with tapwater... Any tips on that for me? ❤
I still have some questions. Does the water have to be 25°C to MIX the powder and/or to do the calibration? It does drop in temp as you stir the powder in, so could/should you microwave it to bring it back up to 25°C? Then, since temp appears to be a factor, should anything you're testing with the meter, once it's calibrated, also be a certain temp/25°C? If you save and store the testing waters, should you bring them back to 25°C before recalibrating?
A degree difference doesn't really matter. I have found if the medium being tested is really cold, like from the fridge, the ph is a little off. for best accuracy, allow it to come to room temp before testing. Always testing at 25C is not mandatory, just avoid extreme hot and extreme cold.
Thank you very much for the video, it was so complicated for me to understand till I watch your video.. what kind of batteries I need for it ? As mine came without the batteries
I have an older model where you have to turn a screw to get the ph level on the packet. With this newer version it calibrates itself using the solutions, am I correct?
I have purchased Konvio Neer pH meter. Its company fitted reading is 14.0 but after keeping the meter in RO or tap water, it gradually comes down to 7.6 or around after some time. What does it mean? The meter is in yellow colour with three pouches. Can I measure TDS and pH level from the same meter or do I have to buy anotherTDS meter? What are the normal permissible limits of TDS and pH?
My problem: i was not able to press the calibrate button properly after immersing the ph meter and should have indicated 6.86 but 7.70 . What will i do?
You stated the instruction say not to let the pH probe dry out… should it be re-rinsed and capped periodically if not going to be in use for a while… like every couple of weeks?
thanks for the detailed instructions. I could have figured out the calibration myself but the tips about taking care of it are invaluable. I would have immediately put it in a drawer 😄
thankyou. I was reading thru the instructions and not quite understanding them. now that I have it calibrated - how do you raise or lower your PH? using this for hydroponics. thank you
May I know if calibration is needed for the very first time? Do I need to calibrate it everytime before use? The on-line seller suggest us to do claibration on the first time and everytime. I think it is too crazy. Also, to keep the sensor moist, I used to use tap water to keep the sensor head moist but the seller said"No" ! Must use a special solution - potassium chloride saturated solution to keep the cotton pad in the cover tap wet. My PH pen is a bit differnent from yours.
Hello Adrienne and thank you for all the informative video, specifically the ones relating to fermentation. I just received my PH meter and watched your calibration video. You calibrate with three packets, my meter, which is the same as yours only came with the ph 6.86 @ 25 and the 4.01 @ 25. Instructions are also only for the 2. Any idea why? Did you get the extra packets from Amazon? By the way I am in Canada 🇨🇦. Have a great weekend.
Mine came with 3 so I didn't need to order any. My thought is this - the most important calibration range is the 6.86 and 4.01 .... because in fermentation, you'll probably never see a 9+ PH reading anyway, but you will see the lower range. Point being, I think you'll be just fine with only the two.👍
I don't understand, do different food have different readings. I am guessing because of the 3 packets, different food has a different reading. I just received my meter and haven't read instructions yet. I want to ferment these food to try and help me get over a new diagnosis, of PMR. ARTHRITIS , A AUTOAMUNE DIEASES . IT USALLY LAST 2 OR 3 YEARS. I will be on a rather high dose of STERIODS, PRESIDONE, currently on 40 mg , UGH. I really want to eat super healthy, to get rid of fast. PRESIDONE cause terrible side effects. Heart disease, osteoporosis, tremendous weight gain, moon face , unwanted hair on body, loss of muscle, I could go on and on 75 side effects warnings. Andcaroundx25 more th e y are considering. I need help.
Hello, thank you so much for your videos I'm learning so many good things. I bought my first HP meter have done the test, the same how you show in the video. I fermented garlic, carrots, cabege, hemp milk and water, but I'm not sure if my meter is reading right. Is not showing under 5😢. What can I do? Thank you so much. Hello from Tennessee 😊😊😊
If I dont calibrate, does it work just fine? Or to calibrate it's a must? Cause I have the PH meter but not the poulder sacks. By the way, I really liked this video, it was very well explained. Specially going to details such as how to proceed after use, or cleaning it.
