Whet means sharpen! This isn't just one of my favourite knife channels btw, this is one of my favourite forms of entertainment in general. Laughed my ass off at the intro.
I absolutely love these videos with Mrs Pete. She's awesome, and while you're teaching her it's like you're teaching us. Also when she asked how much stuff cost, I felt the expression you made in my bones. Hahaha!
Since finding your channel last year I've watched every video in chronological order. All of the best, most memorable videos are with your wife. The people demand more wife videos. Not just the sharpening series but some more Q&A would be great too. Thanks so much for all the laughs.
I always love these with you two, my wife buying a bougie new wall cabinet to hide all my sharpening stuff so she could do away with the knife cart Is her max level of knife involvement ,however she does have a godson in her purse, so rapers beware. 😂
That's.... damned good for first time freehanding. I'm sure there's a lot of us watching who wished we had such guidance when we were first delving into the use of bench stones. The elbow grease I could've saved!
I love seeing partners try out each others' 'things,' always makes me really happy ❤ And she did a great job, she should be proud, that is not easy to do!!
She did great! Better than I could ever do. I gave up stone sharpening years ago. Watching this has made me consider trying again, thanks to the various tips I've got from this and your other videos.
Wow, what an utterly fantastic, pleasing, happy, beautiful video. Didn’t have time to watch the entire video with my previous comment finally did. Really great stuff. I’ve been meaning to tell you how exciting these free hand sharpening videos of you lately. When I first became a super fan of yours, it was always the perfect edge on some impossible huge industrial looking machine (I’m talking way back videos) Idk why really but, since i was a small child (35 now) I’ve always been terrified of being lost in the bush with a dull knife cause I couldn’t get home to my $800 factory level electric powered machine. (im from Alaska grew up hunting & fishing) So it’s been about 3 years or more of every day to every week hand sharpening. I’ve come so far. And as someone who’s only done this, I can say you’ve come super far too. It’s wild seeing you evolve in another video with your forward reverse sharpen. I will, as sad as it is for both of us? That your wife’s first sharpen ever was a billion times better than mine. I didn’t have anyone teaching me, I’ll say that, but still even after instructional videos she is a year in a half ahead of where I was when I first started! And so that just goes to show. One: yes your wife has wonderful hand coordination and raw skill, however it also shows IMHO how overthinking kills free hand sharpening. Took me a long time to realize that. And I get my best edges when I don’t focus too hard, zone out and sharpen away. You guys are my favorite. Thanks as always!!!
The original meaning of "whet" is to prepare something. If you whet a knife, you sharpen it in preparation of cutting. If you whet a stone, you soak it in preparation. The expression "whet your appetite", same thing, you are prepared to eat.
Ok. I had to pause the video and look it up. To sharpen is to Whet. Therefore, a sharpening stone is also a whetstone. We all learned something from that. Cheers.
For the the first 11min I was screaming at the screen, "lock your wrist, and raise your elbow" once you get to the tip. You finally told her how to do that, even though she still struggled with it for a bit. But what I found to be interesting is that when she flipped the knife over to do the opposite side, and she pulled it towards herself, (for the very first time) she locked her wrist and raised her elbow perfectly. This is a great video as usual. Luv this channel for at least 5 years now.
What a nice lady. Such a good sport for putting up with her husbands muppetry. I enjoy seeing the two of you interact. Makes me wish I had tried this with my late wife. It would have been a hoot. You better watch out though, I used to take my wife target shooting and the old lady ended up being a much better shot after a little practice. Nice to know ya have Annie Oakley at your back. Of course, if she ends up being the more skilled sharpener then it's only fair that she sharpen all the knives from now on. 😉
9:06 "What happens when you go too far" This is undoubtedly the #1 biggest problem with freehand sharpening, all of my blades end up covered in scratches (this of course is made infinitely worse when I sharpen everything at 10 degrees per-side instead of the usual 15 degrees per side).
yeah it tends be a thing that woman just naturally have better hand to eye cordnation, but im sure you building her up to this along with the instruction helped, love the videos as always
You guys are so entertaining to watch and just riff off each other so well! Would definitely watch you do a lets play together.. start with a heavy rain playthrough or something😂
Now that she’s basically a sharpening master, is it time for Teresa to teach Pete about one of her hobbies? You guys are great! I’m glad you guys are doing this series, we were starting to worry about the poo smearing and anthropomorphic brick friends..
G'day Pete & Mrs Pete, as another 50+ friend of the channel; I'd suggest, in the words of Guns 'n Roses ................... just a little patience. It's a life skill, like sewing on a button, cook a decent meal, nail a paling back on a fence etc, etc. And the younger you learn it, the easier it is I reckon. Cheers Duke.
Awesome! Another Terry and Pete wife sharpening video. You guys have great chemistry, and i guarantee that knife guys the world over are jealous of Teresa's interest, enthusiasm to learn, and share in Pete's interest as i am. Great stuff. You guys are funny 😂 Whet, meaning to sharpen either a tool or your appetite comes from the old English "hwettan" and germanic "wetzen" meaning sharp. I sure hope you discover who the mystery poo spreader was 🙄😆😂
How many cuts through say meat sticks can the wife do before the knife can no longer effectively slice through paper? And what will she do to bring back that edge when Pete’s not around?
Knife sharpening was initially invented by Charles Thaddeus Whet and his patented "Whetstone". Before him men just bought new knives when they got dull. Source: trust me bro
BTW, love these videos! You two are awesome together! (Audience says, "Awwww!") Edit: I was so excited that you sliced the paper I actually yelled YAY!!! I'm way too shaky for whhhhet stone sharpening. Well done!
You guys are great together on camera and likely in life. Very cool that your wife participates in such a weird hobby with you. FYI, I'm not a spy, which is of course what a spy would say...don't know why I felt compelled to say that, but it is the absolute truth. Anyway, your wife is willing to learn, is brave, asks great questions, and is absolutely lovely! Great video! Pete is probably going to try for a new baby tonight.
I now consider myself pro level. I'm 63 so way better than those 58 year olds, and I use both right and left hands to hold rather than going backwards, just like the boss 😎
i am laughing so hard at all of the Wife Sharpening videos 🤣 Whet is Old English and it meant to sharpen, or to enhance, such as to Whet the appetite. it literally means sharpening stone 🤓
Now stuff is getting real! She's free handing and she's gonna be a boss at it! Just wait! Come on girl, let's see those free handing skills grow! I'm tired of being the only professional free hander that's a chick!
mate , your so lucky to have another human who loves you , how did you trick her into it , you must have hid your true side , only kidding , love you guys , your both the biz , great vid , more please , p
"if this is an expensive knife, why is it so ugly?" made me lol (she's not wrong!).
"Because your stupid husband bought the orange version."
That color looks horrible on that blade.
@@gonad84 yes, but you won't lose it.
the orange coating can look a bit confusing but the overall shape is definitely not ugly..in my opinion :)
Whet means sharpen! This isn't just one of my favourite knife channels btw, this is one of my favourite forms of entertainment in general. Laughed my ass off at the intro.
Lock your wrist and use your elbow to get to the tip. its so much easier to hold and maintain an angle while getting the entire blade shape
Great tip. Cheers 🍻
@@grahamcairns2249Great tip to get a great tip!
Love seeing this crossover.
The banter between the two of you is goals.
I absolutely love these videos with Mrs Pete. She's awesome, and while you're teaching her it's like you're teaching us. Also when she asked how much stuff cost, I felt the expression you made in my bones. Hahaha!
great job she killed it! wow all the guys punching the air right now lol its like its not even that hard to do
This is the look of a proud husband at the end!

