As a hopeless bungling amateur, I think this video is probably the best video I’ve ever seen. Please will you highlight this video within your series of videos. Thank you.
We were talking about tiger stripes today. Im suffering tendinitis at the moment so its hard to apply pressure on the 2nd and 3rd pass. Ive found on the 3rd pass using a sponge float helps with this problem then hitting with the flex. Just a tip that might help others. Though i wouldnt recommend a sponge float on a ceiling. Keep up the good work fellow plasterers. Its a tough game but we love it.🤝 Im 21 years in the trade. Every day is a school day.
Ive been plastering for over 40 years and have often looked at so called tutorial videos and they always over complicate things and must be very confusing for beginners, yours are the best I've watched, well done
I’m a year into the trowels now and spent a lot of time on UA-cam watching all the different channels and you are by far the best in my opinion only recently found you and I’ve learnt more from your channel in that time than any other, please keep the videos up mate 👍
Brilliant video, thank you. I plastered my first wall last week and made almost every mistake you mentioned! Can't wait to go again and try it with all your tips. Thanks!
I would second this I've been plastering for a few years and you have some great tips and tricks which I'm using in my day to day so cheers mate keep the vids coming 👍🤙
Nice video, Iv been plastering over 20 years now. Learned the hard way with old school plasterers, your videos are great. Anyone watching to learn has a gold mine here, people like me learned a lot of this the hard way
Brilliant that Kirk it will help a lot of lads who are self taught as myself well I went to college and got my c&g but that didn’t teach me shite so I got on a council contract patching which was ideal but it wasn’t till I partnered up with another plasterer5 years later till he put me rite on few things tiger stripes was one of them and yes I was putting on 2 thick splashing my flatten and too sharp an angle on trowel too early but ay m8 your fine detail in these videos is what other channels are missing so thx m8 for the effort your putting in on top of a hard days graft it’s appreciated from a lot of spreads and especially newbies who are gonna get a head start on this channel 👍
Tiger stripes two different sets in one batch of plaster, adding plaster 15 minutes after the original mix. The first mix sets on the wall before the second then you are fighting to get the second set down to the first mix. When you mix a gauge don’t stop until your happy with the consistency and all the set is of the same timing.Scratch on as good as laying in layin as good as first trowel.
Good stuff Bro. Good to see another spread on here that isn't taking shit. Your Obviously a Time Served Spread. Getting fed up seeing so called plasterer's on here that's only had a Trowel in his hand 5 minutes and is teaching people 🤯 Looking forward to ya next vid 💪👊✊👏🙏
Cheers Nev, thanks for the support mate. And thanks for subscribing to the channel, good to have another spread on hand to point things out in the comments 🍻👍
I've encountered these problems over the years and your absolutely spot on great knowledgeable plasterer that can explain it very simply great video kirk
You’ve obviously been watching me try to plaster & thought I’ll put all his issues in 1 vid!! 😂 cheers Kirk. Set up a ‘give us a drink’ page & I’ll send you a pint. Keep the vids coming mate. 👍🏻
🤣🤣 glad it helped mate. Look in the description of this video mate there's a link to buy me a beer. No pressure though pal, I'm just glad to have you as a subscriber 😀👍👍
Wish I'd of seen this video today before I started work but funnily enough I did your tip with cross hatching the brush just by chance tbh and it definitely works, come out alright in the end too 👌 had to put it on a bit thick on this one and as a result played with it too much and used water too early, I wont be making the same mistake next time 🤣🤣🤣 top vid mate 💯🎯
I’ve seen loads of guys putting one thick coat on leaving pick up then hitting it with the sponge float, one coat wonders, what’s your thoughts on this Kirk🤔,great channel and brilliantly explained it’s like being onsite with you. Keep them coming
Kirk thanks you do some very informative vids that explain the knowledge of spreading cheers,as a bricky that’s had a go in the past and found it stressful learning as you go knowing all the tips and tricks is very useful 👍
Kirk, love your passion. I have enjoyed a few videos. Watching someone execute with perfection is great fun. I live in New York USA so I use the subtitles. A couple more and I will pick up on your curious use and pronunciation of the English language. Just teasing you Kirk. Get some longer tee shirts to work in. Some might say that your lower belly and butt crack are TMI. Not me but some might.
I actually enjoyed this video very much....listening to the hop up saying please lose some weight....creaking like a good'un.....beneath you ....Mine does it, but then at 20stone I know why....and most hop ups have a 90 or 100 Kilo weight limit ...and at 127 Kilo's....well... I have to search for 150 Kilo hop ups....and after a time even they give up....ha... I often wonder how many 20 stone plasterers are out there....Ha ...Ha..
3 mill on 1st coat , 1 mill on top coat .. on uneven walls . Basically top coat a touch thinner than 1st coat 👍👍👍 A few 50 meter screed floors sorts a new trowel out too 👍👍great vid pal
Hey, to be honest I just do whatever I feel on the day, most plasterers do ceilings first because they don't want to drop plaster all over finished walls but u don't really drop any so I just decide what I feel like plastering when I turn up
@@Onthetrowel seriously mate ye subs will definitely go up they got to and I know ye not doing it for that ye giving great knowledge and experience out there brilliant stuff m8 keep spreading the tricks of the trade (get it spreading)🤦♂️😂😂😂go on mucka av a good1
Kirk, your videos are absolutely brilliant and crucial tips for someone like me who’s getting into the trade. Can I ask what trowel and hawk size do you use?
I feel your pain when it comes to skimming in tight places mate. I’m built like a proper man, not like those skinny jean wearing, long cable leaving pansy sparks. 6ft and 20 stone 💪🏼
You’re sponging in theory you’re equalising the suction Doesn’t matter if you have a worn trowel etc or not No one knows where tigers come from same as bubbles
Gna have to stop watching you I’m start throwing plasterers out the windows on my jobs 😂 been skimming with easy fill over most the work I’ve come across 😭😭
As a hopeless bungling amateur, I think this video is probably the best video I’ve ever seen.

