I practically lived backpacking all over Emigrant when I lived in Turlock two years ago. Truly an amazing wilderness with such depth of beauty. Spent a few nights on Gem and others. Nice video!

Danny Chanhnoy it is definitely a bucket list item! There's just something so... serene about having everything you need in one backpack and having nothing else to do but put one foot in front of the other

I've backpacked the Emigrant Wilderness since the early 1980s. My two favorite trails are the Huckleberry Trail that starts at Kennedy Meadows Resort, and the Walker River Trail on the Nevada side. What I refer to as "God's Country"

I felt compelled to comment on your video. like myself, I have taken my kids backpacking in the same area, with similar results... I have seen (Watched) many different videos from the same area, but none seem to tickle my fancy. That said, yours somehow had that magic that kept me enthralled! I have been backpacking for about 35 years, and mostly did it by myself, with my dog, but when the kids came, (yippee!) I felt it was my responsibility to introduce them to the real world outside of the city. As many times as I have explored our great mountainous regions, I have very seldom come across a video that seem to capture the meaning (The essence if you will) of the great outdoors, that is until I found yours... You are young, but seem to understand the simple things that as humans we need. I bet your father (Although very shy) is very proud of his little lady! you did a wonderful job here, and as the Sacwildlife wrote - " Look forward to many others in the future". With today's technology, and the distractions of the world, people are missing out on what is most important... These times with our children, and others are precious, and can't be duplicated by merely staring into our phones and the like... Good luck to you and yours, and may the spirit of the forest keep you hungry for more.

Todd Guidi Thank you so much! This means so much to me. I'm glad I got to share my experience and hope to continue doing so. I make these videos to hopefully inspire others to go outdoors and explore for themselves and I'm so happy I got to reach someone and make something that means something to someone. Thanks for coming on this adventure with me. Its great to escape society once in a while and I think it's wonderful that you're teaching your kids that.

Gonna hike part of the PCT (Pacific crest trail) next year with one of my sons. I trained for it back in 1982, but twisted my angle at Castle Crags up at northern California and had to give up the ghost!
Anyway, we are all very excited, and continue today with our much needed training for the trip.
      Keep it up...
      Todd

That's awesome! It's a bucket list item for me to try the PCT (even if it's not the full way through). I would love to hike part of it someday. It's never too late to chase after your dreams. Hope you guys have fun and stay safe!

BRAVO! That was a nice little video. Very visually pleasing. The music was nice too. Good job. Hope it's only the first of many more backpacking trips. Maybe next time you'll let dad say something. :-)

Such a great video! I recently did my first backpacking trip on that exact trail, but going the opposite way (did the lower trail going out, coming back on the upper). :)

Thank you for watching! I think we started and ended at the crabtree trailhead. The trail we took had a lot of switch-backs and got a bit tough especially during the hotter times, but I'd recommend doing the loop around Gem lake or even farther if you have the time since there are a lot of beautiful lakes along the hike. Have fun!

Consider waterhouse lake if you want to avoide busy crabtree trail