These wife sharpening vetoes just feel wholesome
My dear, you truly do have a very loving wife.
*patient
The training wheels analogy was too perfect

What an amazing job! Her form is fantastic. I've been too nervous about free handing but now I'm inspired!
Smearing poo on all those easy systems is a despicable thing to do. I wonder if they’ll ever get to the *bottom* of who did it?
some mysteries are so complex they arent worth the costs on investigation
@@CedricAdaI would like to have a crack on what happened behind the scenes.
Ask Vege, he mite know who did it 🤨 🤣
That was wholesome AF. Made me smile

How much did you have to pay the beautiful model to sit next to you?
good instruction surrpounded by silliness- fun to watch
Ok. I had to pause the video and look it up. To sharpen is to Whet. Therefore, a sharpening stone is also a whetstone. We all learned something from that. Cheers.
Not quite right . Let's use a different subject . Whether your appetite. Whet means to prepare.
@davidheath2427 edit: There are 2 meanings; please check a dictionary before correcting another.
@grahamcairns2249 then please explain both with out being an arse .
The poo reveal 🤣🤣🤣
I felt young until I watched this…
And you are doing so much better than I have my first 10-20 times!
Love the wife video's, keep them coming! Thanks for all of the work you do for the blade community!
It’s almost like it’s not that hard… Pete’s face lol😂
I wish I could get my wife to do this! Really awesome to see y’all doing things together. It makes for a long lasting marriage! Good job!
Great technique Tree. Pretty smooth & you really took to lifting the elbow for the point !

Just adorable, in a completely sincere way. Restores faith in human nature in so, so many ways.
youre a genius and this is THE dynamic duo
It made me giggle :D Thank You both!
What a great sport she is 😊 my wife would probably have used the either the stone or the blade on me when I told her the prices😅
Great video! I know Vegemite when I see it!
He said it was poo, but really it just *tastes* like poo.
"So we're gonna do that, but without the guide" Her: "Why?" Credits. I am so with her on this one!
This video with your wife, teresa, has been very informative and fun
Your wife did great. I think I need to sharpen one of my knives just because of this video.

Whet means to sharpen/sharpening
Excellent job Tree!!!! 🫡
Your wife is the next UA-cam star!🎉

That's pretty great for a first time out Geeze. She had some good instruction though.
Dang, great job girl !
Don't feel bad Pete, I (like many others) had to pause the video and google why there was an H in whetstone.

Well I didn't think I would see a swinger knife sharpening video today, but that happened.
There were a couple hints before, but hahahaha.

You're going to have to get that shit off with a pencil eraser.
Well done, Pete and Tree, you got all the bases covered, poo, boobs, and knives!
Wait at 19 am I young enough to count as young? If so, hell yeah!
I literally lost my breath when the poo covered hand was revealed!!! 😂😂😂
Mrs Pete need to start her own channel.

She's already better than I am at freehand sharpening.
this is a great uplifting and modern new episode. KNIFE LIFE and the family LMAO ... like Brady bunch

I know right I’m a better backseat sharpener than sharpener myself!
She is brilliant and you are braver than me. I am always afraid if my wife learns this then what is my being purpose in her life :d
Lmao the beginning
I am a 51 yr old man here but prefer machines. I am waiting for the wifey Tormek sessions.

ESEE dull. Channel is not
“Super hard, super brittle”. Just like the UA-cam commenters 😂
Borat voice: My wife.
Pete put vegemite on everything!
Oh, and to whet means to sharpen. Everything is a Whet stone, not everything is a wet stone.
Vegemite and pooh look identical...probably taste identical too.
Whet simply means to sharpen, like whet your appetite. To sharpen your appetite lol.
