I liked how they did that angle actually. When Shawn went down Vince threw his headset down and jumped in the ring, that never happened before. They tried to make it look legit and it worked.

KHayes666 I remember watching this when it happened. It weirded me out for years. What was really creepy is that there was no sound for the last few minutes while this was happening. The look on Owen's face like hey I didn't do anything to him and then walked away really helped to sell it. This is one of the greatest works of all time.

I remember seeing this live when I was 12. It was the night after the Survivor Series...The way Shawn fell after being in total control of the match to the point of doing the spot where he rebounded back into the ring over the top rope after headscissoring Owen over the ropes to the floor, the horrified look on Owen's face, and Vince taking off his headset and calling for paramedics from in the ring all made it seem real. It was just really eerie and didn't seem scripted at all.

I remember that so vividly, that was actually pretty well done I thought. I sat there with my parents watching and, now I laugh about it knowing it was a work, my mom gasped and watched on with that deer in headlights expression on her face. She totally bought into it and really I did too at that age but mainly because, like I said, it was very well done in retrospect. It's not like now where using local EMT's and ambulances is done to the point that it's lost all meaning, it came off as so real and I think that's really something you can't pull off many more times after that first initial shock. But they've tried anyway.

It was 400 marines, it takes that many to take out the mighty Shawn Michaels. In all seriousness it was beautifully executed, it really does look real the thing that tipped me off was that they kept the cameras on him, they never do that when it's real, probably for legal reasons, if someone dies in the ring and Vince decided to broadcast that on TV to make money off of it he'd be in serious legal trouble

I recall seeing this video on here a while back and considering Corny’s distain for the person that Shawn Michaels was, I thought the angle was legit and it would be Corny for 5 minutes talking about how unprofessional Shawn was. It was a great angle and while I currently have no clue what it led to, it definitely would’ve had me hooked and concerned for Shawn if it currently happened. Well done.

What it led to was Shawn's journey to the WWF world title for the first time. This was all part of the build toward Wrestlemania 12. Shawn returned at the Royal Rumble which be won, then beat Owen at the February 1996 In Your House PPV. Shawn's title shot was on the line. A month later he beat Bret for the title at Wrestlemania.

The Monday Night Wars were about to explode. Hall and Nash were leaving. Then there was a bidding war for Bret. The NWO was about to set the business on fire. I have to disagree saying Shawn was not a draw. The May 1996 show at MSG was the highest grossing non PPV event in the company's history. The main event was Shawn vs Diesel cage match. That was Hall and Nash's last show where the curtain call took place.

HBK's run as a babyface should have been short-lived. He should have been a heel pretty much throughout. All this crap that WWF did to garner sympathy from the fans wasn't working because they'd set him up and Michaels would cut a promo or behave in a way that would piss everyone off.