The volume of water needs to be EXACT or the PH will off. Weigh the water to exactly 250 grams added. The temp is important too but just needs to be close enough, it only barely affects PH while water volume affects PH a lot. Also leave the meter in each cup for 30 seconds BEFORE holding for 5 seconds. The meter takes time to read PH. EDIT: also u probably dont have to calibrate it at all, when new it will probably be accurate to roughly 0.1 PH which is close enough for most purposes. Keep probe from drying out by soaking it in distilled water for hours if needed. And always rinse in distilled water before and especially after use. This video was fantastic compared to the other ones i saw which were blatantly wrong about almost everything they said. This one was almost entirely correct, with just a few added steps i posted above.
@peterbrenton410 water has a density of exactly 1 (its conversion is based on water). So 1 milliliter of water weighs EXACTLY 1 gram. Thats what a milliliter is based on.
Fantastic!!!! Once again you alleviate me of information overload and made it easy and thus doable. You are a very effective educator. I appreciate it thanks
Hi, I just got the inkbird ph meter, and have "0" zero experience with them. I have heard of the probe storage solution being used for storage, and cleaning.. Since the world is full of accidents, I want to keep an eye on my town water, and swimming hole.. When should I use it, or should I? Thank you. Great video
Great video! Thanks! I have the same meter (also yellow with the very same buffer bags) but something seems to be wrong with it since it is not sensitive to the fast button pushes to set up the calibration level for the next liquid. It just "tries" to assume what is the pH of the solution and only gets the 9.18 right... The 4.01 is assumed as being the 6.86. The 6.86 suggests a calibration of 9.18 again. Those 3 points in the calibration curve make the reading completely wrong. I am trying to figure out if this is some sort of new hardware version that "guesses" the calibration pH without allowing the user to set it up manually. Maybe they wanted to simplify the process that way, which in my case, generated the opposite effect.
If you bought it from Amazon, I'd send it back and get a new one. Sounds iffy. It is cheaply made which is why its cheaply priced so some 'duds' out there doesn't surprise me.
After the numbers blinking at the right PH on the packages, the numbers start moving up or down before I lift it up, is it normal? When it blink and stop, the numbers matche the packages(except for the 4.01, it reads 4.00)
Hi! You're my favorite resource for lacto-fermentation. Love your videos and I love that you take the time to answer questions. It's my second attempt. I have one jar that had a regular cover and on day 6 (yesterday), I found there was some kham yeast with a few speckles of mold. I removed both with a clean spoon (it was easy, the speckles of mold were not touching the sides) and wiped off the inside with a paper towel as shown. I left the weight in because I didn't have the time to measure the ph nor do a brine flush and wanted to take the ph before flushing to make sure it's worth keeping the pickles. My question is, if we can't clean the ph meter with soapy water, how do we clean it between use to avoid introducing bad bacteria in the next jar we are testing? Thank you.
So long as the water rinse does a thorough job, it's ok. I've never had a problem with contamination with thorough rinsing. PS: just want to make sure about this... never brine flush mid-fermentation. If you choose to do so, always do it at the very end, just before placing in the refrigerator. Good job with the quick swipe for mold removal... no need to remove the weight or PH check every time👍😊
@@CleanFoodLiving Thank you. It's the 8th day today so, should be finished. I don't have that many weights so, I will remove it, take the ph and if 4.5 or below, I will do a little brine flush and put it in the fridge if above, it will go in the compost pile. I will take this opportunity to check the ones with the Easy Fermenter covers and if all good, I will switch for a regular cover and they will go in the fridge. I have only 3 of them and want to have them available when I will try something else. 🙂Thank you again🙏
I recently discovered your channel. It's very helpful! Keep up the wonderful work. Have you already made or will you make videos about lower sodium fermentation? My sodium intake is my only nutrient that is outside of the recommendations. If I were to cut out or down on fermented foods of various kinds (my main source of sodium) I would get to the limit of 2.3g of sodium per day. But I don't want to do that. So lower sodium fermentation would be extremely helpful.
Hi again.. Do I nessssarily need DISTILLED water to add the buffer for calibration.. Can I use regular non chlorine drinking water ? Thank you for your helo..
Very well done! What happens if it's not used for a few months and it dries out? will it dry out with the cap on? If it does will re-calibrating it suffice, or is it shot?
Day two there was lots of liquid coming out of the burp rubber top and after opening it after 4 days there’s no liquid so I can’t check the ph. There’s no fuzzy mold or anything but there’s no liquid.
