- Hey fam! Today I'm excited to share with you guys Merit Beauty, a new clean beauty brand by Katherine Power, now available at Sephora! It's designed to be a minimalist makeup routine, currently featuring a capsule of 6 products (I'm using 5 today), and I'm giving you my HONEST thoughts about these products having had the chance to play with them for a couple of weeks now. I really appreciate the super high quality, close up camera. It’s really frustrating when I’m trying to get a precise understanding of a formula, and someone far away from the camera is saying like “oh, this is blending amazingly” or “this is clinging really badly to my dry spots” and I can’t see any of it for myself :(

Looks like an awesome brand! I was a little taken back by how little product there was in the complexion stick. Its more per ounce than Westman Atelier.

I don't think I can go back to non-tubing Mascara after you introducing me to the Thrive formula. I've found them to be more waterproof than waterproof mascara, and the virtually mess-free wash off is a total game-changer!

I feel like this makeup look turned out very “office professional” in the best way possible. I could see wearing this as an everyday work face of makeup for someone that has to dress the part for work! 👍
Every demo/review I've seen on this foundation and highlighter just looks so fresh and glowy! I dig it👌
Somehow came to this video after I've been using just the blush for a year and one thing I like about it is that compared to other "clean" blushes, the PAO on it is 24 months while most are 12. Expiration dates aren't everything, but it does give me more peace of mind that I'll be able to use it up.

I really like the stick packaging on this and WA but it's so bulky I wish they had a refillable option

Can you do a comparison of the Merit and Westman Atelier?
I am a HUGE Westman Atelier fan but think Merit will work well together with WA. I am happy with everything I bought (skin stick, blush, highlighter, and brow gel) but I’m OBSESSED with the brow gel. It’s worth a try!
Agreed--I just got my order yesterday and the brow gel is amazing!!
How does the 1980 brow compare to others (glossier, benefit, essence, etc)? :)
@@thesimplymodernhomestead it’s similar to the Glossier but with a little less tint. It reminds me of the old Benefit Speed Brow and Glossier mixed together - light tint, mousse-y texture. I find the Gimme Brow too thin and crispy when it dries down.
@@ColleenCarlisle thank you! I have been using the essence one for ages but I also have approximately 7 hairs in both my brows 😂😂 so it’s hard to find a solid brow gel that doesn’t make those 7 hairs look odd haha

I’m getting the highlighting balm now, but I’m also interested in the minimalist, lip oil, & blush. Right now, I’m using lily lolo cream foundations, and alima pure cream concealers, so if I hit pan with what I have it might push off getting the minimalist. If these cream products expire before I hit pan, I’ll go for the minimalist next, but wait for a discount. I’ll get the lip oil and blush later in the year, for sure.
I am so incredibly grateful I just watched this!! I was eyeing the merit complexion stick & the swatches look so off to me! The shade that you have here, looks so warm on the site! The lightest shade says it's cool but looks neutral to me. I think they need to look into the undertones again 😬 I would never purchase online because I cannot tell what shade will work for me 😮💨
What are those blueish color handled brushes you were using? They work beautifully!
I'm a tubing enthusiast as well. And not because of the wash off, I wore waterproof for such a long time that it doesn't phase me, but because my eyes are so stinking sensitive and they rarely upset my eyes. So yes please!
Do you have any recs? Are there any mid range to drugstore ones you've found? I'm curious about them but it's proved difficult to find info (it's often buried in marketing language). This question is for anyone who sees it!

I’ve been so much so looking forward to this review. I’ve already ordered their line, and I’m hoping I love it, although I feel like their pricing for the foundation/concealer is way off compared to the price per gram of their other products. This is more than Westman Atelier in terms of $ per gram, but yet the blush/highlighter is on par. If it works great then the price will be worth it, but that size for the cost is off.
I have both those lines of makeup and to me it was a good deal it’s honestly inexpensive

Welcome to New Jersey, Kackie. If you get the chance to get into NYC, I’d highly recommend Erin McKenna’s Bakery. I have celiac disease, and her treats are the only thing that keep me from plunging into the sad, gluten free void. I’m also a vegan, and all her stuff is vegan. There’s also a Credo store in the city, but I’m sure you know that.

I've been in TX for 35 yrs, I have never seen anything like this. It was so bad. My town didn't have power or water. I am glad you got the heck outta TX when you did.
Austin has been insanely crazy. I have lived in Texas almost my entire life and can confidently say, this is the most insane weather I have ever experienced.

You could mix that highlighter stick with a powder blush or bronzer to make a cream.

