- Handyman Blues is the new video taken from Billy Bragg's Top 20 UK Charting album 'Tooth & Nail'. Purchase Tooth & Nail from the following places iTunes - smarturl.it/bbt... // Amazon (CD) - smarturl.it/bbt... // Amazon (Vinyl) - smarturl.it/bbt...
Directed by Johnny Vegas, the video features Stewart Lee, Kevin Eldon, Phill Jupitus, Samuel West, Neil Morrissey, Ricky Grover, Ross Noble and Johnny Vegas.
Dear Mr Bragg. Thank you so much for writing this song. I am a (very happily) married man whose wife cannot understand why I cannot do DIY. I am a musician, music teacher and EFL teacher. Exactly why she thinks I can double as a plumber, carpenter, tiler, gardener, bricklayer, etc, I do not know. I never ever claimed to be.- why does she think this? I would love to be able to do these things, but I can't - I may end up injuring somebody. Probably myself! You expressed my thoughts perfectly. Thank you so much.
Grow some
I can understand your wife's expectations.

@@ChrisGamblegrow some ... pumpkins??? .but he cant garden he just told u
I am absolutely hooked on this which I only discovered recently
Recently? 6 years later and I’ve only just discovered this 😂better late than never!
brilliant vid, great song great man mr bragg
Amazing song and a very cool video!
Shakin' Stevens has let himself go...
Unfortunately I can do all the practical stuff. taught it for 30 years, but I can't write poetry.
Mark Lamarr's let himself go.
I was in B&Q last week when a guy in an orange apron asked if I wanted decking... Luckily I got the first swing in!
Sorry... it just seemed to work. I'll be quiet now...
"I'm here all week... try the veal!" Top man!
What's General Ratko Mladić doing in B&Q?
letting himself go
Everyone has to diy
Lol chilling
Only now realising the existential crisis that Neil Morrissey must have had when voicing Bob the Builder.
Johnny singing he's not good at pottery :-)
Ross Noble's podcast sent me here.
Here we have a proper song everyone. A real song that kicks, punches and stays.
Does it get any better than this? When music and pictures get it right you can end up with something spectacular. I love this!
Never tire of watching this - something I can't place my finger on that's incredibly moving and heart warming at the same time. Love it
"The Actor" Kevin Eldon
Thank you Billy! My younger brother's funeral tomorrow. Yeah I know a lovely man, Mark, lifelong member of the Labour party ( I never joined but have only ever voted Labour) who introduced me to your first 2 albums. So that was it love your stuff, saw you in Durham commenorating the miners' strike. We have "Milkman of Human Kindness" on his memorial slideshow
Stay strong brother✊
@@jd_jd_jd Cheers!
What a great line up. Forty years ago I witnessed Billy tear the roof off at a student union in Ponty, when he closed his set with Chuck Berry and Little Richard numbers, stormed it! Always admired the man's integrity, then I realised the depth of his talent. I've come here from the great Ricky Grover's 'Happy and You Know It' podcast, which I heartily recommend to the house. Stay in, stay safe, see you all in the happier times to come.
Still coming back after 2 years
the handyman of human kindness ... this is genius
'I'm not any good at pottery so let's lose a t and just shift back the e'
So, so good.
I guess Im kind of off topic but do anyone know of a good place to watch new series online ?
@Colten Xavier Flixportal :D
@Remy Miller Thanks, I signed up and it seems to work :) I appreciate it!!
@Colten Xavier Glad I could help =)
Some brilliant actors and comedians in this music video for a brilliant song by a brilliant singer
I suppose I was able to make more of an emotional connection to this song because my father was, funnily enough, the one who introduced me to it in the first places.
I know my lack of common sense and practical skills frustrates him at times, but I also know he understands on a certain level.
In fact, he recently sent me these lyrics with a little note attached, "I think you enjoy these."
Johnny Vegas no good at pottery.
Sheer genius.
Billy Bragg, he shows me what life would be like if I lived at a slower tempo, in fact so slow that paramedics would worry about my pulse. Nice video JV, & nice example of how not to over act from the lad's.
A beautiful slice of blues, crafted with wit and finished with aplomb. As opposed to a plumb line, which I (of course) know nothing about.
Just seen this for the first time and I love it.
Fantastic. I love the lyric 'I know it looks like I'm reading the paper...'. Also Ricky Grover breaking down on the ladder whilst Stuart Lee is bored and sits down.
From protest songs and songs with social comment to this one which is a bit of a laugh. The guys got talent and no mistake. Nice one Billy.
Johnny is *literally* Geoff Maltby in this. Absolutely phenomenal song made better by an incredible video.
LOL!! That was so funny, all these guys in a handyman support group. Thats actually a really good idea. Some guys need help getting off the ground in terms of handy skills. I can definitely relate. LOVE Billy Bragg, looking forward to seeing him like I do every time he comes around.
You big bunch of girls! you lot can write good comedy and songs and stuff, but please don't let us average guys down by saying you can't do DIY! - our world (blokes like U and me) is based on us being hopeless at everything, but we always try our best at DIY, and on the whole, that is the single most important thing we can bring to our normal family lives - long live the man and the diy! - (love it btw :) )
I'm so happy he made this video. I was not expecting to see any of those blokes. Lol
Words cannot describe just how wonderful this is.
That's my favourite bit too, love Stewart Lee's reaction there. Also Samuel West - surely the next Doctor Who?!
What a lot of riff raff! Magical track & funny video. Save us from the crazies, Billy! Barking Abbey Comp. refusenik 🦄
Johnny Vegas Is class underrated in my eyes and a class song
How did he get all them famous actors I thought billy Bragg was a sort of hidden gem
Haha love the song and video!!!
Work sucks. Everybody knows that.
