    I think that the complaining is a thing in Germany because unlike other cultures, we don't see it as rude if you "pull down the mood". I also think that Germans won't even be affected so much by other people's complains emotionally. We're kinda used to it. We also have the saying "geteiltes Leid ist halbes Leid" (split/shared suffering is half the suffering) and it basically means that if you share your frustration, you will feel better. For that reason, I often feel that in German culture, it can actually be a little rude to not give somebody the opportunity to share his ideas and his suffering with you. Also, if you cannot stand the negativism of complaining about small things, then how would you do if a Germans opens up to you telling you his real big problems? Sometimes, complaining and seeing how the other person reacts is a good way to see if somebody is empathetic or not.

    You don't give a clock to people because that is like cursing them to die. In Chinese, giving a clock is “送钟”,which sounds the same as “送终” - sending someone off in death. I have never heard the one about giving shoes though. And I don't think it's wrong to give someone a watch either, because a watch is pronounced as “表”。Nothing wrong with “送表”。The prohibition applies only to clocks, not watches.

    OMGOSH!!!! I have watched both videos on this subject and all I can say is that you guys/gals are SO SPOT ON!!! My partner and I have been dating for close to 3 years now and he is German (AND Italian!!) and EVERYTHING you have said about dating a German is so true in our case. As an American, there have been aspects of dating a German that I have had to get used to. We met online right before the pandemic and talking to someone online can be MUCH different than being there with them face to face. When we first met, it was right at the lock downs started so He had to end up staying here in the states for months (much longer than we had planned) and we got a really good idea, during that time, of each other's differences. - In the other video you guys talked about the "small gestures" for example. That is very true. My partner is not big on the "mushy lovey big gestures" but he's great at doing little things every day to help me. - The brutal honesty was something that was hard for me to get used to and still is sometimes. I'm southern so we tend to be very polite and "gentle". Germans...........not so much!! :o) - Thank you for these videos, they are very true in nature and it does help others if they are planning on dating a German.

    The subject that Singapore is really advanced at primary school level is maths. Science, everything around writing/literature/compo is not as good. Students filling piles of worksheets is the favourite activity by teachers here. In Germany there is more encouragement for working out your own things. Also, it is a stark difference that in Germany most children going to Nachhilfe are bad in that subject. Tuition in Singapore is kind of part of the regular school system. Almost everyone has it. In my son's class there were some children with 18 h tuition / week, on top of the school time from 7:30 to 13:30, and often several h of homework each day. Many if not most primary school kids have longer daily working hours than adults.

    • @jessandseb1040
      @jessandseb1040 2 роки тому

      The difference in culture is often quite shocking. Do children still have the time to enjoy life and "be children" then? Jess is often wondering why I know stuff about Biology, history or other subjects (which I would consider "Allgemeinwissen"/ common knowledge) and my reply is that we covered that in school. And Jess had the same subject in school, but never learned about it. So for me it Sounds like in Germany we are learning about a broader spectrum of topics, while in Singapore they have fewer topics, but are diving deeper into the subject.

    • @krollpeter
      @krollpeter 2 роки тому

      @@jessandseb1040 Thank you for your kind reply. I am trying to make up for these "problem zones" for my son. Two examples. In history for example they only learn about Singapore's history, from about 1200. We learned the history of the world from the beginnings 5 billion years go, and this in a way that it has a logical flow and makes sense for what later happened in Europe, Germany, but also (to a lesser degree) in Asia and the Americas. I am constantly telling my son stories about human development, invention and meaning of being able to make tools, fire, etc. and other related subjects. Or I show him an interesting video if I stumble over one. Science was an absolute disgrace at his primary school. Sorry to say that, but I mean it. Now in secondary it's somewhat better, however, lumping together Chemistry, Physics and Biology is a bad idea. I am doing with him some physics and related. If you do not know how things work, it does not encourage you to think beyond generally.... and in particular not to think out of the box. To my opinion they are taught how to score well in exams. They are not taught for knowledge. That's a huge difference.

    the cost of living in Munich is about the same as where I live! I live in Melbourne Australia, I would even go as far as to say it's slightly cheaper in Munich. how much does petrol cost per litre now for you guys? It was about $2 a litre a few weeks ago but it's already rising closer to $2.50. I'm interested to see how much rent, gas, electricity etc costs over there :)

    • @jessandseb1040
      @jessandseb1040 2 роки тому

      The sad part is, this Video was shot before Inflation & the Russia-Ukraine war started. Now prices are skyrocketing for many items on a shopping list. It feels like we are paying 10-20% more than in this Video now... Regarding Petrol, currently a litre is about 2€ as well but it will likely increase towards the end of the year. Regarding rent, we are lucky that we have a contract where the actual "rent"-portion of payments does not increase, but our landlord told us that we have to pay about 100€ more for "consumables" (e.g. water & heating) each month. And politicians and the Media are warning people that in winter we may have to face even higher prices and potentially (heating/ electricity) outages as well...