Thanks for this video : still one fully detailed and beautifully crafted ! I have purchased one of those meters, clearly made by the same manufacturer, its color being green. I've had some problems with the calibration process. I used the 6.86 dose with filtered and not distilled water. Then I used the right water with the 9.18 ph dose, but it has been impossible to dissolve after 20+ minutes of turning it around. I have finished the calibration process with the 4.01 ph dose, and some measures after this seem consistent, particularly distilled water at around 7 ph. The instructions notice says : "use the 6.86-solution (or the 4.01 and 9.18)", which I understand as that you can calibrate the meter with only one solution. Now, this extra solutions seem to be unavailable at Amazon. What to do? Thanks for your suggestions !
Here's some in-stock extras: www.amazon.com/dp/B09DCP4HNH/?tag=cleanfoodli0f-20 . I calibrate to all 3. If you instructions say only one, then it's not exactly the same as the one I use, but will get the job done. Sometimes all those grains don't fully dissolve. I've had that happen to me to, but move forward with the process. It will be ok!👍😊
@@CleanFoodLiving Thanks for your clear, fast and detailed response, this is very useful to me, as fermented food has become an essential tool to fully recover from a long list of food intolerances that made it often very hard to live with !
I need help.
awesome tutorial My auto strains will be thanking you pretty soon lady
Thank u so much for detailed video. Recently i bought ph meter just like yrs. How often do u calibrate ur device?
U made this way easy! Thk u 😊
Thanks for your time and help ❤
Hi, how do we know that the device needs to be calibrated??
Hello, thank you so much for your videos I'm learning so many good things.
I bought my first HP meter
have done the test, the same how you show in the video.
I fermented garlic, carrots, cabege, hemp milk and water, but I'm not sure if my meter is reading right. Is not showing under 5😢.
What can I do?
Thank you so much.
Hello from Tennessee 😊😊😊
Thanks for this video. How often calibration need to be done.
If I dont calibrate, does it work just fine? Or to calibrate it's a must? Cause I have the PH meter but not the poulder sacks. By the way, I really liked this video, it was very well explained. Specially going to details such as how to proceed after use, or cleaning it.
Thank you for these easy instructions and for all of the tips at the end!
I really appreciate your corrections....thanks alot
Grams ? The measurement is 250 mililitres
@peterbrenton410 water has a density of exactly 1 (its conversion is based on water). So 1 milliliter of water weighs EXACTLY 1 gram. Thats what a milliliter is based on.
You have 3 power packets. I just need to know which one I should use to calibrate for drinking water?
What is the Temp/Hold button used for and when is it needed to be used? TY
Thank you. Great video
Hi there do they come out of the box calibrated or does it need to be done from new, thank you.
If my pool water temperature varies between 18-27C degree would a pH calibration at 25C degree impact the accuracy for the varying pool temperatures?
Excellent video thanks for sharing. Where did you get the solution package?
Comes with the meter
Thank you for your helo..
not recommended. it may destroy the accuracy of calibration .
Excellent demo. ! We have that same pH meter model. Is it necessary to calibrate No.3 ? We gonna test our Aquarium pH level
Very well done! What happens if it's not used for a few months and it dries out? will it dry out with the cap on? If it does will re-calibrating it suffice, or is it shot?
Drying out usually kills it and it can't be resurrected (in my experience)
Can it measure the pH changes of a solution because i want to measure pH changes while adding a HCl drop wise to the solution.
Do you have a video for the updated meter?
If you dont have distilled water, can I do it with normal water? Or can I just get normal water to become distilled?
Day two there was lots of liquid coming out of the burp rubber top and after opening it after 4 days there’s no liquid so I can’t check the ph. There’s no fuzzy mold or anything but there’s no liquid.
Thank you so much, that's the exact meter I have. The instructions are quite confusing.
I like a lot the clarity of your explanations, and the attention to the visual aspects of your videos, not to forget the dynamism and the consistency you show all across your channel. Thanks and greetings from the French mediterranean coast ! 💐
The link doesn't work as I am outside of the US. Can you let me know the make/model? I have looked on Amazon and there is a wide eange of testers but none mention ferments. Many thanks.
This video is perfect, appreciate you.
