I've backpacked the Emigrant Wilderness since the early 1980s. My two favorite trails are the Huckleberry Trail that starts at Kennedy Meadows Resort, and the Walker River Trail on the Nevada side. What I refer to as "God's Country"

I practically lived backpacking all over Emigrant when I lived in Turlock two years ago. Truly an amazing wilderness with such depth of beauty. Spent a few nights on Gem and others. Nice video!

I have been backpacking the Emigrant Wilderness since I was 16, now 61 I never get tired of the beauty of the Emigrant.

But it's more realistic for Cal to choose the crown, no? I mean, Mare was basically asking him to choose between the girl that he had loved for about a year and an identity that had been carved in him by his father and kingdom for many years. She was asking him to choose her or himself, his whole self, his entire purpose and existence. It was hinted in the book that Cal didn't think the way things are (which is Red slavery) is right, so its logical to think that Cal and his naive self would think it would be better for him to try to help the Reds by being a king and rule better, cause that was how he was damned raised to do. And he never for once hated the idea of being the heir to the throne, he was okay and even want to be king before the books started. It would be selfish of Mare to think he should choose her over what he is.