Thankyou Terry. Means alot pal. I do try and think of how to explain it as simple as possible so I'm glad it's working. 👍👍
I massively agree. I feel like most people who teach don’t actually do the job everyday. You’re doing an excellent job!!
Wish you was around when I was learning plastering 23 years ago.

I believe tiger stripes come from pushing the plaster or to much pressure to soon causing it to ripple
Brilliant video, thank you. I plastered my first wall last week and made almost every mistake you mentioned! Can't wait to go again and try it with all your tips. Thanks!
Well said brilliant video

Another fantastic video buddy
Glad you enjoyed it
Great professional, however. How come ceiling last?
Hey Calvin, I don't really drop any so I can do them before or after mate
@@Onthetrowel ok no worries. 25 years on the trowel. Always learning. Thanks
excellent plastering tips ! if you were thermal boarding external walls what plaster boards would you use on the chimney breasts ? thanks
I like using sound block boards. Only because they are solid. So much more dense than a normal board but it wouldn't hurt to use a standard 12.5 mm
thanks for the advice !
Good health and long life boss
Pucka vid mate, great advice as always 👍🏻
great tips mate
Glad to help conrad 👍

Hi mate do you skim onto your sbr dry or tacky
Dry if you want no suction at all, tacky if your in a rush to get finished
A lot get tigers with laying in with the same gear too early
Trouble I get is lines. every time I overlap, there is a line. Try and smooth it over and then there's another line.
More top tips ....fab....you...las
Glad you like them!
Great vids pal, I've bought you a coffee. 👍
Thanks Pete. Really appreciate it...
Kirk, your videos are absolutely brilliant and crucial tips for someone like me who’s getting into the trade. Can I ask what trowel and hawk size do you use?
Trowel is 14" × 4" carbon steel.
Handboard is whichever I grab off the van that day

Right on
What size trowel do you use ?
14x4 mate carbon
Losen the Grip on the way back too
Use a sponge 🧽
Use a spong float after your first flattern and you will never get Tigger stripes again,
Kirk your the Mutts Nuts 😎👍
Thanks... I think 🤣
Kirk looks stoned to me sometimes haha don’t blame him
I've just got little eyes 🤣
I don't touch the stuff mate, makes me to hungry and to paranoid to open the door to the delivery guy 🤣🤣