I love this video even though I'm quite a handyman, but wallpapering? No way Mrs. does that, I won't touch it, I'd end up wrapped like a mummy! ;)
I don't think you know what a communist is
I love that Johnny got the pottery line, an excellent bit of subtle humour.
Great effing video!
I just listened to this song and love it. I thought it was entirely about me until the whole "but I can write songs" bit at the end.
all the comics . brilliant 👍
It's getting a bit tiresome, people saying, "So-and-so has let themself go." It got boring ages ago. It's not funny... at all.
I am here from the future! The joke remains, and it's also the least bad thing happening right now.
Have found out that I have been bought tickets to see BB later in the year during the tour for the new alburm - fantastic! I look forward to singing this song with my wife so that she knows that I too have the handyman blues.
Probably my favourite song from Billy Bragg’s splendid new album and this video features some of my favourite people in a witty little video. Thumbs up all the way then…
Ha. The irony..Johnny Vegas studies pottery in College....😆😆😆
I don't know what you're actually saying. You don't know who he is? Billy Bragg. What's hypocritical? That he campaigns on behalf people who are in less fortunate circumstances? He doesn't cause the circumstances, as far as I know. If the communists had one what? (which communists?). What's a high ranching party? Does it involve horse wrangling and cowboy activities?
This is just fabulous. Sardonic, gentle and of course, a cast of thousands. It's ironic though that the ad that was on before I watched the video was for the Kardashians on Fox - not sure they got the demographic right or The Bard would be that happy with them all over the top of his video!
The Stew fans making ironic, self-referential jokes about his previous material and there's a handful of others who just didn't get it replying with "that's Stewart lee you noob!" Or "urm you do realise he make that jk himself rite?" - they'd be sitting up on the balcony for sure.
I think *insert name of celebrity who isn't in this video but might make an hilarious comparison to someone who is in it* has really let themself go. (Then wait for thunderous applause at quality of satire, like one of the Russells on Mock the Week).
Uh, you don't have to live the life of the downtrodden in order to stick up for them. In fact, it would be better if more people who have an affluent lifestyle had this outlook. Or is that too much to actually think about?
Phill has known Billy since his Porky The Poet days. I assume Samuel West is the one guy I DIDN'T recognise. And props for giving Johnny Vegas the line about being rubbish at pottery considering he has a degree in art & ceramics.
"Did you see what I did there? Pure genius..."
surely everyone knows you should not use a black and decker power screwdriver cat.No.MX.3452 , when mending a shed. you need the BOSH 674.9xc. come everybody, get a grip
You do realise though it's a gag Stewart Lee makes about himself yeah?
I thought Bob The Builder would've been a good Handyman. Pfft.... yet more proof that you shouldn't believe everything you see on TV.
The only thing in Phill Jupitus' favour is that he's not Neil Morrissey - the obnoxious fly in an otherwise brilliant ointment.
isn't it Tinita Tikaram? Oh no wait, it's a squashed Albert Finney
great - sums up all us crap diyers - I think this may be the new theme song for all the sheddies for this years shedweek
What's the conceit of the gag at the end, that they can't reveal themselves to be guitary arty types in Wickes?
Who's the guy with the long black hair guys? I remember him from something... Anyways, great song of Mr Bragg!
There are people sat at home, watching it, saying "It would have been better if Michael McIntyre was in it".
Stella cast & so much heartache ,why is it that to be a real man you have to be great at DIY ?
BB is a poet for all and IMHO a national treasure.
Sorry about all the mistakes i have made with my grammar i am dyslexic. I should have put won and not one
Love the roll of the eyes from Ross Noble after Kevin Eldon high fives him.
No they'd be the viewers watching at home, not like the good folks who actually paid to see him.
Oh my stars and garters! John McCain is looking a little gaunt. Did he have some undercooked mash?
This is gold dust
a rather poignant song about how a mans worth is not defined by his ability to do """practical""" work, somewhat undermined by footage of comedians trying to climb a ladder
Is that first singer Kevin Eldon?
Yes!
Was Johnny planning to be in the video from the start, or did the others force him to when they saw there was a line about pottery? 😄
Yes, but everyone says it now, so it's got a bit tiresome. It's funny when he does it.;)
Try to avoid 'Do It Yourself' shops as much as possible, this song is very relevant for me👍
There is a significant amount of midlife crisises happening right there in that video.
once again everyone seems to be overlooking the role played by The Actor Kevin Eldon.
You put Phil Jupitus in that position and miss out Neil Morrissey? For shame... :-P
Sanest comment thread on youtube, a bunch of music lovers saying fuckin fuck yes about a great song.
Johhny Vegas directed the video... so I guess he had first dibs at that line
This song reminds me of Married With Children by Oasis
Joel George ft AD - 90s Kids
Check it out if you're one of us #90sKids
I saw you perform at March in March Sydney. I'm loving this song mate, you just got another sub :)
Great song that I empathise with fully. And a great video as well.
Although technically Outdoor Type is by Smudge sorry to be pedantic.
I take it you're not familiar with Stew's actual stand up though...
Bloody marvellous. Simple, true and fun.
Who's the guy in the leather jacket?
Phill Jupitus. He directed the video for "Sexuality."
Sjarm Dertien Phil Jupitus is also a long term friend of Billy's ✌🏼
I bet they can do diy really. They're just saying that they cant.
I think its the Grey's vs the blacks.I think us Grey's have won!
Great song, what a load of talent too. Top marks to Mr Vegas for directing.
He's not in it...don't you even know who Stewart Lee is?
Great video for a great song, but Neil Morrissey's a wild card choice
That song was written about me. Just like Satuday Boy.
yeah that was a nice touch. he directed it didn't he?
You know that that's a joke Stewart Lee himself made?
