    I'm the opposite with needs and wants. I've been homeless since 2003 so all we really NEED is some bread and water. We don't even NEED a home. But I can't help others without educating myself financially. I'm binge watching your videos while I'm at work. They let us listen to our earbuds. Others are turning their brains to mush with music while I'm getting educated.

    All you do is just take $2.00 and put in a shoe box every day or whenever you get money. I have about $1800 doing that exact thing. I'm just used to it now. Once you seet the growth you won't be able to stop.

    • @cavemanjoe7972

      How long did it take to get to $1800, and what is the money in that shoebox doing to multiply itself?

    • @ibarix
      @ibarix 3 роки тому +6

      If you've put 2$ every single day, that's ~2,5 years to get to 1800$. During that time, the 3% inflation ate ~133$ so you have 1666$ that were just sitting losing value and not producing more. In short, you can buy less today with 1800$ than 2,5 years ago. ;)

      It's only hard for those who didn't grow up poor. They are used to having a certain level of comfort. I grew up dirt poor, and sometimes we had to skip eating for a day or two every week just to afford rent and bills. When I got out on my own I continued living that way even though I was making good money working construction. Initially I was putting away half my pay into savings, which was overkill. Once I had a years wages saved up I started buying old junkers and fixing them up on my weekends then selling them for a profit. After a while I had 5 years wages saved up. I stuck that in a 5 year CD at the bank and started saving over again. All while skipping meals and not clubbing with all my friends. They were soft, I was hard as nails. Now they worry about their mortgages and I have 8 rental properties that they don't even know about.

    Love your videos, Jaspreet, I watch each and every one of them! I'm wondering if it's worth it to throw my future house down payment money into the stock market when I currently don't know when exactly I'm going to want to buy a house? I want to buy a house sometime within the next 5 years, and I have a big chunk of money saved up, but I don't know if it's OK to throw it into the stock market for now because it has the chance to decrease by the time I want to buy a house?

    • @stonks_n_chomps7556
      @stonks_n_chomps7556 3 роки тому +1

      I believe in the stock market. However, with that being said, can you “afford” to lose your down payment if the market tanks? Can you afford the potential taxes on the gains without it cutting into the initial investment? If you find a house before the 5year mark, how hard will it be for you to pull your investment in a timely manner to be able to secure your house? The potential cons out of the way you can see a conservative gain of around 7% with the stock market, however, some mortgage lenders require a minimum deposit amount in the bank for 3-6 months. So if you don’t have a lot of money and it’s invest or having a reserve balance, I would suggest putting a small portion of it into the market and the rest in a CD or savings. The questions are the same that my grandparents asked me a few months ago. The advice is from the personal decision that my husband and I made a few months ago. Can’t spend or lose the money if it’s sitting in an account that you can’t see on your mobile app.😉 Good luck in your housing and investment prospects!

      I’d say start with just 1000 dollars invested into the S&P 500 index fund of your choice, on average the s&p should rise over 5 percent each year, however during the timeframe it will rise and fall many times, so once you put in the thousand dollars you halve to be prepared to watch it go down in the short term and not sell the shares so it can go up in the longterm

    save 6 months then stop. Buy dividend stocks and roll that money back into buying more stocks.
    Pay off cash back credit cards before the bill is due.

    Best thing I did was have a roommate, actually two ...now my biggest bills are only 1/3. This is cheap living...allows me to save so much! Paid off all my credit cards, etc. Also, my job automatically saves for me with both an ESOP and 401k. And....I don't even make that much money and am gaining wealth! It's all about my attitude. I'm grateful for my job.

    In pursuit of needs and sacrificing your wants, somewhere in between you die, who benefits? All wants are not bad, but what needs to be done at the age it needs to be done, has to be done.

      This is a very valid point. The only ways to move the needle in the situation is by either reducing living cost somehow, or increasing the income, or both! The tighter the situation, the more creative one may need to be in order to bridge the gaps in the finances.

    It’s pretty sad you have to explain this basic saving/investing to people. We are forced to learn Spanish in school but not taught how to be financially responsible adults. Years ago they used to have savings for kids in elementary school, you could bring some money to school in a little savings envelope type thing and put it in a bank. Then they stopped it for some reason or another. So now you have to teach adults to save money what a joke really. The funny thing is our system tells parents basically you are responsible to pay for your kids college, really? What is that teaching? I’ll tell you it teaches kids early on that they are owed something (entitled) just because they were born. My kids paid half of their college and worked as they were in college and I told them from the get go, fail a course you pay for it because there is no reason to not at least get the passing grade especially when your a college student. Amazing how most of these type of kids grow up to be responsible adults. Not party animals in college.

    Never buy a new car, ever. Unless you your wealth is pushing a million. Biggest liability is your car, then your health, then your savings(time lowers the value of your dollar quickly, dont hold cash)Spend heavy on your health, trust. Not the car

    Would it be a good idea to periodically invest into an ETF?

    • @cavemanjoe7972
      @cavemanjoe7972 3 роки тому

      It's not a flat answer.
      If you're interested in ETFs, research the ones you like, and if the numbers work out, put a *percentage* of your investment money into the one(s) you choose and follow the plan.
      Don't screw around, that's how people end up buying high and panic selling in a dip.