I bought this foundation after watching this video! I’m not Kackie, but from my perspective, I actually like it better on first application than I like the WA. It really looks like skin, and it seems just a bit more set, if that makes sense. I’ve been wearing it for a couple hours and it still looks great and hasn’t really moved around or settled at all.

If you ever have diaper genie problems again and are looking for an alternative, the Ubbi is literally the most brilliant baby contraption I've ever discovered. It's pricey, but it's stainless steel and never stinks, and you can use ANY kitchen garbage bags that fit.
I was sent Merit beauty before they launched and I was SO hopeful for this mascara because it was very much so hyped up. As you described your thoughts on it I was just like YES. SAME. YES. Just Dissssssssssappointed! I was pretty sad actually lol it felt over hyped and then underperformed for me.
I do love cheeky! I love the blush with my salt Bronzer.

How does this highlighter compare to the ilia?
Have you ever tried the Trish McEvoy lash curling mascara? I like the Thrive or Hourglass tubing mascara better, but the Trish McEvoy has a natural bristle wand and I did find that it builds better than the Thrive or Hourglass. It definitely has a more natural and less dramatic look though.... I wonder if it’s similar to the Merit...?

@@kackie it is! I believe the high volume mascara is a tubing mascara, too, but it’s a thinner wand (not my jam).
I've been waiting for this review and appreciate your honesty! Been on the fence about trying WA foundation stick and wanted a comparison with the Merit stick. Any additional thoughts in comparing the two?

@@kackie You don't like one more over the other? I only use WA for concealer and spot checking. Nothing else (I've never liked foundation all over my face).
I wish I could get tubing mascara to work. I dont know what I am doing wrong. I tried several . I have very very thin lashes and they are light . this mascara I actually liked and it didnt irritate my eyes. But i am not a professional
I know this is older, but I am thinking about replacing my WA stick with one of these considering it is so much cheaper and I don't need a lot from my foundation. I'm so curious how they will compare for me. I also ordered the Sublimage though so will this be the end of the stick for me? Nah, there's a place for alll the foundations!

How would you rate the Merit foundation stick versus the Westman Atelier one? Per gram, Merit is significantly more than Westman and the packaging isn't as luxe. Just curious how you'd choose between them or if you wouldn't try to equate them.
Well I have both lines of these makeup brands annd they are the same no difference what so ever you might be paying for the brand to be really honest with you I thought I’d let you know so can make a great decision

The highlight in SNY vs Merit are so different-Merit is much glossier, more wet looking & doesn’t last as long on me. Very natural and subdued-I love it but feel like I have to reapply throughout the day bc my skin soaks up the oils in it. Salt New York is more luminous, while still looking natural but has much more impact. SNY is more of a dry formula (less emollient) and lasts much longer on my face. Love Merit complexion stick though!
@@chelseybrown14 okay this is super helpful. I love the super glossy look, but I'm not one to re-appy throughout the day. Maybe a top up in the evening. So maybe opt for the merit complexion stick and then go for the salt new york palette. the highlight in beige looks stunning. still don't know what shades of blush and bronzer to get!

The merit stick seems to separate on my dry spots and the only solution I’ve found is priming my face with a face oil which i never use. Anyone have any good beauty oil recommendations?
Pai has an amazing oil, Prunier has a great one too, and RMS has one you might like!

I haven't tried the WA, but have been really loving the Merit. Funny story, the WA is about 2.5x more product so it actually ends up being significantly cheaper per oz. I've been putting off trying the WA because of the price, but I think I might try it now.

@@melanielalonde3575 do you think that if you wear the WA lightly every day -ish you'd get through it fast enough to benefit from the extra product before it expires? If it would take 3 years to get through it, the extra product might not mean much.

I just finally tried this brand and came back to this video to see if it was considered “tubing” mascara bc as a “non tubing mascara lover” I do not like how it washes off either 😅 I use cleansing balm or oil and it didn’t quite work bc it requires the water so I get some of it off but still have chunks on my lashes and it’s super frustrating for me. I’d rather have a normal formula the melts with cleansing balm/oil 😅❤️
I want to add here that I remove my makeup outside of the shower. So if mascara requires water to be washed off it’s more difficult bc water runs down your arms and well, no one likes that. Lol
Merit has great marketing, unfortunately I had one of the most disappointing Customer Experience with them. I was supposed to get both the Signature bag and Summer bag accdg to my confirmation email, but none arrived. When I asked for it, they gave me a free shipping voucher which is about $5. Now I wish I spent all $120 on Westman Atelier instead.
