You can tell that Seb has prepared really well for the origin of the respective superstitions.

😅 well we try to improve with every Video. Sometimes preparation is easy. Sometimes we need to cut a lot of content as otherwise the Video will get too long 😂

I'm German and some of these things I never even heard about before. Most people don't actually believe in it in like a supersticious way, it's more done out of tradition or politeness, for example wishing happy birthday too early is simply seen as unpolite by some people. And the whole "pressing thumbs" is mainly used as an expression today to say that you wish someone good luck/success/blessings, you say "I press you the thumbs" ("Ich drück dir die Daumen").

Not walking under a ladder makes a lot of sense, it just isn't safe. I guess the religious explanation was just added on :)
Didn't the thumb symbolize the sword in ancient Rome? So thumb up is a drawn sword (and that sword is then used to kill the gladiator) and pressed thumb means the sword stays in it's sheath (hope I used the correct English words).
Also don't cheer with alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, some say that will also cause you to have bad sex or others say you will have ugly children.
I think sitting right at the corner of a table is also bad luck, but I don't think this is a super common superstition.

Yeah, I guess there isn't that "one" origin Story for many of the superstitions. So the old Germans (Germanen) apparently believed that the thumbs represent Cobolds and evil Monsters. So they pressed the thumb to keep evil away. And yes for the romans the Thumb represented the sword, so thinking of it as putting the sword back into its sheath is probably correct too. And other theories are linked to the fact that the thumb is the "most important" finger, and losing it is bad luck... so "hiding" the Finger should prevent that...
I did not know about sitting on the wrong side of the table 😅
