I am 73 and grew up in Alameda . Loved it during the 1960 ‘s . I moved away and could never move back because of the cost . If I could I would move back in a second . I’ve lived in a lot of of cities and Alameda is the best .

The problem I have with this video is that 25 mph is a problem? Alameda is Also great for walking and biking partly because of 25 mph max

Thanks for watching (and commenting), @alan! I hear that especially considering the way Bay Area drivers operate on the freeway systems and city streets outside of Alameda.

I grew up there, and the cons listed don't sound very much like cons to me, the only con now is rents are too damn high.

I find commuting to sf easy. I came from Seattle, don’t drive anymore and find public transportation quite adequate. My con is that people here already have friendship groups established. It is difficult at 70+ to make friends. My other con, mosquitoes…..ugh! nuf said.

I used to live Alameda island for 4yrs and there are some major Cons about it. My landlady was so greedy every year she raised my rent $150, parking is really tough to find, Cost of Living is expensive, and not so military-friendly. Hence, I moved to San Antonio, TX and Im loving life, sex is much greater (choices are abundant and different), people are friendly, cheaper, and lots of things to do. My depression DROPPED significantly since moving to San Antonio. ❤❤❤❤🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

There is a lot of neat stuff about Alameda, but the biggest con is being next to Oakland, and having to drive through that cesspool to get anywhere.

      Park St, not Avenue
You forgot the bay farm island Bridge that connects to Otis drive

Alameda has been dead since the Navy left in 1997.

I can tell you it’s a separate community with a different zip code.

Re: Bay Farm (for the folks who didn't see prior comment) It's still Alameda.

very cold water and the bay is dirty, raw sewage was dumped in the estuary for years, very dirty . I was born there in 1939 and use to play by the estuary and we could see the raw sewage flowing
into the estuary. Low tide use to really smell very bad because of the filth that was dumped into it for decades. Alameda is not a natural Island , was dredged out to make the water way. The only clear water around was going south, Santa Cruz was still very cold ocean water. We had to wear wet suits to dive there and it was nice, San Francisco bay was dirty on the coast but better away from shore, the mud was thick and colors were black and grey, and smelled bad at low tide. It was ruined years ago.
