The Difference Between Melt and Pour vs Cold Process Soap // Brambleberry's Wildflower Shea soap kit

  • Today Cale and I make a soap scented with Wildflower Breeze from Brambleberry's Bohemian Blooms collection. I make my version through the cold process method of blending oils and butters with lye to emulsification. Cale makes his version using Brambleberry's Wildflower Shea melt and pour soap kit. See how the two soaps turn out!

    From my experience with melt and pour. Any extra oils or butters you add will still be in their raw form just inside the soap. Because when the supplier made the melt and pour base, the saponification process already turned all the oils and butters into the soap, so adding extra now does not turn that into soap too. But it's good to try so you know yourself.
    Great video. Keep them coming.

    It's so weird how soaping varies. I live in Ontario as well but I have to do my soap totally different. I made soap for a couple of years and it was always 50/50 in success. It took me years to finally get a recipe that works every time. I always thought it was because everyone I was learning from was in the USA and the different climates was the factor I was having problems with. But even we make soap totally different. I never put soap in the oven (I did once and the soap was garbage I will never do again). I do all my soaping at room temp (I tried doing at higher temp and always had problems). I am so thankful that we have someone here in Ontario who's helping all of us Canadian Soaper's. Thank you

    You can also use a vanilla stabilizer in CP soap to stop the discoloration, to some degree, of the frag. oils or ess oils. You would use the same amount of vanilla stab as you would frag oil and add to CP soap together.

    Love your videos, can you teach how the oven works for cold press soap. 😊🙏

    • @iKit306
      @iKit306 3 роки тому

      It's part of the processing known as CPOP (cold process oven process). After pouring a cold process soap, you put it on the oven to force it to reach internal temperatures high enough to achieve a complete gel phase.
      The basic idea (tweak as needed for recipes) is to turn your oven on to preheat to a low temperature. Some people say 120, others 150, and still others 170 (all temperatures in Fahrenheit). Do your soap making thing. Then turn off the oven and pop your mold (presuming it is oven safe) into the oven. Some people leave it overnight, others only for a couple hours.
      It IS important to turn the oven off because you don't want to actually bake your soap.
      Some risks include overheating and cracking your soap or even a volcano so it shouldn't be done if using additives and fragrances that can heat up your soap on their own. Using additives like milks may find the sugars in them scorched.
      I would recommend Googling CPOP steps for more info.

    Iv been a MP Soaper for 8yrs now.
    I believe MP Soaper are still Soapers
    You should have sprayed the clear with rubbing alcohol before pouring the white as the rubbing alcohol acts like glue

    I think melt and pour is a good starter project, but I truly believe that cp & hp is the true soap creating work of an artist, there is si much more to it than melting it and adding things and pouring into a mold go use 4 hours later. It'd hood for kids, me I love CP 💘

      In case it isn't clear why I said that, most botanicals go brown in M&P soap (people say it's mould, but it isn't, it's oxidisation), except for cornflowers and calendula. So to find out that cornflowers come in pink as well as blue is really exciting!
